How To Honor Servicemen & Women This Memorial Day Men and women serving in the military make considerable sacrifices in defense of the United States and its citizens. Such sacrifices can easily be taken for granted by those with no friends or family members serving in the military, but it’s important for all Americans to recognize the efforts of both active and veteran servicemen and women. Honoring active military members and veterans does not have to be an elaborate undertaking. Service members and their families often cherish even the simplest of gestures, and the following are a handful of ways grateful men and women can show their appreciation to active and retired members of the military. Help a neighbor who’s on active duty. Active duty service members can be away from their families for long periods of time, and their absence can make things difficult for their families. Spouses of deployed service

members are typically left to manage a household on their own for months at a time. Neighbors can show their appreciation by helping with some chores around the house. Offer to mow a neighbor’s lawn or drive a neighbor’s kids to school. Such gestures might seem small, but they can go a long way toward alleviating some of the stress that spouses of deployed service members deal with on a daily basis. Support the Wounded Warrior Project. Many service members sustain physical injuries while deployed. The Wounded Warrior Project works to raise awareness and enlist the public’s help to address the needs of injured service members. Men and women who want to show their appreciation to injured service members can work with the Wounded Warrior Project by volunteering at project-sponsored events or hosting fundraising events such as golf tournaments

present, to thank them for their sacrifices, dedication and service.

or community picnics. More information about working with the Wounded Warrior Project is available at www. woundedwarriorproject.org.

Exercise your right to vote. One of the best ways to honor servicemen and women is to avoid taking the rights they so bravely defend for granted. Members of the military routinely put their lives on the line so Americans can enjoy freedoms that many people across the globe cannot. Voting is one such freedom, so Americans should make it a point to vote every Election Day and teach their kids about the responsibility each American has to vote and take an interest in their government. Speak with active and veteran members of the military about their thoughts on proposed legislation and their opinions on how to improve that legislation, taking those opinions into consideration before casting your vote.

Write a letter of appreciation. One of the simplest ways to show your support for service members is to write them a letter expressing that appreciation. If friends, relatives or neighbors are active service members or veterans, sit down and write a letter telling them how much you appreciate their sacrifice in service of their country, and encourage youngsters to do the same. If you don’t know any members of the military, you can work with A Million Thanks (www.amillionthanks.org), a yearround campaign that encourages Americans to write letters or emails or send cards or prayers to U.S. military personnel, past and

Summer Camp Options Summer camp is a beloved tradition in many families. Many parents of young children fondly recall spending their summers at summer camp, where they made lifelong friends and learned the finer points of roasting marshmallows and competing in three-legged sack races. The following are some of the summer camp options parents can expect to encounter as they search for the right camper for their kids:

Some summer camps focus on a particular sport, catering to young athletes who want to further develop their athletic talents. Sports camps may feature guest lectures and lessons from notable local athletes and coaches, while some camps may provide instruction from current and/or former professional athletes. Some sports camps are overnight, while others are day camps.

Sports Camps

Day camps are not overnight camps, which means kids will return home each night rather than sleep over at camp. Day camps typically offer many of the activities people have come to associate with camps, including crafts, sports and even day-trips to experience local culture or attractions. Many day camps are co-ed, and counselors typically live within the community.

Family camps are opportunities for the whole family to enjoy the summer camp experience. Family camps typically tailor their activities around tasks families can complete together, with counselors providing assistance when it’s needed. Family camps may be faith-based or secular, and families typically stay overnight, sleeping in facilities on the campsites or in lodging away from home.

Special Needs Camps

Faith-Based Camps Faith-based camps offer many of the same activities as more traditional summer camps, but do so while simultaneously offering campers the opportunity to celebrate and further explore their religious beliefs. Some faith-based camps may focus heavily on religion, incorporating faith into daily camp activities, while others may be more subtle.

Parents of children with special needs can still send their kids to summer camp, as there are many camps that cater to such youngsters. Special needs camps may cater to campers who are blind, deaf, learning disabled or mentally or physically disabled. Staff at special needs camps typically undergoes extensive training, which helps to calm some of the fears parents may have.

Play It Safe On Your Prom Night

Call Now For Information On Our Ne Wedding Showcase! xt

Do not carry large sums of money with you to prom. It’s best to avoid taking a lot of cash to prom, as young ladies can’t keep watchful eyes on their handbags as they cut a rug, and young men might leave their wallets in their unattended sports coats. Do not take offerings of drinks from unsealed containers, even if they look innocuous. Teens should be wary of accepting drinks offered in unsealed containers, especially if those drinks are offered by strangers. If a drink tastes funny, stop drinking it and report it to a faculty member or chaperone.

Prom is a memorable and enjoyable event for high school students. A chance for teenagers to insert some glamour into their lives, prom also provides an opportunity to make lasting memories with friends before high school ends.

Don’t feel pressured to drink alcohol or do drugs. The majority of promgoers want to have clean fun as they listen and dance to music and share laughs with their friends, so students should not feel pressured to engage in risky behavior involving drugs and alcohol. If someone is pressuring you and/or your friends, walk away and encourage your friends to do the same.

While prom should be fun, that revelry should not come at the expense of safety. Prom night is most enjoyable when it is safe and memorable for all the right reasons, and teens and parents can take the following steps to ensure prom night goes safely:

Be aware of your surroundings at night, especially when you leave the prom. Ask the limousine driver to pick you up in a well-lit area of the parking lot so you are not vulnerable to people with ill intentions.

If pressure arises, call a parent to come pick you up immediately.

The Benefits Of Buying Local When Gifting before finally being connected to a real person. Local merchants tend to handle their own customer service, and consumers who have a concern or question about a product often speak directly with the store’s owner. That sense of direct connection gives consumers some peace of mind and can make them more comfortable when making their purchases.

The average adult must shop for gifts for friends or family members several times over the course of a typical year. Birthdays, holidays and anniversaries are often the driving force behind such excursions, but some people will buy a gift for a loved one even if there is no special occasion attached. When buying gifts for those we love, many consumers hope to find something unique. But unique items can be hard to find at the local shopping mall, where national chain stores tend to dominate. That reality highlights just one of the many benefits of shopping locally.

Local merchants tend to be more knowledgeable about their products. Large chain stores might have many employees working on the floor or behind the registers, but those employees are not always experts on the products being sold throughout the store. Local merchants tend to have less inventory and fewer employees who often know a great deal about the products on the shelves. Some employees might even have developed the products being sold, and that knowledge can be put to use when uncertain shoppers are looking for the perfect gift for their loved ones.

