Angela’s House, located in Hauppauge, is one of those seven nonprofits they oversee. This organization was created to offer families and professionals an agency to call to help medically frail children and their families. Angela’s House has helped to simplify home care options for families by coordinating the extensive array of services needed to support medically frail children at home. “We have worked very hard to create new programs and opportunities for medically frail children,” said founder Bob Policastro, who opened the first home in East Moriches in 2000, and named after his daughter, who suffered severe brain damage during birth. “Over the years we’ve received tremendous support from Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, and have worked in collaboration with IGHL, Independent Group Home Living, to provide these services. We now operate more than 50 homes, multiple day programs and many other supportive programs for individual with intellectual disabilities.” Another affiliate of the Kinexion network is East End Disability Associates (EEDA) in Riverhead, which also provides support and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This organization formed in 1992 by a small group of parents who were active advocates for their children and believed that everyone has the right to

fully participate in quality education, medical, habilitation and recreational services for more than 750 people. Rounding out the seven affiliates of Kinexion is Maryhaven, whose vision is to foster a community whereby people with special needs are safe, accepted and supported. This nonprofit offers a full range of services, including residential, day habilitation and vocational training to promote independence, individuality, integration and social connections. “Our 29 Community Residential homes offer a warm and secure environment where people with special needs can live comfortably,” said Charles Vanek, III, Executive Director of Maryhaven. “Additionally, our Day Habilitation program and our Integrated Business Center provide the platform to attain personal growth and the highest quality of life by teaching daily living skills and offering them community integration opportunities as well as an environment whereby individuals with disabilities work alongside non-disabled workers.” If you would like to learn more about Kinexion or any of the seven non-profits they oversee, please visit www.kinexion. org.

Great River String Musicians Performing At Prestigious Essex House “Strings Attached” a unique Long Island music ensemble based in Great River will be making their New York City debut on Friday, August 12th, 7-8 PM, at the “Kolstein Performance Showcase” at the landmark, prestigious Essex House (160 Central Park South). This performance is free and open-to-the-public, as a community service sponsored by The Kolstein Center (www.kolstein. com). Explains Manny Alvarez, the President of Kolstein: “The mission of our ‘Performance Showcase’ is featuring emerging artists...string musicians who deserve a recognized venue to present their talents. When I discovered ‘Strings Attached’, these musicians have earned this opportunity because of their demonstrated consistent study of their instruments which includes: practice, rehearsals, and many public service performances throughout Suffolk County.”

“Strings Attached” is led by Barbara Llobell, a retired educator from Great River who has studied violin for many years. Barbara had been an instructor of competitive marching bands and winter guards. Barbara also plays guitar and has been studying the cello within the past year. According to Barbara: “’Strings Attached’ is a serendipitous product of the pandemic. It began as a group of four violinists planning to play a garden tour cancelled by the lockdown. It morphed into an ensemble of players sharing music and friendship.” Now, the ensemble welcomes players of all ages and abilities and has grown to eleven musicians. Over the past two years the ensemble has performed locally and is one of the groups that has recorded music for “The BAFFA Beat Goes On”, an online series of videos created during the pandemic to keep BAFFA

(Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts, Sayville, New York) alive. Other members of “Strings Attached” who will be playing at Kolstein on August 12th include: ---Danae Butler, has been playing violin for 25 years. She is a member of the BAFFA Symphony Orchestra and the BASO-Bay Area Symphony Orchestra. She is one of the founding four players and a driving force. ---Andrea Edwards is the President of the BAFFA, Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts. She is a violinist in the

BAFFA orchestra and has performed in the Catskill Symphony Orchestra and the South Shore Symphony Orchestra. ---Ella Feehan has been playing violin for six years. She is one of the four “Strings Attached” founding members. She has also played in a jazz ensemble and her high school string ensemble. ---Rosalie Troisi has a BA in music and is a former member of the Dowling College Symphony Orchestra. She was a former instrumental music teacher.

