The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that seasonal boat slips at the Robert Moses State Park East Marina are available for rent. Interested boaters can obtain an application to reserve a slip by visiting the Robert Moses State Park Office. The Robert Moses State Park East Marina has forty (40) boat slips, which are available from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. East Marina Seasonal slips will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and will be assigned by Robert Moses State Park. In the event the marina has reached capacity, you will be placed on the wait

list. A seasonal boat slip costs $50 per foot. Slips can accommodate vessels up to 40 feet long with a maximum beam of 14 feet. Each slip has potable water, two cleats, and electric hook-up. The power source is 50 amps (50/125). Boaters must supply their own ropes, adapters, and extension cords. Each slip includes one vehicle parking permit. No overnight visitor parking will be permitted. Boaters who rent a slip during the 2022 season will automatically be renewed for the 2023 season. “Entertainment for a Summer Evening” at the Seaford Public Library Summer 2022 The Seaford Public Library takes great pride in presenting its Summer 2022 “Entertainment for a Summer Evening,” our very popular series of outdoor concerts. In addition to this, we have brought back our night time Outdoor Movie. All concerts are in partnership with the Lions Club of Seaford, the Seaford Chamber of Commerce, the Seaford Wellness Council and the Seaford Knights of Columbus Memorare Council #3476. The speeds and heights of CSI 5* competitions in general make for a narrow aperture of what is acceptable, even in the best of conditions. CSI 5* competitions may be held in the rain, yet still demand 5* levels of performance. Longines is the Official Timekeeper for the Hampton Classic which will also be adding new divisions such as Low Adult and Children’s Jumpers, Low Adult and Children’s Hunters and 3’6” High Performance Hunters. Hampton Classic Horse Show To Host FEI CSI 5* And 2* Competitions

The Hampton Classic Horse Show, one of the country’s most prestigious hunter-jumper horse shows, will unveil new state-of-the-art all-weather footing in its Grand Prix Ring and a new schedule with FEI CSI 5* and 2* competitions when it returns for its 46th edition, August 28-September 4. The new CSI 5* status means an increase in prize money to more than $1 million, with $410,000 for the Classic’s featured Hampton Classic Grand Prix on Sunday, September 4. Families without accommodation near a hospital can endure long drives, lost jobs, worried siblings left at home and for some, no place to sleep. They’re far from family and friends who give them support. However, Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) New York Metro, a 501c3 non-proﬁt organization, keeps families seeking medical treatment for their sick children near the care they need and the families they love.

RMHC New York Metro runs a variety of programs, dating back to 1986 when the 42-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park opened. Located immediately adjacent to the Cohen Children’s Hospital, providing the comforts of a home and compassionate care that meet the unique needs of families with sick children. The organization also operates a Family Room at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which gives temporary respite to families who would otherwise spend hours and even days at their children’s bedside. The corresponding Hospitality Cart, staffed by volunteers, brings refreshments and joy to the hospital rooms of children receiving hospital

RMHC New York Metro thrives on the participation of its volunteers from across Long Island to help families focus on what is most important: the health and well-being of their children. These children and families rely on the support of volunteers to make their days easier, and volunteers contribute to a variety of meaningful and important activities every day. Volunteers also bring joy to families through the Family Room program, opened in 2013 and serving 3,500 families every year, as well as their Meals from the Heart and Treats from the Heart Programs, which invites individuals into the kitchen at the Ronald McDonald House to cook a homemade meal and delicious desserts for families. With the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season that began June 1st, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board urge all residents to update or develop their Family Emergency Plan, Emergency Go-Kit and Family & Friends Sheltering Plan. “Superstorm Sandy taught us that we are vulnerable to the Atlantic Ocean and susceptible to the powerful and destructive nature of hurricanes and storms,” said Supervisor Saladino. “It’s critical that residents be prepared for hurricane season and take all storm warnings seriously. Be prepared, not scared!” The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June to November, with peak season from mid-August to late October. The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s Climate Prediction Center is predicting above-average hurricane activity this year, and forecasting a likely range of 14 to 21 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 6 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). NOAA provides these ranges with a 70% confidence. An updated and accurate Family Emergency Plan is a key component to planning for Hurricane Season. The unique needs of family members, such as the elderly, infants, those with access and functional needs and any pets should be considered. Residents should inquire about what plans are in place at work and schools in case of emergency. After all of the information is collected, gather your family to discuss how the plan works. Practice your plan at least twice a year and update it according to any issues that arise.