Local merchants tend to have more unique merchandise. A national chain store on one side of the country is not much different from its counterpart on the opposite coast. The stores’ layouts are likely identical and so is their inventory. Unlike such corporate giants, local merchants aren’t mass-producing their items, and chances are the items sold by local merchants are one-ofa-kind. Such items make for more unique gifts that recipients might find more thoughtful than an item they can find at larger chain stores. Local merchants often provide more satisfying customer service. Larger chains tend to rely on automated systems to handle many of their customer service calls. Some consumers may never

even speak to a real person when they call a customer service line, while others may first have to answer several automated questions

Local merchants are more accessible. Arguably the biggest benefit of shopping locally for gifts is the proximity to home. Consumers who buy products from merchants within their community won’t have to travel far to do their shopping, nor will they need to gas up the car if the item needs to be returned or exchanged. Some local merchants may even be within walking distance of home, making a shopping trip even more accessible.

HUNTINGTON LIMOUSINE SERVICE Make Us Your Designated Driver

Transportation Tips: Getting To And From Your Wedding Transportation can be easily overlooked when couples plan their weddings. Couples may recognize they may have to hire a car or limousine to get them to their ceremonies and then their receptions, but what happens when the limousine calls it a night? While some couples immediately depart for their honeymoons after saying goodbye to their wedding guests, many build a day in between the wedding and honeymoon, giving them a chance to rest, take stock of their wedding gifts and finish packing. That leaves the question of how a couple will return home from the reception or get to the airport. The best man may offer to drive the bride and groom where they need to go. But if the best man is from out of town, he may not have a chariot awaiting to escort the newly christened husband and wife to the airport. As a result, all members of the wedding party should discuss their post-wedding travel plans in advance. Any person who will be arriving in a hired car will need to make arrangements to have their own vehicle available at the end of the wedding or be able to call a taxi or car service to get a safe ride home. Some wedding party members may decide to park a car at the reception site or a hotel the day prior to the wedding so they will have a return ride. It’s also a good idea to ask friends or family members who are not in the bridal party for a ride home. Even if wedding party members have a car available, no one should drive when intoxicated. Couples may want to include the phone number of a local taxi service in their hotel gift bags just to be safe. For more information, call: 631.226.2636

helped to ward off evil spirits.

A corsage is a small bundle of flowers that is pinned to the lapel area of a woman’s clothing or tied around her wrist. Some people get creative and wear corsages in their hair or on their ankles.

While corsage fashion may have changed, they remain incredibly popular today. Male promgoers typically give their dates corsages before heading off for the festivities, and promgoers or others wearing corsages to formal events may want to consider the following corsage dos and don’ts:

Corsages get their name from the French bouquet de corsage, meaning a grouping of flowers for the bodice. Initially, corsages were attached to the bodice of a dress and wearers believed the corsages

DON’T forget to talk to your date about clothing color schemes and style of dress, as corsages often are matched to the gown. Florists can customize the corsage based on the length, style and color of what a date is wearing. DO ask if the gown has straps. This will help you decide whether or not to purchase a corsage that pins near the bodice or one with a wrist strap. DON’T feel the need to match the corsage and boutonniere exactly. While they may feature the same flowers, it is not necessary for them to have the same ribbon or bloom. DO go easy on your date and let him know if you prefer a certain flower or style of corsage. In addition, mention if you have any allergies to certain flowers so your corsage does not trigger an attack. DON’T be embarrassed to discuss budget with a florist. If you have a certain price in mind, mention

your budget as you look for the right corsage. Then choose an arrangement that falls in your price range. DO experiment with handmade corsages if you are handy. Amateur florists can try their hand at making corsages for their dates, who may be especially impressed and moved by homemade corsages. Make a corsage from fresh or silk flowers or create a “bloom” from ribbon. There are plenty of tutorials and tips for corsage tricks. Visit a craft center for more inspiration and materials. DON’T be shy about exploring the modern and trendy ideas in corsages. Corsages can be a method of self-expression, and there’s no limit to their style, size and placement. Tiny blooms can be grouped together to make a corsage bracelet or a corsage ring. DO keep corsages cool until they are used. Store them in a refrigerator to prevent the flowers from drying out prematurely. Afterward, consider drying the corsage to save as a memento.

Breakfast In Bed For Mother’s Day Invest in a food tray to make serving breakfast in bed that much easier. A bedside table or nightstand also can fit the bill.

Few gestures of affection create such a stir as presenting a loved one with breakfast in bed. On special occasions, treating a loved one to breakfast in bed can get their big day off on the right foot. The success of such an endeavor often boils down to following a few tips:

Add small details to make the breakfast even more special. Use heart- or flower-shaped cookie cutters to add whimsy to everything from pancakes to fruit. A hand-written card or poem is another nice touch.

The surprise of breakfast in bed is almost as important as the presentation. Make sure everyone keeps the secret and rises early enough to prepare the meal. Time the meal so that it is ready when the person of honor typically awakes.

Did You Know? Private sellers may know that the amount of mileage on their vehicles will go a long way toward determining their asking price, but they may not know that certain mileage milestones can affect how prospective buyers view their automobiles.

Banging and clanking in the kitchen does not a relaxing morning make, so select an easily prepared dish to cut back on the noise. Storeor restaurant-bought foods can still make a nice impression if they are dressed up. Adult supervision is a must when young kids are cooking. This ensures everything goes safely and smoothly while still giving kids the chance to pitch in. Delegate some tasks to kids. A young child may be able to arrange flowers in a vase, while a slightly older child may be more adept at slicing toast or helping to flip pancakes. The breakfast should be a joint effort so that the person treated to breakfast knows everyone involved cared enough to pitch in.

Choose easy-to-eat foods. Crumbly and messy foods are not the ideal fit for breakfast in bed. No one wants to spill food onto pillows or go to bed the next evening to find a pile of crumbs beneath the sheets. Finger foods or bite-sized items that can be popped into the mouth will not make much of a mess. Crepes may be a nice alternative to messier muffins. Serve coffee or tea in a cup with a lid to help prevent spills.

“A Little New York City Right Around The Corner At Affordable Prices”

For example, savvy buyers know that manufacturer warranties tend to expire after three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Another important mileage marker to consider is the 60,000-mile marker. Upon reaching 60,000 miles, many vehicles need certain upgrades, including new brakes. Sellers who wish to unload their preowned vehicle as quickly as possible may want to make these upgrades prior to selling their vehicles and showcase the service records to prospective buyers.

