The foundation has a committee that meets on a monthly basis to review new applications and they determine the eligibility of the applicants and wish requests. If approved, the foundation will grant the wish as funding and resources become available (if they are not already available). Jackie, a local Long Islander, was nominated to be a wish recipient by her friend at work. Jackie works at Walmart and would walk to work and assist residents at her local nursing home while she wasn’t working. Her friends wanted to make it easier for her to get around. After the wish was received, James Ciervo and Barbara Ransom of the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce helped get Jackie a beautiful bicycle. They brought the bicycle to her workplace and the smile on her face was ear to ear! This foundation is presently looking for more wish applicants in the Long Island area. The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the foundation’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. This organization truly makes a difference in the lives of seniors nationwide. Often the elderly gets overlooked or they simply can’t seem to achieve their goals on their own. This is where Twilight Wish steps in. Although their headquarters are located in Pennsylvania, the foundation has chapters located around the nation. James Ciervo, who devoted much of his life to helping seniors, created their Long Island Chapter 15 years ago. His career was in the senior health care industry for many years and he continues to help seniors through the Twilight Wish Foundation today. The process of applying to be a wish recipient is fairly simple. You can visit their website at www.twilightwish.org and click on the “Wishes” tab followed by “Request A Twilight Wish”. From here you can start the process. Applications can be submitted for yourself or on behalf of someone else. The recipient of the wish must be 65 years of age or older (or a permanent resident of an eldercare facility), a legal US citizen, have an annual income of less than 200% of current federal government published poverty level income, or be unable to grant your own wish (not including financial reasons), have a history of giving back to others, be cognitively and physically capable of communicating and

Volunteers numbered 130+ were an invaluable asset to a very busy department. Music, Science, Art, Live Animals and Clowns all added up to a lively good time in the Children’s Room. Thanks to all who participated and helped to make it a great summer! Teens: This summer the Teen Department had almost 60 teens signed up for the Summer Reading Club. Our teens were busy enjoying a variety of programs such as the yummy S’more Sushi, where teens made sushi with chocolate, marshmallows, and graham cracker crumbs. The Seaford Public Library is very pleased to announce the success of the Summer Reading Clubs for children, teens and adults this past summer. The theme of the Children and Teens’ Summer Reading Club was “Universe of Stories.” Adult: This year the Adult Department held its second Adult Summer Reading Club at the library. With an outstanding number of over 120 adults that participated, each individual was able read any book of their choice and earn a raffle ticket for each review they hand in to put towards any of the grand prizes they wish to win. On August 19th, 2019, the Reading Club ended the summer by raffling off a total of 3 Grand Prizes including a Gourmet Basket donated by the Amish Market in Tribeca and two Grand Prizes that were generously donated by the Friends of the Library, the Amazon Echo Show and a Fitbit Flex Inspire.
