Throughout the year, teams of PSEG Long Island employees visit the Interfaith Nutrition Network’s (INN) Mary Brennan Soup Kitchen in Hempstead to lend a helping hand in the community. At least once a month, employees provide meals, food, clothing and toiletries to the INN’s guests, and help out with whatever else is needed at the soup kitchen. Responsibilities include preparing and serving hot, nutritious meals to guests in the

soup kitchen, and stacking non-perishable food items in the INN’s Choice Pantry, where guests receive free food items to provide their families with weekend meals. Other volunteer opportunities include working in the walk-through thrift shop, helping guests select donated clothing, kitchen items, and other household essentials free of judgment and free of charge. Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.

They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event. This year’s 5K event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Hofstra University, where over 1000 individuals will run, volunteer or spectate to celebrate! Their upcoming spring season will begin the week of March 16th and is shaping up to be their largest season yet! This organization truly makes a difference!