Prom Perfect Makeup bold lip look, select a product that is long-lasting and bring along your lipstick for touch-ups.

Prom is a milestone event for many teenagers. Months are spent in preparation for the night of dancing, dinner and reminiscing with classmates and friends. Guys and girls alike agonize over every decision, from what to wear to whom to take as a date. With so many choices to make, ladies may not give as much thought to their makeup as they do to their gowns or hair styles. But makeup is an important consideration for young ladies on prom night. The following are a few tips: Focus On One Area Many makeup artists prefer to create one area of focus, such as the lips or the eyes, on the face. Someone going with bold eye colors should leave their lips relatively bland, and vice versa. Those who desire a smokey, lined eye should choose a muted lip shade, while a nude or shimmery shadow will complement bold, red lips. If you’re known for your angular cheekbones, accent them with the right blusher. Choose Colors That Complement You

Be Photo-Ready Makeup that looks good in person may not work as well for the camera. If great prom photos are your goal, consider matte finishes on makeup and skip high-shine powders. Do a trial run of your makeup and have someone photograph you to determine how photos will turn out, tweaking your look as necessary. It can be tempting to match makeup to the dress you’re wearing. While that approach can work for some women, it is not always the right fit for everyone. It’s much better to coordinate makeup based on your skin tone, hair color and eye color. If there is a particular color palette that brightens up your face and makes your eyes pop, continue to use that for prom makeup and simply enhance it for extra drama. Make Makeup Last Through The Night Prom makeup should endure through the entire evening. The

weather may be warm and you may spend a good deal of the night dancing, so choose formulas with staying power. Help products along with some key application tips. Wash and dry your face and treat accordingly for your type of skin. If your skin produces a lot of oil, you may need to swipe your face with astringent. Moisturize dry skin so makeup will not flake off later in the night. Foundation primers can help makeup stick to the skin better. Translucent blotting powder can help lock in foundation and provide an adherent surface for lipstick and eye shadow. If you’re choosing a

Don’t Fret A Blemish Or Two Nerves and stress can contribute to breakouts. A blemished face is not something you want on prom night, but it’s not the end of the world, either. Use a concealer brush to dot concealer on the pimple and fan out to blend it into the surrounding skin. Pat finishing powder on the area to lock it all in. Avoid touching the area, which can negate the effects of the powder. Remember, one of the best prom looks is a winning smile. That’s easily achieved when having fun.

Can’t-Miss Grad Gifts Graduation season is a time for celebration as students prepare to face the next phase of their lives. Graduation parties will soon be in full swing, and people may find themselves attending one or more of these festive occasions.

streaming satellite music service. This way grads can enjoy their favorite tunes no matter where their roads lead them.

Professional Wardrobe Recent graduates may have interviews lined up or even a job awaiting them upon graduation, and such grads may need attire that is more befitting the business world. Suits, ties, collared shirts, briefcases and the like will make thoughtful gifts for the budding professional. If you are unsure of sizes or style preferences, a gift card to a well-known retailer or specialty shop is a safe idea.

Relaxation School is not easy, so a gift to a spa for a massage or facial session can be a way to help your favorite graduate unwind once final exam and term paper season has officially ended. Exercise is another way to unwind from the rigors of a school year, so consider a health club membership for new grads whose campus gym access is no longer available.

Party guests and graduation wellwishers may want to bring gifts for the guests of honor, and the following are a few ideas that newly minted grads may appreciate now or in the near future: Travel Graduates enter a time of transition between graduation and their pursuits of a career or additional schooling. The summer that follows graduation is filled with free time for many recent grads, making it a prime time to explore the world. If you know a new grad who harbors a sense of wanderlust, put together a travelthemed present complete with airline tickets, guide books, carryon luggage, and some converted currency to use as spending money. You even can work with a travel agent to customize a trip you know your new grad will love.

Financial Favors Cash is a graduation gift that will never go out of style. It may not be fancy, but cash certainly comes in handy for graduates facing repayment of student loans or the costs of secondary schooling. If giving cash at a party, write a check payable to the graduate rather than giving loose cash that can be easily lost. Some grads even may have a Go Fund Me or Paypal account to help offset schooling costs, and gift givers can deposit money directly into such accounts if they so desire.

8 Ways To Improve Your Golf Game Warmer weather sends scores of golfers to their favorite courses each and every day. Golf is a challenging pastime, but a few pointers can help golfers hone their short games, long games and everything in between. Choose the right clubs. There is more to selecting clubs than pulling any old iron out of your golf bag and whacking away. Wind, hazards and obstructions in landing areas should influence your decision of which club to use. Novice golfers may want to rely on their caddies to make club recommendations, and as they become more confident in their abilities, they can start to make their own choices. Anchor your feet. Anchor your foot behind the ball to drive the ball further. Right-handed players will keep the right foot anchored, and lefties will do the opposite. Do not lift your foot prematurely; otherwise, you can lose power and distance. Identify your weaknesses. As with any hobby, identifying those areas that need the most work can help you become a

better golfer. Keep track of each shot you take, and then look at the results to see which areas of your game need the most work. Fix your alignment. Align your shots by assessing the target from behind the ball. Then set the clubface behind the golf ball and align it with the target before you enter your stance. Use your torso for power. The torso is essential to a solid swing. Practice rotating from your core to control your backswing and then maintain the same spine angle and posture on the downswing. Use the wind. Not every golf game will be played in perfect

weather. A good player knows how to make adjustments for the wind depending on the shot. Use the wind to your advantage when you can, and adjust your swing when hitting into the wind. Become a better chipper. Many players put so much emphasis on their backswings and putt shots that they fail to devote any practice to chips. All shots are important for golfers trying to shed strokes off of their scores. Keep fit. Maintaining or improving your physical strength and overall health can help your golf game. Exercise and eat right, and you will have more endurance on the links.

