Legislator Steven J. Flotteron made a very special day possible for the Warrior Ranch in

Calverton. He brought together more than 140 Boy Scouts from 24 troops across Suffolk County

who transformed the property. They completed many tasks that will help the Ranch open

for spring and summer horse therapy sessions for Veterans and First Responders. Scouts of all ages worked together clearing brush and debris on 3.5 acres of the 6 acre property. Their hard work prepares the land to be graded for a future outdoor arena, round pen and obstacle course for the horses. The young volunteers also pulled nails from fence posts and painted an outside cellar door red. They have another clean-up day planned for April. Legislator Flotteron who serves on the Sagtikos District of the Boy Scouts of America’s Suffolk County Council, said, "This is an inspirational and heartwarming day. Everybody came out for the community. We always want to see people helping people."

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Contractors For Kids is local to the core. They know our Island well and they love to help locals. Their office is

located in Holbrook and they have no plans of going anywhere. The pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed aﬂoat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others ﬁnancially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Donations are so important to CFK, especially being that they receive no grant money. They would like to thank all thsoe who attended their Scavenger Hunt fundraising event on April 10th. Their next fundraising event will be a golf outing on June 14th, stay tuned for more information! Jacob Arens, East Islip, New York, successfully completed his Eagle Board of Review on June 11, 2020, officially making him the 92nd Eagle Scout of Troop 205 of Great River, East Islip, and Islip Terrace, NY. Jacob’s Eagle Court of Honor will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, starting at 11:00AM in the Fellowship Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church, 111 Nassau Avenue, Islip, NY. Any New York State COVID related safety rules in effect at that time such as guest limits and masks will be implemented for the ceremony. Jacob is a member of Troop 205, sponsored by the Great River Fire Department, under the direction of Scoutmaster Mark Businski. On his “Road to Eagle,” Jacob has served Troop 205 as Senior Patrol Leader for five terms, Chaplain’s Aide, Historian, and Troop Guide – working with his younger Scouts on their Rank Advancements. To become an Eagle Scout, a Scout must earn 21 merit badges, of which 13 are specifically Eagle required, progress through six rank advancements – from Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, then Eagle, and also plan, develop, and implement a major service project for the community. Jacob has actually earned 32 merit badges. The Service Project that Jacob developed, planned, and implemented with the assistance of his immediate and extended family members due to COVID restrictions, was planning, purchasing, and installing 200 feet of white, attractive two-rail, western style fence at his home Church – Trinity Lutheran – along Union Blvd, Islip, NY. Jacob has also earned the following awards and achievement in Scouts: Webelos Arrow of Light, Firem’n Chit, Tot’in Chit,

Jacob recently said this: “Ever since I was young, I was encouraged to become a Boy Scout and help my community. I was taught about being kind in every situation and create new friends every day.” Jacob is currently a senior at East Islip High School, East Islip, NY, where he has achieved Honor Roll status in each and every quarter since the 9th Grade. Jacob is a three–year member and Captain of his high school Mock Trial Team, where he has competed in the Empire World Tournament from 2017 to the present, where his team competed with teams from 37 states and eight countries across the world. Jacob attended the EDNY Justice Institute Summer Program in 2018, where his team placed “first” in the competition. Jacob also participated in the Harvard Mock Trial Program in 2018. The First Congregational Church of Bay Shore (BSFCC), the Bay Shore Lions Club (BSLC) and the Bay Shore Classroom Teachers’ Association (BSCTA) celebrated a successful collaboration in support of the community’s newest food pantry Saturday, March 20th. Participants gathered in BSFCC’s sanctuary, Bay Shore’s oldest Church which was first organized in 1853 and now located at 1680 Union Boulevard. Fran Beringer, President of BSLC and Mike Krieger, President of the BSCTA presented checks totaling $2,250 to BSFCC’s Reverend Anthony Vito Colangelo and Lety Anez, BSFCC’s Community Outreach Director. In addition, four full carloads of food donations were collected from seven schools represented by BSCTA. To date, close to $4,000 has been raised locally to fund the BSFCC, including generous donations from the Jacob Marley Foundation

and other community members. The BSFCC began its food pantry ministry with a “Love Lunch” Grab for Pre-K through 5th grade children and is now expanding to serve the increased demand for food from local families. Reverend Colangelo says, “Food insecurity is a persistent problem that threatens the well-being of many Bay Shore children, youth and families. We share a common vision to address this issue. The bottom line is that you are helping us help many people who are hungry. It’s practical, grass-roots compassion in action.” BSLC President Fran Beringer agreed, saying, “Bay Shore Lions are 78 local people – your neighbors and friends – who are committed to community service. This is our 90th Anniversary year and for the past seven years, we’ve supported five local food pantries each with a $2,000 contribution annually. We recognize the additional hardship

that has come with the COVID-19 pandemic and are pleased to extend our outreach and welcome the BSFCC to our fold.” According to Mike Krieger, President BSCTA, “We strive to provide Bay Shore and Brightwaters students with highquality education, and opportunities to get involved in community service. We’re so proud of the way our students and teachers have stepped up and for their enthusiastic response to the call for food and funds for this new food pantry.” In addition to presentations from each of these organizations, local Suffolk County and Islip Town officials participated. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park will return this Memorial Day weekend after a one-year absence. The outdoor show, sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, features a range of military and civilian aerial performers. This year’s show will be a ticketed event, with reduced capacity and social distancing measures in place to ensure a safe return of the patriotic Long Island beachfront tradition. “As we continue to see progress in our fight against COVID and cautiously reopen our state, we can look forward to enjoying more and more outdoor adventures this summer - including the annual Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park,” Governor Cuomo said. “With safety measures in place, New Yorkers and visitors can get back to enjoying all that Jones Beach and Long Island State Parks have to offer, and this annual festival is a great way to get outdoors and support the regional Long Island economy.” The Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach, one of the most popular events on Long Island, was canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Its return this year brings back a Memorial Day weekend tradition that celebrates the beginning of summer at Long Island’s beaches, and honors military families and those who serve our country. Shore and Brentwood. The LIHBA has been offering a series of free, educational workshops called “Know Your Rights,” which are accessible via Facebook Live and on the association’s website.
