All one hundred and three (103) windows throughout the building will be replaced with much more efficient ones which will result in decreased energy costs. The two Emergency Exit Doors on the Lower Level and the Side Entrance Door on the Main Level will be replaced. The last time the windows were renovated was over 25 years ago. The New York State Aid for Library Construction Program will be providing $200,000 towards the cost of this sorely needed project. This project was competitively bid in full compliance with New York State Law. The Library apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause. However, the health and safety of our residents and professional staff is of the utmost importance.

and respects our senior population. Twilight Wish recipients report that having their wish granted impacted their life for the better. Their mental and physical health often improved, positively changing their outlook on life! The wishes that this organization grants truly changes the way that our society views aging, as it witnesses seniors living life to the fullest. By sharing their recipients’ stories, they inspire both older and younger generations and help bring about a cultural shift in how aging is perceived in our society. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,000 wishes throughout our country, ranging from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. This Foundation has expanded throughout America and they currently have 17 chapters. The majority of their chapter directors and chapter volunteers have full-time jobs, but volunteer their time because they believe so much in the impact Twilight Wish has on our senior population. They are presently looking to expand their outreach to seniors by making our business and community leaders/charitable organizations aware of who they are. There are many ways that you can get involved with this great organization. Stay tuned for next week’s article to learn some of the ways how. The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight W i s h celebrations. Senior citizens are the fastest growing population in the world. The number of Americans who are 65 and older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060. In the United States today, 1 in 3 seniors older than 65 live alone and the number of seniors living alone only increases with age. Many of these seniors experience social isolation, which can lead to undesirable conditions. Granting a Twilight Wish can help change that! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. Sometimes a wish fulfills an immediate need, and sometimes it is a last wish or lifetime dream. Large or small, all wishes provide a meaningful “thank you” to the senior for a lifetime of service to others. Every wish they grant helps build a culture that values

Seaford 101 For New Teachers
More than a dozen new teachers are joining the Seaford School District this year, and they received a warm welcome at an orientation program on Aug. 23. They will be teaching a variety of subjects and grade levels at the district’s four schools. Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Personnel John Striffolino met with the new teachers to review district policies and procedures including communication with
parents, emotional support for students and security protocols. He also discussed the Habits of Mind philosophy and how those 16 habits are incorporated into daily life in Seaford schools. Teachers learned about instructional technology resources from Executive Director for Instructional Technology and STEM Thomas Lynch and Director of Technology Fred Kaden, and also met with their building principals.
“It’s a great group of teachers and they are filled with energy and excitement,” Mr. Striffolino said. “We’re very excited to welcome them to our educational family.” One of the highlights of orientation was a bus tour around the district. That included a stop at the Seaford Historical Society museum, where teachers learned about the community’s history from retired Seaford High School teacher Steve Bongiovi.

This year marks the 25 year anniversary for American Black Belt Academy, located at 4875 Merrick Road in Massapequa. There are important changes to the school tax relief program that every homeowner should know.
NY STATE STAR PROGRAM
Changes To The Star Program! • If you own your own home, it’s your primary residence, and your income is $500,000 or less, you are eligible for the Basic STAR Program. • If your income is greater than $250,000 and less than or equal to $500,000, you will receive a check for the STAR credit instead of a reduction on your school tax bill. • If your income is $250,000 or less and you are currently receiving the STAR exemption (a direct reduction on your school tax bill in the form of a property tax exemption), you can choose to register for the STAR credit to receive a check instead. • The STAR exemption program is now closed to new applicants. New applicants can only register for the STAR credit. • Homeowners with income greater than $250,000 and less than or equal to $500,000 who currently receive the STAR exemption need not take any additional action to start receiving the STAR credit in the form of a check. • If your income is $250,000 or less and currently receive the STAR exemption but want to receive the STAR credit instead, you have to register with the NY State Department of Taxation and Finance to make the switch. • The taxing authority is giving homeowners an incentive to switch to the STAR credit. STAR credits may increase as much as 2% each year, but the value of the STAR exemption savings cannot increase. • Enhanced STAR is provided to homeowners age 65 and older for their primary residence if their income is $86,300 or less for the 2019-2020 school year. • Enhanced STAR recipients are now required to enroll in the Income Verification Program (IVP). • Homeowners need not register every year for the STAR Program. Once registered, they are automatically reviewed for eligibility each year.