How To Safely Navigate Wet Roadways Spring showers certainly may bring flowers later on, but they also contribute to challenging driving conditions. Early spring weather can be fickle, vacillating between dry, wet and even icy conditions. Drivers need to remain on their toes to safely traverse roadways near and far. Wet roadways and poor driving conditions contribute to thousands of road accidents each and every year. As roads get wet, oil and other substances rise to the surface of the pavement, which can quickly become slippery and compromise the traction offered by tires. Heavy rains also may lead to puddles, which can obscure hazards on the roadway. Cars may stall out in puddles or hydroplane, which occurs when cars coast along the surface of the water. Puddles also can be splashed by oncoming cars, leading to visibility issues. The

following

tips

can

help

prevent accidents, injuries and even fatalities during the rainy season: Slow down. Drivers should drive slower when roads are wet and when rain compromises visibility. It can take up to three times longer to stop on a wet road than a dry one. By slowing down, you will be able to stop or veer out of the way of danger. Leave room. When driving on wet roads, leave more room between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Again, this plays into stopping distance. Tailgating increases your risk of rear-ending a vehicle if you cannot stop in time on a wet roadway. Stay alert. It can be easy to be lulled into complacency while driving. But staying alert and conscious of every detail going on around you, you can reduce your risk of an accident when driving in less than ideal conditions. Skip cruise control. As a driver,

you want to remain in control of acceleration and speed, rather than leaving it up to the cruise control system. If you begin to hydroplane on cruise control, the car may actually speed up. Use your headlights. Headlights can light up the road in front of you, helping illuminate potential hazards. Lights on a car also make your vehicle more visible to others on the road. Always turn on the headlights in inclement weather.

Avoid jerky movements. Keep a steady pace and the vehicle in control. Jerking the wheel or accelerating and braking in an erratic fashion can cause the vehicle to spin out or skid on wet roads. Check your tires. Inspect your tires for tread wear and air pressure. Tires should be rotated as part of routine maintenance. Poorly performing tires are a significant safety risk.

Amenities To Consider For Your Next Vehicle Today’s automobiles come with more gadgets than ever before. New car buyers can now choose from a host of amenities geared toward making roads easier to navigate and long trips more comfortable. Whereas nonessential amenities once cost buyers a substantial amount of money, nowadays many auto manufacturers include options once considered luxuries in their standard packages. While not all amenities are free, and some may still cost drivers a considerable amount of money, the following are a handful of features drivers may find too irresistible: Satellite Radio: Satellite radio has been around for awhile, but only recently did it begin to become a standard offering in new vehicles. Drivers who buy a new car may find a deal where their initial satellite radio subscription, whether it’s a few months or a full year, is included in the cost of the vehicle, while others may need to foot the bill for their subscriptions. But many new cars are satellite-compatible, which is good news to drivers who want to expand their musical horizons beyond the offerings of their local terrestrial stations. Television:

The

vehicles

of

today

often

mimic mobile entertainment systems, and no such system is complete without television. Built-in televisions are nothing new, and many a parent has expressed gratitude that in-car televisions and DVD players can serve as mobile babysitters when taking the kids on long road trips. But some auto manufacturers have begun to offer broadcast television in their vehicles, which is made possible by a built-in television antenna that is capable of picking up nearby channels. Massaging Seats: Heated seats have a reputation of being a luxury well worth the extra investment when buying a new car. But motorists with some extra cash to spend may want to consider massaging seats. Such seats are typically limited to the backseats, but they work in similar fashion to massaging armchairs. Passengers or even drivers taking a break on a long road trip can jump into the back of their cars, recline the backseat and then enjoy a massage to iron out all those aches and pains that developed over the last several hours traversing the highways. Adaptive Lights: If you’re the type of driver

Great Apps For Drivers

Smartphones are a convenient tool that few people can now imagine living without. Smartphone-toting moms and dads know they always have a camera on hand to take quick snaps of their youngsters, while foodies rely on their smartphones to find nearby restaurants or read reviews of eateries while out on the town. But drivers also can benefit from smartphones thanks to the following apps: Waze: Commuters who download Waze to their smartphones may wonder how they ever navigated their daily treks to the office without this useful app, which allows drivers to share real-time traffic and road information with their fellow motorists. Drivers can use Waze to save time and gas money and make their commutes less stressful. Drivers who use Waze can actively report accidents and find the least expensive gas prices posted by fellow drivers in their community. GasBuddy: While fuel prices dipped in late 2014 and stayed low into 2015, today’s drivers are still conditioned to find the most affordable gas prices around. The GasBuddy app makes it easy to do just that, as users can share gas prices in their community, which fellow drivers can then peruse to find the most affordable filling stations along their driving routes. Drivers can even enter their city, ZIP code or postal code to find the cheapest gas in their vicinity. AAA Mobile: AAA members can use the AAA Mobile app to access AAA services on their smartphones. Such services include trip planning, member discounts and roadside assistance. The app also includes a mobile version of the motor club’s popular TripTik® Travel Planner, which makes it easy for smartphone users to find clubapproved hotels, restaurants and attractions. Drivers can even create and share trip itineraries between their desktop and mobile devices.

who prefers his or her amenities be more about function than luxury, then adaptive lights might be the perfect feature for you. Adaptive lights may swivel as an automobile turns a corner, making it easier for drivers to see. Some adaptive headlights also can sense darkness, protecting drivers who may forget to turn their lights on the moment twilight arrives or the sun sets.

Prom Hair How-To appointments quickly, so teens should start planning their prom looks early on. The following tips can help you look your best:

Prom and graduation season has arrived, and students everywhere are on the lookout for formal attire to wear.

promgoers will dabble in styling techniques and products at home, but many will be visiting salons to perfect their prom looks.

Once promgoers have chosen their beaded gowns and sleek tuxedos, prom-worthy hair is next on their priority lists. A fresh haircut or an intricate updo can perfectly complement a well-planned wardrobe. Some

Select your dress and jewelry first. Choosing your dress and jewelry first allows you to customize your prom hairstyle to complement the rest of your look. Many girls want to follow a theme, such as romantic or sleek, come prom night, and hairstyle is an important element of such themes. Book a trial appointment at the salon. When booking your hairstyle appointment, which should be done at least a month in advance of prom night, book a trial appointment as well. Bring photos of your gown to your trial appointment and ask the stylist to make suggestions on which looks will complement the gown. Keep your hair texture and cut in mind when choosing a hairstyle. Although great stylists often can work magic with your hair, they can’t do the impossible. If you have short hair and want a long, cascading style, you will need to invest in extensions. Ladies with naturally curly hair may have to spend more time in the chair having their hair straightened if they want a sleek bob. Sometimes it’s in your best interest to work with your hair’s natural texture. Get a grasp of your role in crafting your hairstyle. Speak with your stylist about how long before prom you should undergo any chemical processes, including perms, coloring, straightening or relaxing treatments. Do not make drastic changes right before the prom. Any modifications should be made a few months before the big night so you can get acclimated to your new hair and make any necessary adjustments. Take care of your hair so that it is healthy on prom night. Stick to a regular hair maintenance schedule, including trims every four to six weeks, so your locks

