Caruso holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest skateboard crossing of the United States. He first set the record in 2023, skating about 3,162 miles from Venice Beach, California to Virginia Beach in 57 days. This June, he broke his own record, skating from Venice Beach to Jacksonville, Florida in 39 days. He used both trips to raise money for

Natural High, a nonprofit that helps young people find healthy passions. “Twenty years ago, a group of local teenagers came to Town Hall and asked for a place to skate, and we built it,” said Supervisor Schaffer. “Now one of those teenagers has helped us build its replacement. That’s what happens when young people get involved in their community. This park will serve skaters at Tanner Park for decades to come.” “Chad has been fighting for this skatepark since he was a teenager, and his fingerprints are on every part of it,” said Deputy Supervisor Martinez. “Our skaters told us what they needed, and we listened. The old ramps couldn’t stand up to the elements at the water’s edge. This park is built to handle salt air, heavy use and years of skating. It gives kids and adults a safe, first-class place to ride right here in their own town.” “I helped petition for a skatepark here over twenty years ago, and I’ve seen firsthand how much it’s meant to so many people, myself included,” said Caruso. “I’m excited to see this new park bring fresh energy to the local skate community and give the next generation those same experiences.”

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee, joined Town officials, worldrecord skateboarder Chad Caruso and local skaters on Wednesday, September 23 to cut the ribbon on the new skatepark at Tanner Park in Copiague. The new pouredconcrete park replaces the prefabricated ramps that had worn down over the years from the waterfront location and salt air. The replacement was designed by Spohn Ranch, a California-based skatepark design firm, in close collaboration with Caruso, who helped lead the effort to replace the park and shape its design. Other local skaters also provided input. Laser Industries, Inc. built the park. For Caruso, the project brings his history with the park full circle. As a teenager in 2004, he and his friends petitioned the Town to create the original Tanner Park skatepark, and he has hosted the annual Tanner Skate Jam there every September for years.

Tanger Outlets Deer Park and Tanger Outlets Riverhead announced that its annual TangerKids Grants Program will return for the 2026/27 academic year, continuing its commitment to supporting local education and providing resources that help students thrive. Educators on Long Island are encouraged to apply for funding at grants. tanger.com through Oct. 18. The TangerKids Grants Program gives teachers and education leaders across the country the opportunity to identify classroom and school needs and request funding for programs that support student success. Grants may be used for initiatives that enhance learning environments, improve accessibility, address student needs and provide additional resources for schools

and classrooms. Faculty members at public and private schools serving pre-K through grade 12 students are eligible to apply. For 30 years, Tanger has invested in education by providing more than $3.9 million in grants to schools and educational programs across the communities it serves through 38 outlet centers and four open-air lifestyle centers. In 2025, TangerKids Grants awarded an estimated $200,000 to initiatives throughout the U.S. and Canada, with a focus on supporting inclusive classroom environments, underserved schools and programs that address evolving student needs. Grant winners for 2026 in each community will be announced and celebrated during the center’s annual TangerKids Day in January 2027.

Town of Babylon Marks 25th Anniversary of September 11th

The Town of Babylon marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, with its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, at the Town of Babylon 9/11 Hometown Memorial on Ocean Parkway. The ceremony also included the unveiling of the Town’s new Post-9/11 Memorial honoring residents who became ill or died as a

result of their service and exposure in the aftermath of the attacks. Fourteen names were inscribed on the new memorial at its dedication. The memorial joins the Hometown Memorial, which honors Babylon residents who were killed on September 11, 2001. The new memorial had remained covered since its installation, and the families

of the 14 honorees had not seen it before the ceremony. During the program, the covering was removed, allowing the families to see their loved ones’ names together for the first time. “September 11th did not end when that day was

over,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “For too many families in our community, the years that followed brought illness, loss, and a sacrifice that has gone unmarked for far too long.” The memorial was created through the efforts

of the Town Board, the Post9/11 Memorial Committee and the Town of Babylon Chiefs Association, working alongside the families of those honored. The ceremony was open to the public and provided residents with an

opportunity to remember those lost on September 11 and those whose lives were affected in the years that followed. The Town intended the memorial to serve as a lasting place of reflection for families and the community for generations to come.

Pretty soon, millions of people who needed support during a tough time in their lives will ﬁnd it. Hopefully, they can pay it forward when they have the means to do so. Gratitude causes ripples, and ripples cause change. Let’s create some ripples this month for people who can use our help.
