Once in the store, there’s the matter of locating which ﬂoor the department you’re seeking is on, which, oddly enough, some employees don’t even seem to have a handle on. So

to the purpose of my mission – actually pinpointing something I like, finding it in my size and then, assuming steps 1 & 2 go as planned, crossing my fingers that said “perfect” dress is somewhat affordable. Sound simple? Let’s just say my last dress shopping mission, which I began precisely two weeks before the date I needed it, has so far encompassed two different malls, several department stores and random dress shops and resulted in my purchasing two different selections, neither of which I am completely sold on. Uniting Against Bullying

Seaford Middle School was a sea of orange, October 22nd, as students and staff joined thousands across the country to take a stand against bullying by supporting Unity Day. The movement, sponsored by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, aims to heighten awareness and break down barriers to promote more positive, prosocial climates. “The students embraced the day,” said Nancy Fitzgerald, Seaford Middle School social worker and coordinator of the event. “You couldn’t help but think about this movement. The school was ﬂooded in orange.” Students marked the day by celebrating ways to rise above bullying and make their school a positive, welcoming environment for all students. In the cafeteria, orange and white helium balloons hung in the air, orange tablecloths donned the tables, and a huge banner that said, “Thumbs Up to Being an Upstander” (someone who takes action to prevent bullying) spanned high across a wall. Below it, students, wearing orange shirts and bracelets that said “Be An Upstander,” lined up to put their thumbprint on a poster as a symbol of unity and support. Students and staff, along with parents and community members, continued the

conversation that evening when they came together for a Community Read to discuss the bullying prevention themes in the book, Bystander by James Preller. The event, coordinated by teacher Jeff

Cronin, reinforced messages of being good to each other and spreading kindness, which are hoped to be carried out by the student body throughout the school year.