WESTERN SUFFOLK

look healthy on prom night. Depending on your hair texture, a stylist may recommend deepconditioning treatments. Always be gentle with your hair, avoiding tugging or harsh brushing while it is wet, as such treatment can lead to breakage. Practice, practice, practice if you are going it alone. Make several trial runs if you plan to do your own hair, asking a friend or family member for help if you have difficulty working on your own hair. Don’t go crazy cleaning your hair. Oftentimes, complicated styles are more easily achieved with slightly “dirty” hair. Do not wash your hair the day of the prom; do so the day before so your hair has more grip and will be less likely to slip out of pins or other hair accessories on the big day. Adding a little texturizer or pomade to hair can thicken it up and give it more hold as well. Have a backup plan at the ready. A backup plan covers you if your hair simply isn’t cooperating or if the weather is not conducive to the style you selected. A sleek chignon or a messy French twist can reign in problem hair. Call the salon before you leave the house to ensure the stylist is running on time. Call ahead so you aren’t left twiddling your thumbs as you wait for a tardy stylist at the salon. In addition, wear a shirt that can be removed easily without disrupting your newly styled hair as you change into your dress. Don’t forget hair accessories. Ask your stylist to recommend any accessories you may need to keep your hair looking great through the night, and don’t forget them at home. Keep your makeup artist in the loop. If a makeup artist will be doing your makeup, be sure he or she is brought up to speed on your prom night hairstyle and the type of dress you will be wearing. Prom night is a chance for teens to add some glamour to their lives. Hairstyles are a big part of the finished look, so consideration should be given to styles and the work necessary to keep hair looking great through the night. www.seasonsmagazineonline.com

Enjoying Staycations Recovery from the recession that began in 2008 has sparked renewed interest in vacation travel. Resort bookings are up, and millions will enjoy exotic vacations in the months to come.

Coasting across the water of a lake or ocean is an enjoyable pastime, so repurpose your vacation funds to buy a boat or some jet skis that you can enjoy throughout the warmer months.

While discretionary spending is increasing, some individuals and families continue to take a conservative approach to their finances, and that approach extends to how they spend their time off. Many are still embracing “staycations,” in which families forgo travel in favor of staying home. Staycations may not be as exotic as trips abroad, but there are several ways that families can make their staycations enjoyable and memorable. Invest in your home or lifestyle. Instead of bankrolling a trip overseas, channel those funds into improvements for your home or yard to create a relaxing atmosphere you can enjoy year-round. Install that pool or landscape the backyard to make it feel like a tropical paradise.

Look for hidden gems. Some local businesses may be willing to open up for “behind the scenes” tours if you ask. This can be a fun excursion for young children. Ask employees of a movie theater if you can see the projection room. Newspaper offices may host tours of their facilities. Even a bowling alley can be fascinating to kids if they can see ball-return mechanisms or how equipment is stored. Watching the zamboni machine clean the ice at a rink also may be an entertaining sneak peak into rink operations. Splurge on a show or sporting event. Attend an event you normally wouldn’t unless you were on vacation. Take a trip to see a Broadway or Broadway-inspired musical at a nearby theater or take the family to see your local sports team play a home game against its biggest rival. Treat yourself to concession stand snacks and a few souvenirs. Dine out a few nights. Vacations often entail eating out, especially if meals are not included in a traditional vacation package. Use your staycation as the opportunity to dine at local restaurants you have yet to visit. Indulge the kids one night and put them in charge of choosing the meals. Forget those diet plans for a day or two and savor that triplescoop ice cream cone. If the cost of dining out has you concerned, select restaurants that offer coupons in community mailers or value packs.

Hop on one of those sight-seeing buses and learn something new about where you live. You may just be surprised at what you can discover.

Read the newspaper or community bulletin. Chances are you can find a number of entertaining and low-cost activities sponsored by your town or other organizations close to home. Fireworks displays, movies under the stars, boat tours and fairs are just a handful of the fun events that may be coming soon. Turn off electronics. Choosing The Perfect Color Painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to transform the look of a space. The colors homeowners choose for their walls can give rooms their own unique feel and even affect the moods of the people within them. Finding the right shade for a bedroom or kitchen involves more than just selecting the first color that catches your eye. Design experts and psychologists alike say it may be worthwhile to choose a color that helps you feel good rather than just following design trends. The paint color you pick may add energy to a space or create a tranquil retreat where you can unwind at the end of the day.

Blue To create a spa-like environment and a more serene space, look to shades of blue in soft variations. Cool blues are soothing colors that can help lower stress levels and promote sleep. That’s why blue is a frequent fixture in bedrooms and bathrooms. Just be advised that too much blue can make a room appear cold and stark, so balance out blue with some warmer accents.

Orange Many people do not immediately consider bright orange for their homes, but when

used as an accent shade, orange can really brighten up a home. Orange is considered a shade that expands creativity and imparts a youthful appeal to a space. Consider an orange accent wall or a burst of color with orange throw pillows. If pumpkin orange is a little too bold for you, tone it down by choosing a more pastel, peachy hue, which is equally warm and energizing.

Red Red stimulates energy and appetite, which is why the shade is so popular in restaurants and home dining spaces. Red is a good choice for social gathering rooms, but may not be the wisest choice for a bedroom, as the color may prove overstimulating.

Green Green can evoke composure and tranquility and works in any room of the house. Since green is the primary color of nature, it also works well for those people who want to bring some of the outdoors inside and work with the fresh starts and new growth that green can inspire. To make green feel less subdued and

sleepy, work with its complementary opposite, red, by using a few bold red accents here and there to balance out the tranquility of green.

Purple People have long related purple to royalty, and this dramatic color can add a formal, regal aspect to a home depending on the hue. Purple also may help stimulate the creative side of the brain. In paler shades of lavender, purple can seem almost ethereal and spiritual. Some designers suggest avoiding purple in a bedroom because that is a place you want your brain to rest rather than be stimulated.

Yellow Few colors are more vibrant than yellow, which can help stimulate conversation and make thoughts more focused. A luminous shade of yellow is an ideal way to make any space more welcoming and bright. Just use it sparingly, as too much yellow may not be a good thing. Yellow accents mixed with touches of purple can offer the balance needed to prevent yellow rooms from overwhelming residents and guests.

