Deer Park Community Unites To Honor September 11 Victims And Fallen First Responders Members of the Deer Park community, local elected officials, firefighters, and residents gathered to honor the lives lost during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and remember the rescue and recovery workers who later died from illnesses connected to their work at Ground Zero. The solemn tribute served as a reminder of the extraordinary courage and sacrifice displayed by first responders and ordinary Americans during one of the darkest chapters in the nation’s history.

colleagues in government as we paid tribute to those murdered on September 11, 2001, and those who later lost their lives to illnesses contracted while working at Ground Zero,” McSweeney said. “As a firefighter, I understand the courage and dedication it takes to answer

the call during someone’s darkest hour. The men and women who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero helped get America back on her feet, and their sacrifice must never be forgotten.” McSweeney added that the tribute was also a reminder of the strength

and unity found throughout the community. “It truly takes a village to build a great community, and today was a beautiful reminder of what we can accomplish when we stand together. We remember their sacrifice, their courage, and the lasting impact they had on our nation. I will never forget.”

The gathering concluded with expressions of gratitude to the Deer Park Fire Department, community organizations, volunteers, and residents who came together to ensure that the memories of those lost— and the sacrifices of those who served—continue to live on.

Among those in attendance was Town of Babylon Councilman Terence McSweeney, an FDNY firefighter, who joined Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and fellow members of government in paying tribute to the victims and heroes of September 11. Schaffer: Community Remembrance Remains Essential Supervisor Rich Schaffer emphasized the importance of coming together as a community to honor the victims of September 11 and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in the years that followed. “Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives lost on September 11 and the brave men and

women who answered the call to help our nation recover. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. It is our responsibility to ensure that future generations understand the significance of that day and the lasting impact it had on our communities.” Schaffer also recognized the Deer Park Fire Department and the many community organizations, volunteers, and residents who helped make the tribute possible. McSweeney: ‘I Will Never Forget’ For Councilman Terence McSweeney, who served as an FDNY firefighter, the commemoration carried deep personal significance. “It was truly an honor to stand alongside the Deer Park community and my

New Mural Boards Bring Color And Creativity To Deer Park Avenue Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor and Councilman Tony Martinez, and Councilman Terence McSweeney joined members of the community Saturday to celebrate the completion of new mural boards at the Long Island Rail Road train trestle on Deer Park Avenue. The colorful murals are the result of a collaborative effort by the Deer Park Arts Council, BACCA, and talented local artists who contributed their creativity and hard work to the project. A special acknowledgment was given to Ron Becker of Deer Park, who spearheaded the program and helped turn the vision into reality. His dedication to the arts and the community played an important role in bringing the project to fruition. “Projects like this are a perfect example of what can happen when our community comes together,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “The arts bring people together, create a stronger sense

of community, and help make our neighborhoods more vibrant and welcoming. We are grateful to Ron Becker, the Deer Park Arts Council, BACCA, and all the talented artists who made this project

possible.” Councilman Terence McSweeney also praised the organizations and individuals involved, noting that projects like these help enhance the quality of life throughout the Town of Babylon.

“These murals add beauty, creativity, and character to Deer Park,” McSweeney said. “It is wonderful to see local organizations, artists, and residents working together to transform our surroundings and create

something that everyone can enjoy.” The new mural boards are expected to provide residents and visitors with a lasting display of local artistry while contributing to the continued beautification

of Deer Park Avenue. Town officials expressed their appreciation to everyone who helped bring the project together and look forward to seeing the murals enjoyed by the community for years to come.

The Town of Babylon marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, with its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, at the Town of Babylon 9/11 Hometown Memorial on Ocean Parkway. The ceremony also included the unveiling of the Town’s new Post-9/11 Memorial honoring residents who became ill or died as a

result of their service and exposure in the aftermath of the attacks. Fourteen names were inscribed on the new memorial at its dedication. The memorial joins the Hometown Memorial, which honors Babylon residents who were killed on September 11, 2001. The new memorial had remained covered since its installation, and the families

of the 14 honorees had not seen it before the ceremony. During the program, the covering was removed, allowing the families to see their loved ones’ names together for the first time. “September 11th did not end when that day was

over,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “For too many families in our community, the years that followed brought illness, loss, and a sacrifice that has gone unmarked for far too long.” The memorial was created through the efforts

of the Town Board, the Post9/11 Memorial Committee and the Town of Babylon Chiefs Association, working alongside the families of those honored. The ceremony was open to the public and provided residents with an

opportunity to remember those lost on September 11 and those whose lives were affected in the years that followed. The Town intended the memorial to serve as a lasting place of reflection for families and the community for generations to come.
