Peter Daniele of Lindenhurst was named Firefighter of the Year for Suffolk County Legislator R.J. Renna’s 14th Legislative District during the annual Volunteer Firefighter Recognition Ceremony on Sept. 16. A member of the West Babylon Fire Department for 15 years, Daniele was honored for rescuing an unresponsive victim from a burning home in January 2025. He will receive the Suffolk County Vocational Education and Extension Board Class 1 Medal later this year.

Operating in an atmosphere immediately dangerous to life and health, without firefighting gear or respiratory protection, he removed the victim from the structure. The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition. On Wednesday, September 16, the Suffolk County Legislature gathered for the annual Volunteer Firefighter Recognition Ceremony in the Rose Y. Caracappa Auditorium of the William H. Rogers Legislature Building. Legislator Renna was proud to select Peter Daniele as the Firefighter of the Year for the 14th Legislative District! On the night of January 9, 2025, Peter’s knowledge and training were put to the test when he detected an odor of burning consistent with a structure fire while driving home. He investigated the odor and subsequently discovered a working residential structure fire. As he arrived on scene, Peter received reports that the elderly residents of the home may still be inside the dwelling. Without hesitation, Peter immediately entered the home, where he encountered

The Town of Babylon marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, with its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, at the Town of Babylon 9/11 Hometown Memorial on Ocean Parkway. The ceremony also included the unveiling of the Town’s new Post-9/11 Memorial honoring residents who became ill or died as a

result of their service and exposure in the aftermath of the attacks. Fourteen names were inscribed on the new memorial at its dedication. The memorial joins the Hometown Memorial, which honors Babylon residents who were killed on September 11, 2001. The new memorial had remained covered since its installation, and the families