Seeding & Fertilizing Schedule Restoring lawns and gardens back to their pre-winter glory is high on many a homeowner’s landscaping to-do list. In much of the country, the best times to tackle lawn projects are when temperatures are moderate, like in spring and fall. These seasons also mark the best time to seed and fertilize. Planting and fertilizing new grass seed should be done when frost is no longer a concern, and before frost arrives if you are planting in autumn. Sowing lawn seed should be done when the soil is warm, the daytime temperatures are moderate and you can keep the new seeds quite moist at all times. While grass seed can be applied in the summer, it is more challenging to get the seeds to take root and thrive at this time, as water is more likely to evaporate under the hot sun. Also, many weeds germinate in the heat of summer. As a result, the weeds can infiltrate areas of the lawn where you planted,

compromising the look of your lawn. The process of reseeding and fertilizing your lawn is relatively similar if you decide to do so in late spring or early fall: • Rake the parts of the lawn you plan to seed and remove any debris or rocks. • Apply fertilizer to the cleared planting area. Use a rake or tiller to break up the soil and distribute the fertilizer to a depth of roughly two to four inches. Speak with a landscaper about which type of fertilizer you will need depending on where you live. Many fertilizers contain extra phosphorous to stimulate root growth in the lawn. • Moisten the prepared area and let the soil settle. You want the soil damp, but not so wet that it causes the newly applied fertilizer to run off. • Begin to sow the grass seed according to the rate indicated on the seed bag for the type of grass

STATE

you will be growing. Choose a grass seed that will thrive in your climate. Certain seeds are more tolerant of drought and sunlight, while other species are better for shady areas or damper climates. Again, if you have any questions, consult with a lawn and garden center. • Spread the seed with a broadcast spreader. Some lawn experts recommend spreading the seed in parallel rows and then repeating the process again in rows set at a right angle to the first series of rows for the best chances of seed coverage. The seeds can then be raked into the soil, covered with a little more soil and patted down. • Water to keep the seeds damp. This may require watering twice or more per day until the seeds begin to germinate. Covering the seeds with about 1/4 inch of straw also can help keep the seeds moist, deter seed scavengers and prevent soil erosion. Remove the straw once the grass begins to grow.

• Roughly four weeks after the seeds have started to grow, apply another round of fertilizer to replenish the top layer of soil with nutrients that may have washed away from the constant watering. Homeowners can employ a similar process to overseed a lawn in the hopes of producing a thicker, more attractive landscape. Any thatch and debris should be raked away, and the top layer of the lawn surface can be gently aerated. Top dress the lawn with a very thin layer of new soil and compost. Broadcast the seed over the prepared lawn and lightly rake the new seeds to help them settle into the soil. Apply fertilizer and water the lawn frequently to keep the new seeds moist. Once the seed has established itself, you can water the lawn for longer periods and less frequently to help develop strong roots. Wait for the lawn to reach a height of three to four inches before the first cut of the season.

Embrace An Active Outdoor Lifestyle Blue skies and warm weather entice people to enjoy the great outdoors. For many people, few things are more enjoyable than soaking up some rays and breathing in some fresh air. Moderate temperatures help make many outdoor activities that much more enjoyable. But even if the weather isn’t perfect, individuals can make the best of the situation and still get out of the house. As the seasons of warm weather return, those itching to get outside can explore these entertaining outdoor activities.

Hiking Thousands of miles of hiking trails crisscross North America. These trails include rough and rugged paths blazed across natural areas and long-distance trails that stretch over portions of the country. From the Appalachian Trail in the East to the Bigfoot Trail in the west, hikers and nature enthusiasts have plenty of trails to tread. Hiking is a great outdoor activity in part because it can be enjoyed

by people of any age and just about any fitness level. Hikers can work up from relatively short and flat trails to more intense vertical and varied hikes. Local parks, government preserves and rural areas offer plenty of places to walk and hike.

riding should visit a stable or riding academy nearby. You likely do not need to own a horse of your own, as riding schools and stables will have animals you can work with.

Biking Biking is another outdoor activity ideal for people of all ages and athletic abilities. Once you’ve learned to ride a bicycle, that ability stays with you, whether you ride a bike each day or haven’t taken one for a spin in years.

When hiking, it’s best to go in pairs. In the event anything occurs, such as an injury, the other hiker will be able to go for help. Hikers also should alert people at home as to their itineraries. Leave a map and plot out where you will be, especially if hikes take you off the beaten path. Remember to pack a portable snack and plenty of water. And when out in the sun, apply sunscreen and reapply as needed.

Horseback Riding Nature takes on an entirely different look when you are atop a horse. Horseback riding isn’t just for country folk or cowboys, and it can be a great workout as well as a recreational retreat. It takes balance, strong legs and quick reflexes to stay in a saddle. Those interested in horseback

horse and have him or her get to know you. Approach the horse from the front left side. Horses are prey animals and can be skittish by nature, so a firm, calm greeting can reassure the animal.

Remember to wear the right clothing, including long pants and boots, for riding. A hat can shade you from the overhead sun, while a helmet is adviseable for people new to the sport or those who want added protection. Always arrive early so that you can familiarize yourself with your

Many towns and cities across the country have become much more bike-friendly in recent years, clearing space for biking paths and lanes even in the busiest metropolitan areas. And mountain bikers still have plenty of trails to traverse as well. Check that your bike is in good working order and that the chain is freshly oiled. Take your bike to a local cycling shop for a tuneup if necessary. Verify the fit of helmets, especially on children who may have grown since the most recent cycling season.