Residents are encouraged to join the Town of Oyster Bay’s SWIFT 911 Emergency Notification System, which is in place to reach residents quickly with information regarding upcoming weather events and any other emergency situations. Residents should assembly an Emergency Go-Kit, keep it by their front door in a duffel bag and include enough supplies for everyone in the household for five days, including: First aid kit. Pack a “how to” guide as well. Essential prescription and nonprescription items and medical information. Battery-powered flashlight and radio (or crank radio), extra batteries and a 12-hour glow stick. A change of clothes, plus rainwear, sturdy shoes and protective gloves for everyone. Personal items, eyeglasses and personal care items. Important documents in a waterproof container: drivers’ licenses, wills, birth/marriage certificates, insurance policies, deed or lease papers, recent tax returns, credit card and bank account numbers, Social Security cards, Passport and home inventory list. Make sure you have special items for infants, elderly persons, pets or loved ones with special needs. Residents can also safeguard their pets by preparing a Pet Go-Kit, which should include:

Your pets’ names, address and phone number. Your name, address, phone and cell number. Emergency contact friend or family. Your veterinarian’s name and contact info. Important documents. Medical records. Medications with specific care instructions and behavioral problems. First Aid kit. Current photos. Sturdy leash, collar or harness, muzzles. Paper towels for cleanup. Food and bottled water (three-day supply). Manual can opener and bowls. Water purification tablets. Toys and other comfort items. Treats, brushes and combs. Newspapers and plastic bags. Residents should develop a Family & Friends Sheltering Plan in the event they are asked to evacuate their home. If you are advised to evacuate, here’s what to do: A Family & Friends Sheltering Plan is recommended for anyone who resides in south of Sunrise Highway or north of Route 25A. You should contact a friend or family member that lives outside the zone & make arrangements as this provides the most comfortable way to weather a severe storm. Bring your Emergency Go-Kit. Turn off all utilities. Take your most reliable vehicle and avoid taking multiple vehicles that create gridlock. Residents know all too well the threats posed by Hurricane Season. The American Heart Association Provides 10 Tips To Keep Your Family Happy And Healthy This Summer Summer can bring many happy memories – family vacations, summer camp, days at the shore, staying up late and watching the sun set. No matter what your summer traditions include, be sure to keep in mind your heart and brain health throughout the longer daylight hours. According to the American Heart Association

heart disease and stroke remain the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the U.S., yet a majority of these diseases are preventable with simple lifestyle modifications, such as healthy eating and regular exercise. “Summer is the perfect time to enjoy heart-healthy seasonal produce and to add physical activity to

your daily routine,” said Pilar Stevens-Haynes, MD, FACC Clinical and NonInvasive Cardiologist at Mount Sinai South Nassau. “But remember to take precautions when spending time by the water and when exercising in the heat.” Here are the American Heart Association’s top 10 tips for a heart-healthy summer:

