The Charity of the Month for October is
Long Island Coalition for the Homeless www.addessthehomeless.org Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH) was founded in 1985. Their mission is to end homelessness on Long Island and alleviate the issues associated with homelessness and poverty for homeless and at risk persons in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. LICH runs a local Boutique that gives people in need a chance to come and pick out clothes and other essential items, all for free. With the help of generous people, they collect items year-round for people experiencing homelessness.
They are currently looking for volunteers who are organized, fun and dedicated to sort and display items at the Boutique. Even giving just a few hours of your time can be a huge help. Additionally, they are in need of various donations. The most needed items are baby diapers, formula and wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products, plus-size clothing, school supplies (especially binders, dividers and spiral notebooks), along with non-perishable food items. They are also looking for new and gently used housewares.
The Community Garden program also incorporates the preparation of healthy meals made from organic ingredients. Members also learn to cook and enjoy various new dishes. The garden planning and planting happens from JanuaryNovember, so now is a great time to learn and get involved before you can get busy planning and planting! Garden Club. Their Garden Club holds meetings, where members decide what to plant and grow, while learning about various aspects of organic gardening. Anyone who is interested in gardening is welcomed by this Garden Club to volunteer with them. The Great Jack-O’-Lantern Sail at Belmont Lake State Park The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the 8th Annual Great Jack-o’Lantern Sail on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Belmont Lake State Park. Festivities begin at 3:00PM; the Jack-o’-Lanterns will set sail at approximately 6:15PM. Everyone is welcome to join this spooky celebration! Town Clerk LaMarca Announces Special One-Stop Passport Weekend
To help residents looking to obtain new passports, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca announced that his office will offer a special onestop Passport Weekend on Saturday, October 23rd and Sunday, October 24th from 9am to 3pm at both Town Hall North in Oyster Bay and Town Hall South in Massapequa. “Residents looking to apply for a new passport are invited to visit Town Hall during Passport Weekend to receive free assistance in preparing their application,” said Town Clerk LaMarca. “We can help you with organizing your documents, obtaining a photo and submitting the documents for approval.” Requirements for applying for a passport
include: One 2x2 color photograph with a clear view of the applicant’s face against a plain white or light colored background. Photos will also be available for $10 at both Town Halls North and South during Passport Weekend. Proof of U.S. Citizenship – Previously issued undamaged U.S. passport, certified birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth, Naturalization Certificate, or Certificate of Citizenship. Proof of Identity – Naturalization Certificate, Valid Driver’s License (cannot have been issued or renewed in the last six months), Current Government ID (city, state or federal), Current
Military ID (military and dependents). Town Clerk LaMarca has offices located at Town Hall North, 54 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay and Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road in Massapequa.
