The Twilight Wish Foundation www.twilightwish.org

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-proﬁt organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Patricia, who recently had her wish granted. You could be next! Patricia Bachmore is a 75 year old resident of Amityville. She wished for new furniture and thanks to the Long Island chapter of this national nonproﬁt, her wish was granted! Patricia has fostered and socialized rescue kittens and cats for years. Understandably, that took a toll on her furniture. Although the furniture was old and falling apart, she could not afford to replace it on her own because of her limited income. In December of 2020, The Twilight Wish Foundation granted her with a new sofa and kitchen chairs, which she wished for. In addition to her work with rescue organizations, Patricia is part of the Amityville neighborhood watch program and also works with the Town

of Babylon’s 311 citizens complaint unit. She also assists other senior citizens in her mobile home park with grocery shopping and other errands. THANK YOU PATRICIA FOR ALL OF YOUR SELFLESS EFFORTS! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate ﬁnancial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Please note, when going to grant a wish, this foundation takes all the necessary safety precautions. taxes. Volunteers from NYS will guide registrants step-by-step to prepare and e-file Federal and NYS income tax returns. For more information, visit lovebethpage.com/vita. “It was very important to us that qualifying taxpayers be able to access free tax filing services during the pandemic,” said Rob Suarez, Assistant Vice President, Bethpage. “Since that decision was made, we worked to develop a virtual VITA program for our tax preparers to work directly with tax payers to seamlessly handle the filings. We’ve also been working closely with the IRS to head up an education program to help other organizations across Long Island go online as well. While most continue to struggle with COVID concerns, safety is our number one priority.” Bethpage has secured over 50 trained volunteers from Adelphi University, Long Island University, Molloy College, and New York Institute of Technology, who will work one-on-one virtually with tax payers to prepare the returns. Bethpage VITA volunteers will also educate eligible working families about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) while preparing tax returns. The EITC is an antipoverty program available to four out of five eligible Long Island households. VITA volunteers will work with taxpayers to ensure that eligible families are aware of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which could bring up to $6,557 into the hands of deserving Long Island families. Credit amounts are based on income levels, filing status and other factors. Eligible households can claim up to three years back of Earned Income Tax Credits. Bethpage has also

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library, a Special District Meeting of the qualified voters of Bay Shore Union Free School District, Bay Shore, New York (“School District”), will be held at the Bay ShoreBrightwaters Public Library located at 1 South Country Road, Brightwaters, New York on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., prevailing time, and as much longer as may be necessary to enable the voters then present to cast their ballots for the purpose of voting upon the following items: 1) To elect one (1) Library Trustee to the Bay ShoreBrightwaters Public Library Board of Trustees, for a five year term, commencing July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2026, as a result of the expiration of the term of office presently held by Frances Bell. 2) To adopt the annual Library District Budget for the 2021/2022 fiscal year, and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the Library District; FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of Library Trustee must be filed in the office of the School District Clerk, 75 West Perkal Street, Bay Shore, New York, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., not later than March 8, 2021. The scouts would like to thank Bishop Itty, the Vestry of St Peters by the Sea and the entire congregation for hosting this service and the warm welcome. Scouts assisted with the readings and we were provided an opportunity to publicly recognise one of our senior scouts who earned the rank of Eagle Scout in December after completing his service project during the pandemic. New York Blood Center (NYBC) announces a blood shortage in the region, one year after New York was the epicenter of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations like high schools, colleges, and offices. It has been one

year since these groups had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19 and few have been able to resume these lifesaving events. NYBC currently has a 4 day supply of blood, which is well below what is needed by area hospitals. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500

donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Donors with type O and type B blood are especially needed as NYBC currently has a 1-2 day supply of these blood types. “With thousands of New Yorkers getting
