BSA SCOUTS ASSIST SEATUCK ENVIRONMENTAL ASSOC. - On Saturday, October 17, BSA Scouts from Troops T43-B, T43-G, T153, T327 & T205, assisted with other volunteers from Seatuck, First Baptist Church of Bay Shore and others to continue the Penataquit Creek Restoration project. While following strict Covid-19 social distancing guidelines, they were able to plant over 60 shrubs and small trees. CAR WASH FOOD DRIVE - Pictured are a few of the many scouts from Troop 43 that held a Car Wash Food Drive on Saturday, October 24, 2020 to assist the Food Pantry at St. Peters by the Sea. The scouts are members of Scouts BSA Troops 43-B and 43-G both chartered by AMVETS POST 76 of Bay Shore. The youth followed all safety protocols, along with local, state and BSA social distancing policies. They asked the drivers attending the car wash to bring a non perishable donation. On this day they collected several boxes of supplies that were donated to the pantry to assist those in need in the Bay Shore community. The scouts would like to thank all the drivers that visited and supported the event so generously. Troop 43 is Celebrating 60 continuous years of Scouting in the Bay Shore / Brightwaters area and the scouts are proud to be able to assist with community service and continue the BSA program in safe ways during this time. #Proud2BeTroop43 #ScoutingAtHome. Islip. Tables will be set up in front of the church doors which face St. Mark’s Lane, Islip. The event is run entirely by volunteers. People don’t even need to get out of their cars if they don’t wish to; they can pop the trunk and volunteers will collect the donations. Masks and social distancing are required, however, if they do choose to come out of their cars. All food will be donated to God’s Provisions, Inc., an organization that distributes to the food pantries throughout Suffolk County including Amityville, The Islips, Bay Shore, Patchogue, Quogue, Huntington Station, Dix Hills and more. St. Mark’s has a 20 years-plus relationship with them. The organization is run by Dana Jahn. Islip Rotary, whose motto is, “Service Above Self,” is a global network of 1.2 million business and other leaders, as well as neighbors and friends to see a world where people unite and take action. They work to create lasting change across the globe and in local communities. The food drive is collecting non-perishable items, such as pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, mac and cheese, juice boxes, crackers, cookies, salt, pepper, cake/brownie mixes, canned tuna and chicken, stuffing mix, soup, canned gravy, tomato sauce, condensed milk, pudding (boxed, not prepared) jello, apple sauce, canned vegetables and fruit, kidfriendly treats, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, toiletries, pet food, baby products, etc. Please don’t donate anything that can spoil. Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti.

Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances. They also offer group programs, individual lessons, c o r p o r a t e workshops and a program specifically designed for military members.

Lisa’s mother was a special education teacher and her father worked for a book publishing company. She was greatly influenced by both of their professions. She grew up knowing she loved horses, but really wanted to become a teacher and work with children in need. Her father would often send her books while she was away at college, and one day she received a book titled Palomino, by Danielle Steel. As she read through the pages, she became inspired by what was written: a ranch that was formed to help people through equine therapy. From that point on, she was certain that was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Through persistence, hard work and a passion to serve others, Lisa Gatti opened Pal-O-Mine Equestrian in 1995 as a 501C(3) organization.

Pal-O-Mine is located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week, and they continue to grow today! This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-theart footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. They help an unbelievable amount of people and their work is truly heartwarming. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome,

While Memorial Day honors fallen soldiers and service people, Veteran’s Day, which takes place each November, is an opportunity to commemorate the efforts of all who have been in the armed forces, with a special emphasis on living veterans. While people are encouraged to thank veterans throughout the year, Veteran’s Day is a particularly poignant time to show your appreciation for the men and women of the military. Veteran’s Day takes place on November 11 and marks an important moment in history. On November 11, 1918, World War I, known at the time as “The Great War,” unofficially ended when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, took place between Germany and the Allied nations on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. World War I ended

on paper when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919. In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Armistice Day became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. However, after subsequent wars, including World War II and the Korean War, veterans’ service organizations lobbied for Armistice Day to be revised so it would be more inclusive of all veterans. On June 1, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation to strike the word “Armistice” from the holiday’s name in favor of “Veterans.” Since then, November 11 has been known as “Veterans Day” and has honored veterans of all wars. In 1975, President Gerald Ford signed legislation to return the observation of Veterans Day to November 11 beginning in 1978. Should the day fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the federal government observes the holiday on the previous Friday or following Monday, respectively, according to History.com. The United States isn’t the only country to celebrate its veterans. Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and France also commemorate the veterans of World War I and II on or near November 11 as Remembrance Day or Remembrance Sunday.
