The Town of Babylon marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, with its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, at the Town of Babylon 9/11 Hometown Memorial on Ocean Parkway. The ceremony also included the unveiling of the Town’s new Post-9/11 Memorial honoring residents who became ill or died as a

result of their service and exposure in the aftermath of the attacks. Fourteen names were inscribed on the new memorial at its dedication. The memorial joins the Hometown Memorial, which honors Babylon residents who were killed on September 11, 2001. The new memorial had remained covered since its installation, and the families

of the 14 honorees had not seen it before the ceremony. During the program, the covering was removed, allowing the families to see their loved ones’ names together for the first time. “September 11th did not end when that day was

over,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “For too many families in our community, the years that followed brought illness, loss, and a sacrifice that has gone unmarked for far too long.” The memorial was created through the efforts

of the Town Board, the Post9/11 Memorial Committee and the Town of Babylon Chiefs Association, working alongside the families of those honored. The ceremony was open to the public and provided residents with an

opportunity to remember those lost on September 11 and those whose lives were affected in the years that followed. The Town intended the memorial to serve as a lasting place of reflection for families and the community for generations to come.

The flip affects almost every family and every local business, and it happens every year. It begs the question: why do so many of us resist it, as if we could stop time or our calendars? 2026 Fred Golofaro Memorial Montauk Classic Surf Fishing Tournament Attention all anglers! The 2026 Fred Golofaro Memorial Montauk Classic Bluefish & Striped Bass Surf Fishing Tournament will begin at Noon, Friday, October 2, 2026, and continue until Noon, Sunday, October 4, 2026. Fish must be landed from the beach, surf, jetty, bank or pier beginning at the western most tip of Napeague State Park and encompassing all points east. All areas must be accessible on foot or by wading. Swimming is prohibited. Hither Hills State Park in Montauk will be the official weigh in and photo verification station for the tournament. This year, the Striped Bass category will be a Catch-Photo-Release format. Prizes will be awarded to the three largest bluefish and the three longest released striped bass. New York State minimum qualifying weight

and size limits will be in effect. Only one prize per person, per species, will be awarded A drawing for raffle prizes will be held at the award ceremony on Sunday at 12:30pm at the lower lot of Montauk Point State Park.
