Putting the family name on this street is a small way of saying what that has meant to this community.” The D’Addario family’s string-making trade dates to the 1600s in Salle, Italy, and came to New York in 1905 when the family emigrated to Astoria, Queens. The business that exists today was formed in 1974 and moved to its Farmingdale campus in 1994, where it continues to design and manufacture products used by musicians at every level. “The Town of Babylon has been our home for more than 50 years and this recognition is truly an honor for our family and family of employees,” said D’Addario & Company CEO John D’Addario III said. Replace your HVAC air filter: Replace the air filter in your HVAC system before winter arrives. A clean filter can help the system operate more efficiently, potentially reducing energy use and heating costs. It can also improve indoor air quality during winter, when windows are generally closed for extended periods. Winterizing a home does not have to

be a major undertaking. Taking care of these simple maintenance and safety tasks before winter arrives can help homeowners stay comfortable, improve efﬁciency, and prepare their homes for the colder months ahead.

2026 International Coastal Cleanup The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the Long Island State Park Region will be participating in the 37th Annual International Coastal Cleanup at several park locations. The International Coastal Cleanup is a global effort, under the international umbrella of Ocean Conservancy, in which over 100 countries participate. The special ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and will take place along the beach, with beautiful views of Oyster Bay Harbor. Light refreshments will be served to guests. “Our beautiful beach and picturesque harbor provide the perfect backdrop for couples who are looking to celebrate their love, and what better day

It’s easy to forget as temperatures cool and schedules become busier, but many fertilizer manufacturers recommend applying their products several times throughout the year, including in fall. Follow the intervals listed on the fertilizer packaging. Conduct a soil test: A soil test can determine if the soil is lacking nutrients needed for healthy grass growth. Amendments can help restore pH balance, if necessary, and promote stronger growth in spring.

Aerate, if necessary: Soil can become compacted over time, making it harder for water and fertilizer nutrients to reach grass roots. Compaction can weaken grass and make it more vulnerable to drought and other adverse weather. Aeration can promote stronger root development and may be best left to professionals, particularly for larger lawns. Remove excessive thatch: Thin layers of thatch can beneﬁt lawns by providing nutrients from grass clippings and leaves. However, excessive thatch can block air, water and fertilizer from reaching the soil. Thatch often can be removed with a rake, while especially thick layers may require scarifying or professional dethatching. Continue to water the lawn: Coolseason grasses still require water into the fall. Though lawns generally need less frequent watering than they do in summer, professionals note that coolseason grasses still need roughly an inch of water each week. Remove leaves as they fall: Fallen leaves can block water and nutrients from reaching the soil, much like excessive thatch. Remove leaves regularly, particularly when they begin accumulating in large quantities. Fall is an opportune time to tend to a lawn and increase the chances that grass will grow back strong and healthy in spring.

The community enjoyed the Memorial Day Parade, Spring Street Fair, Medieval History Day, Farmingdale Music On Main, Movie Nights, Village Pops Concerts conducted by Edward Albinski, Runners Edge Main Street Mile, the Farmers Market and more! Two significant milestones were celebrated on the Village Green at the Pops Concerts this Summer. Farmingdale Village unveiled a monument in honor of Moses Cornelius, celebrating our Country’s 250th Anniversary on July 1st. The historic evening featured the pops orchestra, minutes of history by Village Historian Debbie Podolski and a reading of the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson actor, Donn Weber of Hardscrabble Theater. At the July 8th Pops Concert, the Village Gazebo was dedicated to Brad Demilo, the beloved Farmingdale Village Pops Orchestra conductor who started the Pops concerts and conducted the orchestra for 42 magnificent seasons.
