Life’s WORC Introduces Planned Giving Program Life’s WORC (www. lifesworc.org), a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism through its residential, community and trust services, now celebrating 50 years in operation, is starting off the new year with a new Planned Giving Program. A complementary program to the organization’s already existing trust and financial services, the Life’s WORC Planned Giving Program will enable donors to create a lasting legacy that benefits Life’s WORC and those it

serves, while also giving donors significant financial benefits. According to Life’s WORC’s CEO Janet Koch, “Our donors are vital to our ability to fulfill our mission. Providing another way that enables them to help those we serve and address their financial goals prompted us to develop the Planned Giving Program. It is a natural extension of our other financial services and will enable Life’s WORC to be a better resource to both individuals with disabilities and their families, as well as a broader cross-section of the community.”

The Life’s WORC Planned Giving Program offers donors various options. These include: gifts that use appreciated assets as a substitute for cash, gifts that return income or other financial benefits to the donor in return for his/ her contribution, and gifts payable upon the donor’s demise through his/her estate planning. Life’s WORC Board Member Ron Aghassi, a single parent of a 20-year old special needs child who lives in a Life’s WORC home noted, “When I made the decision to place my son, Jacob, in

a Life’s WORC home, I felt like a great fear was released. As a single parent, even though I am not old and am in good health, I always worried what would happen to Jacob if something happened to me. Thanks to Life’s WORC, I no longer have that fear. When I made the decision to make a planned gift to Life’s WORC, and after consulting with my financial advisor, we chose the planned giving option that worked best for me. Life’s WORC Introduces Planned Giving Program Continued From 6 deplorable conditions that existed within the then largest institution in the nation serving children with developmental disabilities. Rivera first learned about these conditions from Life’s WORC founder Victoria Schneps Yunis. Her daughter, Lara, diagnosed at an early age with severe brain damage, was a resident at Willowbrook. When cuts in state funding caused the institution to fall into extensive disrepair, Schneps, along with other concerned individuals,

picketed to fight for the rights of Willowbrook’s more than 5,000 residents. Rivera’s report, which earned him a Peabody Award, ultimately forced the closing of Willowbrook. Schneps Yunis started Life’s WORC and opened its first home in Little Neck, Queens. Its first residents were former Willowbrook residents. Today, Life’s WORC provides beautiful homes located across the region, from Nassau and Suffolk to Queens and Manhattan, in addition to community services, financial and trust

FCA envisions a Long Island where a legacy of optimal health, educational success and economic security passes from one generation to the next; each year it serves 30,000 individuals and families in Suffolk and Nassau counties. Its mission strives to make our island a better place for all of us to live, work and raise a family. FCA runs numerous Children’s Mental Health and Wellness Services programs to help children with mental and/or behavioral health issues and their families, regardless of insurance status and provides Health Home Care Management for recipients of Medicaid in both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Services are provided in the home, school and/or other community setting. FCA services utilize a “family-driven” process to create an individualized plan of service for each child and provides access to appropriate services to improve health outcomes and prevent hospitalizations. Family Center Nassau: Family Support services for Nassau residents provided by Family Peer Advocates (FPA) enhance the capacity of families to care for their children who have or are at risk of developing a mental health diagnosis. Youth & Family Integration (YFI): Integrated Mental Health Workers coordinate care for Suffolk County residents including Skill Building and Youth Peer Advocacy for children and Family Peer Support for parents/guardians. Youth Advocacy services are designed to empower youth through a connection with someone who understands what it is like to receive services.

On Saturday January 22, 2022, members of Scouts BSA Troop 43, charted by P.M. – Slavery & the AMVETS Post 76 of Bay John Jay Family: A Seven Shore, joined many other Generation Story via BSA Scouting units and Zoom volunteers from across February 15th at 7:00 P.M. Long Island, to assist with – Virtual Author Lecture the 2021 Wreaths Across – The Underground America clean up event Railroad on Long Island at Calverton National via Zoom Cemetery. The Scouts and February 17th at 7:00 Scouters are honored to P.M. – Genealogy 101: participate in this very Researching Ancestors of important event. The idea Color via Zoom behind Wreaths Across February 24th at 7:00 P.M. America is that as we place – Black History Month Trivia Night via Zoom