How To Spot Unhealthy Trees Perhaps because they can live for so many years, trees have a way of falling down homeowners’ landscaping priority lists. Trees also tend to be big and strong, so it’s no surprise that they often are overlooked in favor or other areas of a lawn and garden that don’t seem so strong in the face of Mother Nature. But trees are susceptible to damage and disease, and homeowners who learn to recognize symptoms of such problems can prevent them from escalating and reduce the risk that the trees will cause damage to their properties. The following are just some of the ways homeowners can determine if their trees are unhealthy. Homeowners who suspect they have a tree that poses a safety risk should contact a professional tree service for an immediate inspection and steer clear of the tree until an inspection has been performed. Check around the base of the tree. The base of a tree may offer some telltale signs that the tree is unhealthy. Soil that is cracked or

raised at the base of the tree may be indicative of a tree that has started to uproot. If you recognize any cracking, or if the soil is raised, look at the tree to see if it is leaning. If the soil is cracked or raised because it is uprooting, then the tree might have already started to lean in the opposite direction of the cracking or raised soil. Examine for fungus. The growth of fungus on the tree trunk or close to it may be a sign that the tree is rotting or decaying. Fungal growth, such as a sudden population of mushrooms around the base of the tree, is another sign of decay. If the wood behind fungal growth crumbles easily, then homeowners should call a professional tree service, as the fungal problem on the tree has likely already been festering for quite some time. Look for cavities on the trunk. Cracks and cavities on a tree may not be an emergency, but especially deep cracks and cavities may be indicative of a structural problem. Multiple

cracks and cavities also serve as red flags. Look for dead wood. It may sound simple, but dead wood poses a threat to the tree and anyone who happens to spend time in its vicinity. Dead wood snaps easily, and falling dead wood can harm anyone unlucky enough to be beneath the tree when the dead wood snaps. Dead wood branches won’t bend in the wind, and such branches frequently fall off of trees when strong gusts of wind come along.

Dead branches either won’t have leaves, or the leaves will be brown (dead pine branches will have brown needles). Weak connections. Unhealthy trees often have weak connections between their branches and their trunks. If branches don’t appear to be strongly connected to the tree bark, call a tree service to determine a solution. The tree might not be on its way out, but you may have to take steps to strengthen the connections so branches are not at risk of falling.

Veggie Garden Tips For Beginners Planting a vegetable garden can be a worthwhile endeavor for anyone who has an available patch of land. Gardens need not take up much space, and even apartment dwellers without yards can plant small gardens in containers they place on terraces or window boxes. Although establishing a garden is easy enough, beginners may make a few mistakes along the way. Those who already have paved the garden way before can offer novice gardeners some worthwhile tips. One of the first decisions novice gardeners must make is which crops to grow. This will help determine how much land you will need and which supplies or soil amendments will be necessary. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, a common error for beginners is planting too much and more than anyone could ever consume, so it’s best to start small and be proud of that small garden. Plants such as peppers, squash and tomatoes produce throughout the season, so you may not need many plants to provide for your needs. Less prolific plants may require a greater investment to produce a similar yield.

Locate your garden in an area that gets adequate sun. Many vegetables need between six and eight hours of sunlight per day. Without enough light, they will not bear as much and could be susceptible to insect infestation. Vegetables and fruit also need plenty of water because they’re not very drought-tolerant, so keep gardens close to a water source. Another good tip is to locate the garden near the house or barbecue grill. This way you can easily harvest fresh produce and use it when cooking. Soil preparation is also key. Till the soil and remove debris like rocks, sticks and hard clumps of dirt. Work with organic material, such as manure or compost. Apply mulch after planting to help maintain moisture levels in the soil.

For the dressing, fry the chopped bacon in a medium skillet until crisp. Add the vinegars and water, and heat until boiling. Lower the heat to medium and add the sugar, salt, white pepper and celery seed, stirring well for about 2 or 3 minutes until the sugar dissolves. Set the pan aside and keep warm. Place the Brussels sprouts in a large bowl, and lightly drizzle with olive oil and toss. Place the Brussels sprouts in an oiled grill basket or grill wok. Set it on a baking tray. Lightly brush the cut sides of the radicchio with olive oil and set on the baking tray too, and take out to the grill. Set the grill basket filled with Brussels sprouts directly over the fire. Toss the sprouts every few minutes and grill until they are tender when pierced with a fork, about 10 to 15 minutes, then move the basket of sprouts to the indirect side of the grill. Place the radicchio, cut-side down, over direct heat and grill until you have good grill marks, about 4 minutes. To serve, arrange the radicchio and Brussels sprouts on a platter. Sprinkle with the onion and spoon the Hot Bacon Dressing over all. Serve at once.

Do’s & Don’ts Of Kitchen Remodels Kitchen renovations have long been a safe way to improve the functionality and value of a home. But not every kitchen project is a guaranteed winner. Homeowners may inadvertently make changes that end up sticking out like a sore thumb rather than improving the space. Take a look at these kitchen remodeling dos and don’ts to guide your next undertaking. DO consider the way your kitchen will look with the rest of the home. Keep architectural integrity in mind when designing the space. A farmhouse sink and country cabinets can look out of place in an ultra-modern home. DON’T overlook the importance of a seasoned designer or architect. These pros will know the tricks to maximizing space and achieving the ideal layout of appliances and may be able to recommend local contractors and vendors. DO look beyond surface details to the structural integrity of the design. The kitchen should be functional, long-lasting and beautiful. DON’T design just for today, but look to the future as well. Unless you are willing to spend $50,000 every five years, look for styles

ROCK SOLID of Long Island CORP.

BRICK & MASONRY Decorative Landscape Design

and materials that will last for the long haul. Older homeowners may want to make adjustments now that address potential mobility issues down the road. DO work with what you have. A complete demolition and renovation is not always necessary to achieve the desired results. Only invest in major changes if something is not working (such as having to walk across the entire kitchen to access the stove) or is unsafe. Otherwise, minor upgrades may do the trick.

DON’T over-improve the space. A fully equipped commercial kitchen may be handy for a professional chef, but the average person may not need an industrial hood and indoor pizza oven. When you make excessive improvements, you may not be able to recoup as much of the money spent because your home will not be on par with the values of homes in the neighborhood. DO make sure you can afford the project. Plan for some unexpected purchases and plan out the renovation according to your budget. Skimping on materials or design because of lack of money may leave you feeling dissatisfied afterward.

Say hello to the Scroll Stand.

Getting Started On Spring Cleaning Getting started on spring cleaning can be a tad overwhelming. Establishing a plan and setting reachable goals can make spring cleaning a lot less daunting. Set aside several days for spring cleaning. A long weekend is a great time to do some spring cleaning, as having consecutive days to clean will reduce the chances you grow distracted.

Make a list and purchase all of the supplies you will need. Again, this will help you stay on course, rather than going out to the store to pick up cleaners or organizational systems. www.scrollstand.com

Try to set reasonable goals. Even if you hope to clean the entire house, stick to the one or two rooms that are most desperate for your attention. Divide each task into a series of steps. Create your musical playlist.

