Helping Hand Rescue Mission(HHRM) is a local non-proﬁt organization that is based in Huntington, but serves people all over our island. Their mission is to improve the spiritual and temporal conditions of the children, families and people of the communities they serve by providing excellent service to all who come, whether they be rich or poor, high or low social status. They are here to love, to serve and to give.

How does it work? You register online for a time slot. Then you neatly pack your car with the items you would like to share with the community, such as clothing, toys, household items, unexpired nonperishable food and any other items in good/new condition. Clothing must not be ripped, torn, or stained, missing buttons, or broken zippers. If you would like to give gift cards to families you may, but they ask that no cash is given. Also, no large electronics or furniture please.

ANNUAL 6TH BATTALION PARADE - On Saturday, August 28, 2021, the Seaford Fire Department hosted the Annual 6th Battalion Parade. The lineup took place at the parking lot of the Seaford train station located on Jackson Avenue, and proceeded down to the firehouse. Due to the rain, the parade didn’t start until 6:30 PM.

The Great Jack O’lantern Blaze To Return To Old Bethpage Village Event To Give A Boost To The Local Economy & Provide Residents And Visitors With Unique Experience

New Teachers Receive A Warm Welcome

Fifteen new members of the Seaford School District’s teaching staff were introduced to the place that they could call home for the next few decades. New teacher orientation was held on Aug. 26 and 27 at Seaford High School. The new staff includes teachers and specialists at the high school, middle school and Harbor and Manor elementary schools. They will be teaching art, business, science, special education, technology, world languages and

more. They include guidance counselors and psychologists to support the mental well-being of students. Deputy Superintendent John Striffolino welcomed them to Seaford during breakfast in the high school library. Each teacher introduced himself of herself by sharing something unique, such as hobby or special talent. The first-year faculty members learned about Seaford’s educational programs and digital resources. They also had an informational session with United Teachers of Seaford before closing out the two-day program by spending time at their home schools on Friday afternoon and getting to know their building administrators.

Teaching Teamwork Through Fun And Games

Communication and cooperation were necessary for success at a teambuilding workshop for Seaford Middle School and High School students on Aug. 19, “Fizz-Ed Fun: Can You Rise to the Top?” It was the sixth workshop in the eight-session Secondary Summer Experience program, which is being funded through federal grant money. Held outdoors at the high school, participants were divided into the orange, purple and white teams

and played games that showed them how to work together. The workshop was led by high school physical education and health teacher Stephanie Bartkus and her middle school counterpart Krista Ancona. In floating hula hoops, each team had to work together to lower a hula hoop to the ground, holding it only with their pointer fingers. Sky ball was similar to volleyball but instead of using their arms, students had to use

large rubber balls. Teams tried to score into a net in tchoukball, but the caveat was they could only make three passes. There was also a tic-tac-toe relay and a blindfolded obstacle course. Ms. Bartkus said that as part of the experience in learning how to communicate with others, teams were made up of students who didn’t know each other well. The games also helped them find their voices and step up as leaders.

Free Animal Adoptions Throughout September Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino has announced that the Town’s Animal Shelter will waive adoption fees throughout the month of September. “I invite and encourage residents looking for a new pet to check in with the Town’s Animal Shelter during the month of September, as general adoption fees will be waived. Our shelter staff has a wonderful reputation for providing great care to the pets housed there, and has a long history of uniting those looking for the perfect new furry companion,” Supervisor Saladino stated. During the month of

September, the shelter will waive the general adoption fees of $80 per dog and $84 per cat. All usual adoption services will be provided, including the spaying or neutering of the animal, vaccination and microchipping. Residents interested in viewing the animals available for adoption can call the shelter to make an appointment, or visit www. oysterbaytown.com. In addition to free adoption month, the Town will be hosting a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic at the Animal Shelter on September 11th from 10 am to 2 pm. offering to microchip pets for $25. If a pet is ever lost, they can be taken to a vet clinic or animal shelter where they will be scanned for a microchip ID and returned to their rightful owner. The Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter is located at 150 Miller Place in Syosset. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Residents interested in visiting the shelter can call to make an appointment. The Museum of American Armor’s “The Road to Victory” program will be held on Saturday, September 18th and Sunday, September 19th inside Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, N.Y., featuring many of the operational military vehicles in the Armor Museum’s collection. An additional donation offers families a unique opportunity to ride inside a Half Track, Command Car, or troop transport. The gates to Old Bethpage Village Restoration will be