She did three summer world tours with the LI Youth Orchestra, performing in mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Israel, Africa, Europe, British Columbia and Hawaii. She is presently a violinist in the BAFFA Symphony and performs with her church praise and worship team. ---Florence Hengeveld has been a grateful violist for over 52 years. She has a BA in music and is a Holistic practitioner. She is the principal violist in the BAFFA Symphony. ---Lauren Marinich has been playing the viola since the age of ten. She has played in community orchestras and ensembles most of her adult life. She was the orchestra librarian for the BAFFA Symphony for twenty years. ---Kyla Butler has been a cellist for four years. Playing in this ensemble inspired her to start her own chamber group. ---Rachel Laterra has been

playing cello for seventeen years. She is a member of BAFFA, BASO and “Strings Attached” and is grateful to be involved in all of them. She works as a chemist and considers both music and chemistry her passions. ---Claire Yannacone chose to play the cello as a third grader because everyone else chose violin. She participated in groups through high school, college and beyond including the Sound Symphony, BAFFA, and most recently in the Riverhead High School pit orchestra where she joyfully surprised her science students with her hidden musical talent. ---Kashmere Cooey is the principal flautist of the Bay Area Symphony. She is also a member of the Bay ShoreBrightwaters Symphonic Band. “Strings Attached” is delighted to add a wind player to the ensemble, although Kashmere is talking about taking up the violin.

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Awarded $7,500 Grant To Support Its Veterans And Their Families

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. (www.pal-o-mine. org, Islandia, NY), a private, not for profit organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, announced that it is the recipient of a $7,500 grant from Suffolk County. The grant, which was awarded by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, will be used by Pal-O-Mine to help fund the organization’s programs for veterans and their families. “Suffolk County’s generous grant to PalO-Mine comes at an especially critical time when more veterans are seeking programs to help them better understand their emotional and physical trauma,” said

Pal-O-Mine CEO and Founder Lisa Gatti. “Clinical studies and human experience has demonstrated the special ability of horses to help people heal and grow. As a designated Eagala Military Services Provider, we are able to provide therapy sessions and wellness events to our military community with staff who are credentialed in this international model. Pal-O-Mine has programs for veterans who served in Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan, and in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as activeduty service members. Drowning is the secondleading cause of death in children between ages 1 and 4.[7] • Family Safety Plan. It’s important for everyone in the family to be trained in CPR. • Secure the Pool. Install fencing with self-closing gates at least 4 feet high to separate the pool from house and yard.[8] • Teach Safety. Talk about risky behavior such as diving or swimming in unfamiliar water, and alcohol or drug use while in or near water. • Clear Out Pool Toys. Make sure children aren’t tempted to play unsupervised.

Taylor’s Hope Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2015 in honor of Taylor Ryan, who has been undergoing chemotherapy on and off since 2010 for treatment of a rare cancer, NeuroDegenerative Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. For her parents, it was important to provide support to children who are battling an illness, while raising awareness and funds to help further research. Urban Air Lake Grove, the only indoor adventure park of its kind on Long Island, is kicking off its Summer 2022 extended hours with Friday Night Glow Nights. Continuing every Friday throughout the summer, Urban Air Lake Grove will host Glow Night with a one of kind, glow-in-the-dark experience. Everyone who purchases an attraction pass will also receive a free glow necklace and bracelet, with more available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to wear light and neon-colored clothing that can glow under the blacklights installed around the park, as well as neon/ reflective face paint for maximum fun effect. Seasonal Boat Slips Now Available At Robert Moses State Park East Marina The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that seasonal boat slips at the Robert Moses State Park East Marina are available for rent. Interested boaters can obtain an application to reserve a slip by visiting the Robert Moses State Park Office. The Robert Moses State Park East Marina has forty (40) boat slips, which are available from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. East Marina Seasonal slips will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and will be assigned by Robert Moses State Park. In the event the marina has reached capacity, you

will be placed on the wait list. A seasonal boat slip costs $50 per foot. Slips can accommodate vessels up to 40 feet long with a maximum beam of 14 feet. Each slip has potable water, two cleats, and electric hook-up. The power source is 50 amps (50/125). Boaters must supply their own ropes, adapters, and extension cords. Each slip includes one vehicle parking permit. No overnight visitor parking will be permitted. Boaters who rent a slip during the 2022 season will automatically be renewed for the 2023 season. Robert Moses State Park is located at the south end of the Robert

Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington. The “store” – staffed entirely
