Wing Students Continue Tradition Of Helping

WING STUDENTS CONTINUE TRADITION OF HELPING - Justin Lollo’s class at Islip’s Wing Elementary School recently participated in a community service event, assembling 181 ham sandwiches for donation to Bethany House at St. Patrick’s Church in Bay Shore. This is the fifth year that Lollo’s class has carried on the tradition of learning about making sandwiches for a cause. Grillo’s Deli in Islip contributed by donating all of the Boar’s Head deluxe ham for this class project. “It is a wonderful way for our young students to learn about helping others during the season of giving,” Principal Catherine Glaser said. Ethical Friends of Children, a free shop for Long Island children in need is prepared for cold weather. Volunteers sorted through recently donated clothing. The program has put out a call for children’s clothing for girls, sizes two to size 8; boys clothing 0 to 6 months and sizes 7-8-9. Shoes are always welcome. This free outreach program, run and supported by the Ethical

Humanist Society of Long Island in Garden City since 1985, assists more than 2500 children and their families each year by providing them with clothing, backpacks for school and infant furniture. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies. “This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.” In the coming months, Senior Advocates will be visiting the following locations in the Town of Islip: • Bay Shore Library, 1 S.
