Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto announced that the Town’s outdoor ice skating rinks at Marjorie R. Post and SyossetWoodbury Community Parks have officially opened for the season. “Ice skating is a fun activity for residents of all ages to enjoy, and the Town’s outdoor ice rinks provide the perfect setting to relax, unwind,
and take in the wonderful winter atmosphere,” said Councilman Imbroto. “Our outdoor ice rink facilities are the perfect antidote to combating cabin fever during the winter months, and are the ideal way to help make coping with the cold fun and enjoyable!” Public Skating Sessions are hosted at both outdoor rinks on Fridays from 4pm-6pm

Autism FYI was founded by Dr. James Benjamin and his wife Joyce in 2014 to help advance awareness of the needs surrounding people with Autism. They accomplish this goal of theirs through a safety membership program offered by their organization that is called IRIS, as well as through training that creates community awareness about Autism and allows businesses to become “Autism Friendly Certified”, which allows them to create a more inclusive community for those with Autism.

Whether it was planning a hearty meal, learning about a famous parade or entertaining their families through song, students at Seaford Harbor Elementary School were full of Thanksgiving spirit. Fifth graders in Samantha Mahan’s and Nanci Prefer’s classes used the holiday to improve their math skills. Since they have been learning how to add and subtract decimals, students had to plan a Thanksgiving meal on a budget. Each group could spend $100 for an appetizer, main
course, three sides and two desserts. They used supermarket flyers to compare prices and find the best deals to stretch their money as far as possible. Children then cut out pictures of the items they selected and made plates of their Thanksgiving meals. In Jessica Koudelka’s class, second grades learned about the famed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. They participated in literacy and art activities by reading “Balloons Over Broadway” by Melissa Sweet as well as
a Scholastic News piece about the creation of the balloons, from sketch to final product. Children made their own parade balloon models and wrote postcards to Macy’s about their favorite balloons. On Nov. 24, the day before the break, kindergarten parents were invited to an outdoor musical performance. Students performed several Thanksgiving songs, then showed their parents the holiday placemats they made.

Children’s Coats Drive Help a Child Keep Warm This Winter Youth of Ethical Societies (YES) is collecting children’s coats (used and new) until December 22 to be distributed to children in need through Ethical Friends of Children (EFOC), a volunteer program that has been providing clothing and children’s furniture to Long Island families for 36 years.
Children’s coats, clean and in good condition, should be placed in marked boxes in the shed behind the Ethical Humanist Society of LI building, 38 Old Country Road in Garden City. “Says Anitta Kittai, CEO of YES, “As the weather gets colder it’s important to remember that there are many kids who don’t have the security