1. Learn Hands-Only CPR. Days by the pool and ocean can be fun, but always be prepared for the unthinkable. Hands-Only CPR has only two steps: If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse, 1) Call 9-1-1, and 2) Press hard and fast in the center of the chest. View a short video by visiting www.heart.org/ handsonlycpr. 2. Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids (preferably water) throughout the day and before, during and after working out to maintain salt-water balance. Avoid caffeine and alcoholic beverages. 3. Exercise smarter, not harder. Plan your workout for the cooler parts of the day – either early morning or early evening when the sun’s radiation is at its least. If you must exercise during the hottest part of the day or in high humidity, decrease exercise intensity and duration. And remember, you can get a great workout indoors by going to a gym or walking at the mall. 4. Dress the part. Wear minimal amounts of clothing that allow for quick evaporation of sweat. Choose lightweight, lightcolored and breathable fabrics, such as cotton. 5. Choose Fresh Veggies. Take advantage of fresh seasonal veggies. Load up skewers with mushrooms, peppers, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash or

other veggies. Spray lightly with olive oil cooking spray and grill until lightly blackened. 6. Pack to play. When taking a family road trip, plan to incorporate regular physical activity into your daily routine. Pack a football, soccer ball, Frisbee or paddle ball so that you can be physically active while away. 7. Enjoy fruit pops. Homemade freezer pops are an easy, fun treat for kids to make and enjoy. Mash up fruit like peaches, grapes, berries or watermelon and put into paper cups, insert a popsicle stick and freeze overnight. 8. Protect yourself from the sun. Wear widebrimmed hats, always apply water-resistant sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. 9. Head indoors. When the heat gets unbearable, try indoor activities at your local YMCA or rec center like basketball, swimming, yoga or racquetball. 10. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms of heat exhaustion: • headaches • heavy sweating • cold, moist skin, chills • dizziness or fainting • a weak and rapid pulse • muscle cramps • fast, shallow breathing • nausea, vomiting or both

If you experience these symptoms, move to a cooler place, stop exercising and cool down immediately by dousing yourself with cold water and rehydrating. You may need to seek medical attention. Symptoms of heat stroke: • warm, dry skin with no sweating • strong and rapid pulse • confusion and/or unconsciousness • high fever • throbbing headaches • nausea, vomiting or both If you experience these symptoms, seek medical attention right away. the end of September, collection drives will be set up at several Stop & Shop supermarkets across Long Island, where community members can donate non-perishable food and essential care items. This year’s goal is to collect the equivalent of 30,000 healthy, nutritious meals for Long Island families struggling to put food on their tables. This goal recognizes Island Harvest’s 30th anniversary this year. “We are kicking off our second annual Power to Feed Long Island campaign with Island Harvest and Stop & Shop because hundreds of thousands of our neighbors still need our help,” said David Lyons, interim president and COO, PSEG Long Island. “Last year, PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island created a venue for Long Islanders to help fight food insecurity, and they responded with bags, carts and trunks filled with thousands of pounds of food for their neighbors. Thanks to their generosity, we exceeded our 21,000meal goal in 2021. This year, we are proud to donate and we encourage everyone

to continue to be part of the solution, because there is still hunger in every ZIP code. This initiative is just one of the many ways PSEG Long Island and our employees support our communities.” Hundreds of thousands of Long Island families struggle with hunger and food insecurity throughout the year. During the summer months, there is a significant reduction in food donations to local food banks, pantries and programs. Compounding the issue, children are not in school where they can receive free and reducedcost breakfast and lunch. In addition, the pandemic and increased inflation rate have further strained local food pantries and emergency feeding programs served by Island Harvest. Over the past two and a half years, the pandemic has put a significant strain on the supplemental food supply chain. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand joined with Girl Scouts of Nassau County CEO Rande Bynum to honor Girl Scouts who have achieved their Gold Award. “We are so proud to honor such distinguished young women. The Gold Award acknowledges the power behind each Girl Scout’s dedication to not only bettering herself but committing to make the world a better place for others,” said Supervisor Saladino. “These girls identified needs in their communities and took dedicated action to address them. We are so proud to honor Girl Scouts who have achieved the most prestigious award in scouting.” 2022 Girl Scout Gold Award Honorees Include: SARA HUGHES of Farmingdale To earn her Gold Award, Sara started a Zumba fit club at her high school. She developed this club in order to address the lack of fitness clubs offered in her school, and to find a solution to social isolation experienced by many students during lockdown. While promoting exercise in a fun and engaging way, Sara educated students about the physical, mental and social benefits of Zumba while also leading workshops for schools, teachers and Girl Scout troops. The Zumba Fit Club will be carried on through Sara’s school as it was approved by the school’s administration. DANIELLE GALARDI of Seaford Post COVID-19, mental health concerns amongst teens and young adults are on the rise. Through Danielle’s project, “You Are Not Alone in this World,” Danielle took on the challenge of bringing Mental Health Awareness initiatives to these students. To prevent stigma around mental health, she created

