Star status plus its new footing that has proven at Wellington to be as good as there is, the Hampton Classic will solidify its position as one of the most outstanding events in the world.” Ultra-Competition arenas are an example of the most extremely fine-tuned riding surfaces. Utilizing lab measurements, coupled with comparisons in the iEquiTek database, formulae are developed to improve certain aspects of the peak performance. The speeds and heights of CSI 5* competitions in general make for a narrow aperture of what is acceptable, even in the best of conditions. CSI 5* competitions may be held in the rain, yet still demand 5* levels of performance. Bill Hawe, from iEquiTek said, “The Hampton Classic is to be commended for its all-in commitment to advancing the state-of-theart for performance, safety
and horse welfare. This helps change the sport for the better. We are very excited to partner with the Hampton Classic on this project.” The Grand Prix Ring is the centerpiece of the Classic’s six show rings. Longines is the Official Timekeeper for the Hampton Classic which will also be adding new divisions such as Low Adult and Children’s Jumpers, Low Adult and Children’s Hunters and 3’6” High Performance Hunters. This will allow some exhibitors who have never previously had the chance to ride at the Hampton Classic to do so. More details on this year’s schedule will be forthcoming soon. Hampton Classic Horse Show To Host FEI CSI 5* And 2* Competitions
The Hampton Classic Horse Show, one of the country’s most prestigious hunter-jumper horse shows, will unveil new state-of-the-art all-weather footing in its Grand Prix Ring and a new schedule with FEI CSI 5* and 2* competitions when it returns for its 46th edition, August 28-September 4. The new CSI 5* status means an increase in prize money to more than $1 million, with $410,000 for the Classic’s featured Hampton Classic Grand Prix on Sunday, September 4. New all-weather footing in the Grand Prix Ring will allow for an expanded schedule featuring the 5* and 2* as well as some new divisions. “We are truly excited about hosting a CSI 5* and having the opportunity to expand our schedule,” said Shanette Barth Cohen, the Classic’s Executive Director. “Our new allweather footing enables us

from the high schools, community colleges, and the Long Island Community Foundation, chose the students who will be awarded scholarships this year. In addition to the financial scholarships for this year’s graduating seniors, the Northwell Scholars program will also collaborate with these school districts to support 40 students beginning in the ninth grade through graduation from high school and on to college. The goal is to expand the program to 330 students by 2026. Students will be provided with services to support continued growth and development, that may include but not be limited to mentorship, college preparation, career advisement, and internship and shadowing opportunities. The program will address education, health and wellness and social inequities prevalent in these communities and worsened by the pandemic with the ultimate goal of providing a pathway to employment after graduation. Throughout the program, Northwell will mentor students about all the
employment opportunities available at a health system, including clinical careers, healthcare administration, information technology, operational support, and care coordination. By the time they become high school seniors, the scholars will be eligible to receive scholarships – up to $19,000 – to obtain a twoyear associate degree or certificate program. “Being raised in a household that is less fortunate economically is highly stressful for young people,” said Debbie SalasLopez, MD, MPH, senior vice president of community and population health at Northwell. “We know that the pandemic has resulted in adding significant stress to economically disadvantaged communities of color. This can lead to lower educational attainment, mental health issues and higher prevalence of chronic conditions. We must break this cycle and improve the odds for children growing up in these areas. When we support education, we improve public health, life expectancy and promote health equity. It is our belief that every student should
be able to achieve their educational and career goals without feeling defeated by financial insecurity. We owe this to our children.” Northwell’s commitment to students of all ages already runs deep in the communities it serves. Beginning at the elementary school level, through programing offered by Cohen Children’s Medical Center, the health system has provided children at participating school districts with medical expertise and education on healthy lifestyles and behaviors. Northwell also awards scholarships as part of its Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration, enrolls more than 1,500 high schoolers in its annual science, technology, engineering and math program known as the SPARK Challenge, provides medical career information every year to high school students, and supports students from underserved communities through its Medical Scholars Pipeline program at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

The Head Injury Association also offers support and services to help navigate the eligibility process and throughout the application phase to assist in accessing supports and services offered through Head Injury Association. It also offers employment services, with Adult Career and Continuing Education ServicesVocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) to achieve and maintain employment, and to support independent living through training, education, rehabilitation and career development. Another Kinexion affiliate organization is the Center for Developmental Disabilities, located in Woodbury. “We help children and adults overcome
barriers to living, working, learning and enjoying recreational opportunities in the community of their choice,” says Jay Silverstein, Ph.D., Executive Director of The Center. “We are dedicated to the achievement of excellence and innovation within a community based upon respect, kindness and open communication.” The center offers a variety of diverse programs include a Children’s Day Program, which operates 12 months a year and serving children ages 5-21 who have an educational classification of Autism, Intellectual Disability or Multiple Disabilities. The classroom curriculum covers academic subjects such as English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, while also fostering the development of each student’s daily living skills and social skills. Computer and technology education are a part of each classroom’s weekly schedule. The Center also launched the “Support with Dignity” initiative to enhance opportunities for individuals to live with greater independence within their communities. This initiative embraces three pillars: Respectful Interactions, Promoting Independence and fostering Purposeful, Person-Centered Activities. Through a collective commitment to best practices in the field, the Center will advance the hopes and dreams of the individuals it serves. The Long Island Museum Awarded Grant From Alzheimer’s Foundation Of America

Bi-lingual health insurance enrollers who specialize in assisting adults and children who are blind or disabled or anyone over the age of 65 are just a phone call away. The assistance, provided by the not-forprofit agency NassauSuffolk Hospital Council

Created in 2011, this innovative program takes individuals living with dementia and their care partners on guided tours of the museum’s collection of art, historical objects, and seasonal exhibits. Additionally, the program offers hands-on art workshops which afford opportunities for creative expression, with all needed materials provided for free.
All programs are led by museum educators and designed to be engaging and cognitively stimulating. Programming is currently offered virtually through Zoom and as a hybrid, inperson/virtual option. Since its inception, the program served more than 3,200 individuals, according to the Museum. In April 2022, the Museum hosted its first hybrid In the Moment program with the Making Memories at the Movies event. Participants gathered in the museum’s event space to see clips of films accompanied by facilitated discussions by licensed master social worker Marcy Rhodes, to help prompt memories and spark conversation. Participants also joined Zoom from home, assisted living and senior facilities to partake in this wonderful program. AFA is able to provide vital services, like this grant, through the generosity of individual contributions, sponsorships and fundraising activities.
