Licenses are nontransferable and in the event of a change in ownership of any dog, all licenses must be updated within 10 days of such change. Licensed dogs must wear an identification tag, affixed to its collar, provided by the Town Clerks office at the time of licensing. To obtain an application for a dog license, please

With a large number of new adoptions taking place as COVID-19 impacted our region in March, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca today invited residents who have not done so already to utilize the Town Clerk’s Office to properly license their dog. In the Town of Oyster Bay, once a dog reaches four months of age, the owner is required by Town Code to obtain a dog license and verification tag. Licenses are valid for one year. Town Clerk LaMarca stated, “With the unfolding of the COVID-19 pandemic over the last 6 months, there have been reports of large increases in the adoption rates of pets for companionship, especially dogs. If you have recently adopted a dog, now is the time to license it to ensure its safety and identification in case it gets lost! Each year, hundreds of beloved family dogs are lost because these animals do not have identification tags and cannot be identified and returned to their owners. A dog license allows everyone to know your dog has a home, and also signals that your dog is up-to-date on its rabies shot. To put it simply: if you love your dog, license it! This simple act can only serve to protect our furry friends.” Dog licenses are issued to dogs four months of age or older for a 12 month period. The license must be renewed annually, and in order to license your dog, dog owners must provide the following minimum information: • Name, residence address and phone number of owner sex, • Name, approximate age, breed, color, markings and other identifying details of the dog • State whether or not the dog has been spayed or neutered • Proof of a valid rabies vaccination

The West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition
For Long Island, Inc.
The West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition for Long Island, Inc. (WIBCC) is a non-profit grassroots organization that was founded in 1992. They work to eradicate Breast Cancer and gynecological cancers. Their mission is to provide support services to women undergoing treatment and requiring postmastectomy care with their “Lead A Helping Hand” program, and to actively promote cancer and environmental awareness with education, advocacy and outreach throughout the community. To accomplish their mission, they focus on prevention, research, education, services, their Lend a Helping Hand program and awareness.
As like many other non-profit organizations, WIBCC holds various fundraising events throughout the year to gain awareness and collect funds in support of their mission. This September they are part of Stop & Shop’s Community Bag Program. WIBCC will receive a $1 donation every time a $2.50 reusable Community Bag is purchased at 400 Union Blvd in West Islip, unless otherwise directed by the customer through the Giving Tag attached to the bag. Additionally, they are participating in John’s Crazy Socks Giving Back Program, which started September 1st and will run through October 31st. John’s Crazy Socks is a fatherson social enterprise that was inspired by John Lee Cronin, a young man with Down Syndrome and his love of colorful and fun socks, or what he calls his “crazy socks”. John’s Crazy Socks has agreed to donate 10% of their net sales to WIBCC for every pair of socks purchased from their website, www. johnscrazysocks.com, when you enter the
charity code FG-WIBCC20.
Next month they will present Pink Flags of October, a month-long event to honor and remember those affected by Breast Cancer. Hundreds of pink flags will be placed at the entrance of Good Samaritan Hospital. You have the opportunity to purchase a ribbon in honor of or in memory of someone whose life has been affected by Breast Cancer. These ribbons will be tied to the flags and together the flags and ribbons will fly for the entire month of October. On Sunday, September 27 from 12-2PM at The Cancer Institute (111 Beach Drive in West Islip), there will be a ceremony to celebrate this month-long event, which will include health information, light refreshments and more. If you purchase a ribbon, you can attend the event and place the name of whom it is in honor of or in memory of right on the ribbon itself. If you cannot attend, it will be placed for you. If you would simply like to make a donation directly to this coalition, you can securely do so online at www.wibcc.org. Town Beaches and Spray Park to Remain Open Weekends Throughout September

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently announced the extension of the summer season at Town beaches throughout the month of September. TOBAY Beach will remain open weekends throughout September, and will be staffed with lifeguards so patrons can continue to take
advantage of the nice weather and swim in the ocean. Additionally, all North Shore Beaches will remain open on the weekends, but will not be open for swimming, as no lifeguards will be on duty. These beaches will continue to be resident only this season, as part of restrictions put into place due to the coronavirus.
Supervisor Saladino stated, “I am pleased to announce that the summer beach season in the Town of Oyster Bay just got extended for one full month! I know this has been a tough year for many of us here in the Town as the public health crisis of COVID-19 peaked here in New York during the spring
and still continues to effect us today. So what better way to make up for the time we lost when we were advised to stay inside than by taking advantage of the remaining beautiful weather this month, and continuing to patronize Town beaches in a safe, responsible, and socially distant manner!” As part of the extension
of the summer beach season, TOBAY Beach will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the month of September, with lifeguards manning stands and protecting residents in the ocean each of these days. Additionally, the spray park at TOBAY Beach will be remain open each of these days as
well for families with young children to take advantage of. Town beaches on the North Shore will also remain open throughout the weekends of September, but swimming will not be permitted at these locations, as no lifeguards will be on duty.

DIY Projects That Can Conserve Energy Around The House Home renovation projects can pay numerous dividends. Renovations can have a positive effect on resale value, make homes more livable for residents and, in some ways, make homes more affordable. Renovation projects that aim to conserve energy can save homeowners substantial amounts of money. Such projects don’t often require considerable effort or even sizable financial investments, which can make homeowners skeptical as to just how much they can save after completing the project. But the scale of a project may have little to do with how much homeowners will save. For example, the U.S. Department of Energy notes that a relatively effortless task like turning back a thermostat between 7° and 10° F for eight hours per day can save homeowners as much as $83 per year. A more labor-intensive task like planting shade trees saves homeowners an average of between $35 and $119 per year. When looking for ways to conserve energy around the house and save money, homeowners need not necessarily commit to expensive projects. The DOE notes that the following are some energy-saving projects and details what homeowners can expect to save after completing them. While each individual project may not result in jaw-dropping savings, homeowners who follow many of these recommendations may end up saving more than $1,000 per year.

Shady areas of a roof can be susceptible to the growth of moss and fungi because moisture can be trapped in such areas. keep an eye on areas of their roofs that get little sunlight. In addition, trapped moisture can be very harmful to a roof, so it may be wise to exercise caution and have roofs with mold or fungi growths inspected. • Age: Another indicator of roof trouble may be the age of the roof. Even if there are no visible signs of damage, homeowners whose roofs have some years under their belt may want to consider replacing them. Asphalt shingle roofs typically have life expectancies of 20 to 25 years, while roofs installed over existing layers of shingles may need to be replaced after 20 years. Imbroto Announces Return of Recreational Badminton Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto invites residents to take part in Fall Co-Ed Recreational Programs for badminton, beginning the first week of October 2020 at the Hicksville Athletic Center. Registration for this program is ongoing at
the Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 Broadway in Hicksville. Councilman Imbroto stated, “To protect your health, extra precautions and safety protocols have been put in place to make sure that this exciting Badminton program can return safely and
provide our residents with a great outlet for physical fitness.” Badminton will feature two sessions available for registrants to choose from. Session 1 will be held Tuesdays from 8:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Fridays from 8:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; and Sundays from 7:00 p.m.