A playlist full of your favorite songs can provide some inspiration and energy to push you through the spring cleaning when your enthusiasm starts to wane.. Start from the top and work downward. Begin by dusting away cobwebs and lighting fixtures. Clean light switches and walls. Empty closets and then restock them in a more organized fashion. Leave the furniture and flooring for last, as dirt and dust may accumulate. Be prepared to bid adieu to some of your stuff. Have a few trash bags at the ready. Reorganize items you won’t be keeping into separate piles, with one pile for items you plan to donate and another for those items you will discard. Stay fed and hydrated. Cleaning can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Take breaks for food and water.

Snacks That Promote Better Sleep According to the National Sleep Foundation, changes in sleep patterns are a part of the aging process. Many people experience difficulty falling asleep and then staying asleep as they age, and that difficulty can make men and women over 50 feel more tired during the day. But even though difficulty sleeping may be a part of aging, that does not mean men and women over 50 cannot take steps to improve their sleeping patterns. For example, certain snack foods may help to improve quality of sleep, especially when these foods replace less healthy snacking options. While men and women over 50 should always consult with their physicians before making any changes to their diets, the AARP notes that the following are a handful of snack foods that promote better sleep. Almonds: Magnesium is a mineral with muscle-relaxing properties, and almonds contain enough magnesium to help men and women get a better night’s sleep. A small amount of almonds before bed might be enough to make falling and staying asleep easier. Bananas: Much like almonds, bananas provide a substantial amount of magnesium. Bananas also contain the amino acid tryptophan, which many people associate with Thanksgiving turkey. While tryptophan might be most often associated with the sleepiness people feel after eating a holiday meal, it also has been linked to better sleep quality, so a banana shortly before bed might be just what you need to fall and stay asleep.

Cheese and Crackers: One more traditional snack may just help you get a better night’s sleep. Cheese and crackers contain tryptophan and carbohydrates, which can induce a better night’s sleep and help you fall asleep sooner. Cherries: Cherries contain the sleep hormone melatonin, and the AARP notes that recent studies indicated that participants who drank tart cherry juice on a daily basis fell asleep more quickly and slept longer and better than participants who did not. Hummus: The primary ingredient in hummus is chickpeas, which are loaded with tryptophan, folate and vitamin B6. Folate has proven especially beneficial to older men and women who need help regulating their sleep patterns, while vitamin B6 helps the body regulate its clock. Peanut Butter: Peanut butter is another snacking item loaded with tryptophan. Spread some peanut butter on a carbohydrate, whether it’s a slice of toast or some crackers, before going to bed, and you may enjoy a better, longer sleep. Walnuts: Like cherries, walnuts contain melatonin, which can contribute to a longer, more restful night’s sleep. Walnuts also can help regulate stress, which is a leading cause of sleeping difficulty. Many men and women experience difficulty sleeping as they age. But the right foods may just help combat such problems and help men and women get a more adequate night’s sleep.

Trendy Exercises To Stay Trim & Fit Exercising consistently is a great way to get healthy. For those who find their workout routines monotonous, switching up exercises and embracing some of the newer, trendier fitness regimens may be a way to maintain your momentum at the gym.

High-Intensity Workouts High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, is a concept behind some of today’s most popular exercise programs. HIIT combines cardiovascular and strength-training movements into a concentrated workout designed to keep your heart rate elevated. HIIT workouts blend bouts of intense exercise with either rest or low-intensity activity. These workouts seem to promote faster weight loss than prolonged workouts at moderate paces.

Kettlebells These weighted cast-iron workout tools can be an interesting addition to strength-training workouts. But their utility does not stop there. Using kettlebells during any physical activity will increase the amount of fat burned and can provide a full-body workout. Kettlebells come in different weights, and newcomers are urged to start out gradually and build up in weight as they become more familiar.

Trampoline Cardio For those who want to both shake up their workouts and lift their moods, jumping on a trampoline can do just that. It’s difficult to be in a bad mood when bouncing around like a kid on a trampoline. Trampoline classes are turning up in some upscale gyms, where each participant has his own individual trampoline. Routines mix in different choreography and small hand weights to promote a fun and effective cardio experience.

Water Aerobics Swimming isn’t the only thing you can do in a pool. Water workouts are ideal for those with muscle and joint pain because the buoyancy of the water reduces stress on these areas, while providing enough resistance for a deep workout. Workouts may begin in chest-deep water and progress to deeper water for added resistance.

Dance And Hip-Hop Classes ZUMBA® classes have been popular for quite some time. But many health clubs offer additional classes that employ dance to burn calories and tone muscles. Some gyms have developed their own cardio-based dance classes that get people moving to music.

Travel Tips For Older Adults With Medical Conditions The opportunity to travel is one of the best perks of retirement. But while men and women over 50 may have more time to travel, they also must take more precautions when traveling, thanks in large part to medical conditions: Speak with your healthcare provider before any trips. Whether you are about to embark on an overseas adventure or just spend a couple of weeks visiting your grandchildren, speak to your healthcare provider in advance of your trip. Healthcare providers may recommend certain vaccinations to men and women traveling abroad, and providers also can explain coverage and what to do in case of a medical emergency while away from home. Refill your prescriptions. Men and women who must take medication should refill their prescriptions before traveling away from home. Doing so ensures you will have enough medication to last your trip. When filling a prescription, explain to your pharmacist and/ or physician that you are about to travel and tell them where you will be going. They may recommend you avoid certain foods native to your destination, or they may give you the greenlight to indulge in the local cuisine. Carry a list of your medications and medical conditions with you when traveling. Before

traveling, make a detailed list of the medications you take and why you take them. The list should include dosage and the names, both generic and brand name, of the medications you take. Include any past medical conditions, such as a heart attack, you have had as well. Carry this list with you when traveling. In case of emergency, the list will alert responding medical professionals to any current or past medical conditions you have. Keep medications in their original containers. Some men and women find it easier to remember to take their medications if they transfer pills from their original containers into pill organizers. Such devices can be very convenient at home, but they may create problems when traveling through customs or even on domestic flights. Pills can always be transferred to organizers upon your arrival at your destination; just make sure they are placed back into their original containers before you return home. Drink plenty of water on flights. Airplane cabins can be very dry, which can exacerbate dry mouth that results from taking medication. When boarding a flight, speak to the flight attendant and explain that you need some extra water so you can stay hydrated and avoid irritating dry mouth that may result from your medication. Don’t be afraid to ask the flight attendant for a light snack as well.
