The workshop concluded with a simulation of a medical emergency, in which students implemented the strategies they learned in the class. “It’s a life skill,” Mr. Spreckels said of being able to save a life, noting that his goal was to empower students to take action, with confidence, in a crisis. The county has made about 8.5 acres of land available for them, which their railroad operates on. In fulﬁllment of the public trust use of park land, Long Island Live Steamers hosts visitor rides on our Public Run Days typically scheduled for the second and last Sundays of each month from the middle of May through the end of October. The hours of operation during a public run day are 10:30AM-3PM. There is no charge for rides on Run Days, however they accept donations of any size. Their operation is solely funded by donations. Although thousands of visitors enjoy visiting and riding on their railroad every year, most Long Islanders have either never heard of this organization, or if they have, have yet to visit them on one of their Public Run Days. Long Island Live Steamers may well be the best kept secret on Long Island. Almost everything you will see, ride on, or otherwise enjoy during your visit to Long Island Live Steamers was built, delivered, installed and maintained by their members.

Besides their ground track, they also have a dual gauge high line which features an elevated track, which runs through the forest. Rider Rules: For the Ground Line track, kids must be able to walk on their own in order to ride. For The high line track, riders must be at least 40” Tall to ride. Looking to host a birthday party at LI Live Steamers? You can! Reservations must be made to reserve a birthday party with the LI Live Steamers, however there is no limit to how many people can attend. Attendees can bring their own food and/ or cake (pizza parties are popular) and the organization provides picnic tables, that when sitting at you will have a great view of the action as multiple trains pass by! Beneﬁts Of Volunteering Volunteering is a great way for individuals to strengthen their communities, but it also can be a unique way for individuals to improve their own overall happiness. A 2020 study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies examined 70,000 participants, each of whom received

surveys that asked questions regarding their volunteering habits and mental health.The study found that, when compared to those who did not volunteer, people who had volunteered in the previous 12 months were more satisfied with their lives and gave their overall health higher ratings.

The frequency of giving back to one’s community also may affect just how much volunteering affects mental health. Study participants who volunteered at least once per month rated their mental health even higher than those who volunteered but did so infrequently.

Sign-up to Swim, Bike and Run at Hempstead Town’s Annual Beachside Triathlon Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and the Town Board invite members of the public to register for the annual Town of Hempstead Triathlon. The triathlon is scheduled for September 25, 2021 at 8AM and will be held at Town Park Point Lookout, located at 1300 Lido Boulevard, Lido Beach, along the township’s south shore. The roughly 14-mile signature athletic event will allow participants to enjoy the beautiful coastal environs of America’s largest township while competing to be the first-place finisher in the widely acclaimed competition. “The Town of Hempstead Triathlon is an amazing opportunity for fitness enthusiasts to enjoy our township’s beautiful south shore while competing in this three part competition,” said Clavin. “I encourage all who wish to try their hand at completing this challenging feat to

register now and join in on the fun.” The Town of Hempstead Triathlon, which comprises three separate events, will challenge participants during the roughly 14-mile course. The 3/4-mile ocean swim, 10-mile bike ride and 3-mile run will allow competitors to traverse scenic sections of the township’s coastline and travel through the quaint streets of Point Lookout as they seek to set records during this year’s competition. In addition to seeking the coveted first place finish spot, triathlon participants will be competing for awards based on age.
