The Salvation Army traditional Red Kettle Holiday Program will begin soon and is in need of volunteers to ring the bells at the Red Kettles, as well as musicians & singers. Many locations are available, including local grocery stores, shopping centers and malls. When volunteers fall short, we hire paid bell ringers at $9 per hour. Table Top Red Kettles are smaller versions can be placed on a retail counter or at your place of work or business. The Salvation Army Angel Tree is a unique way of giving holiday gifts and needed clothing to deserving children on a more personal basis. Angel Tree Tags are placed on a traditional Christmas Tree, usually located at a mall or shopping center. After years of effort to get an access driveway constructed at the trafficclogged Seaford Harbor Elementary School, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano has made a commitment to the residents of Seaford and Seaford School District to provide the necessary funding for the project. The 310-foot access driveway would be constructed on countyowned land running from Bayview Street just north of the school to Ionia Street. The access driveway is expected to be gated at both ends, but would be opened to alleviate traffic and provide an emergency exit if necessary. Currently, the only roadway from the 50-year-old elementary school is heavily congested during morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up times. District officials are awaiting the InterMunicipal Agreement

Thanksgiving Turkey Drive Long Island largest on-site food drive, the 5th Annual Bethpage Turkey Drive to benefit Island Harvest Food Bank, will expand this year to take place in both Nassau & Suffolk Counties. In Nassau, on Friday, November 15th from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., the daylong drive will take place outside of Bethpage’s main branch located at 899 South Oyster Bay Road in Bethpage. In Suffolk, on Saturday, November 23rd, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Stony Brook University will play host to the newly added Suffolk County location, where volunteers will accept donations in the university parking lot just outside of the Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, where the Stony Brook Sea Wolves game against the Albany Great Danes will begin at 1 p.m. Long Islanders are asked to donate frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items or cash donations, which will help Island Harvest supply meals to the over 300,000 hungry Long Islanders in need, including the thousands of Hurricane Sandy victims still facing hardship. “Each year the turkey drive has grown to what is now considered the largest on-site food drive on Long Island and so we are thrilled this year to expand even more by partnering with Stony Brook University to offer a drop off location for Suffolk County residents,” says Linda Armyn, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy, Bethpage.
