Family-Friendly Activities For Fall Fall is a welcome season for many people. The cooler temperatures and still-ample sunlight mean there is plenty of time to enjoy the great outdoors even if summer has ended. Fall activities dot the calendar, with several different options for individuals and families to get involved. Fall is a great time to do just that with these activities. • Apple-picking: Few things are more refreshing than taking a bite out of an apple fresh off the tree. Orchards are bursting with apples this time of year, and an afternoon spent picking apples is a great way to spend time together.

•L eaf treasure hunt: Everyone can head outdoors with a bag or basket to gather leaves. Look for the brightest color or the crunchiest leaf that can be found. The leaves can be pressed between wax paper to save them. • Fall festivals: Outdoor festivals are ideal for families because they tend to feature crafts, food, music, and activities. • Fall baking: Turn those plucked apples into pies or muffins, or use pumpkin and cinnamon to fill a home with delicious seasonal smells. Kids can help stir, pour and sprinkle ingredients. • Corn maze: Corn mazes may be set up adjacent to pumpkin patches, so the family can pick out

the perfect pumpkin to carve and then try to navigate the maze. • Spooky walk: Halloween lands right in the heart of fall.

14 Long Island Women Honored At Rhoads’ Women Of Distinction Ceremony Fourteen outstanding women from across the 5th Senate District were honored for their service, leadership, and contributions to their communities at New York State Senator Steven Rhoads’ 4th Annual Women of Distinction Ceremony on Thursday, September 17, at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library. As a fierce advocate for women and families, Senator Rhoads established the annual ceremony to shine a spotlight on the women whose service, leadership, and dedication help strengthen communities throughout Nassau County. The event celebrates women who have made a meaningful difference through their professional accomplishments, volunteerism, advocacy, and commitment to helping others. “Every year, this ceremony reminds me of

the incredible people who make our communities so special,” said Senator Steve Rhoads. “These 14 women have each made a lasting impact in their own unique way, and it was a privilege to recognize them and thank them for all they have done. Their stories of service, perseverance, leadership, and compassion are exactly the kind of examples we want our young people to see. I hope this evening not only celebrated their accomplishments, but inspired the next generation to step forward and make a difference in their own communities.” The evening opened with a prayer from Reverend and Senior Pastor Iwy PatelYatri and Hispanic Ministry Pastor Rosa Larios of Hicksville United Methodist Church, setting a tone of reflection and gratitude for the celebration ahead.