a presentation to educate her community on the importance of mental health and emotional wellbeing while also developing a resource guide that was shared with her school’s psychologist to assist students. Danielle’s high school psychology teacher implemented her message into his curriculum. AVA FIORELLO of Massapequa Ava’s project, “Chess and Unwind” provides a safe environment for people of all ages to play a healthy and relaxing game of chess outside while also providing an education on the benefits of chess. Ava’s project aimed for people to get outdoors and to challenge themselves to think differently. Her project consisted of a permanent life-size chess set that will continue to be accessible to residents. Additionally, the senior day care center has added chess to their programming to help engage individuals to improve their mental skills. JOAN OLIVERO of Oyster Bay Joan addressed the issue of e-waste to earn her Gold Award. She partnered with the Town of Oyster Bay, Best Buy and the ERI National Recycler to assist in her project. Joan developed a campaign that educated consumers about the benefits of repurposing the valuable metal of electrical cords. She hosted a grassroots information and collection center at the local farmers’ market and the Town of Oyster Bay’s Town Hall to connect members of her community with existing programs. She continues to educate people of the negative effects for irresponsibly disposing of e-waste. EDEN PRICE of Massapequa Eden educated youth ice hockey players on safety and injury prevention to earn her Gold Award. She researched and presented

information to young players along with their parents on common injuries sustained in hockey, how to prevent these injuries and when to seek medical attention. Eden also designed a pamphlet, and created a website to raise awareness on player safety. Northwell Health and Eden’s local hockey rink will continue to use her pamphlet at the Town of Oyster Bay’s hockey player safety meetings and it will be permanently posted on the bulletin board when you enter the rink. KATE BLUNDIN of Locust Valley Kate took on the challenge of addressing food insecurity by teaching younger children about giving back to the community. Due to the pandemic and rise in food insecurity, many food services such as food pantries and soup kitchens struggled to keep up with the demand. Kate partnered with NOSH, a program of the North Shore Soup Kitchen, designed to deliver groceries to those in need. Through her discussion, presentations, and video, she worked with children to educate them on food insecurity while also making notes and bracelets on the grocery bags. AYESHA CHANDNANI of Syosset To earn her Gold Award, Ayesha Chandnani interviewed senior citizens to document their life story and give advice for younger people. Ranging from starting a business, to pursuing a career in engineering, to serving in the army, Ayesha highlighted how her interviewees persevered and used problem-solving skills to achieve their goals. She presented these interviews at local libraries, and they can be viewed through her website along with a guide to help students reach out to elders in their communities. EMMA SCHNEIDER of N. To earn her Gold Award, Emma Schneider tackled the issue of gender inequities in the STEM field. The goal of her project was to address a lack of exposure and gender biases in the field of STEM. She aims to create a growing interest in girls to major in STEM. Emma produced a documentary series titled “The STEM Station,” that educates girls on what STEM is and types of careers that are available. Her channel includes a guide of what courses girls should take and clubs to join in high school to be prepared for a college STEM major. “The STEM Station” is the centerpiece of Emma’s Girl Scout Gold Award and the Emma’s resources will be sustained on YouTube to help more students pursue a career in STEM. GIULIANA FEIJOO of Old Bethpage Giuliana Feijoo successfully educated young students on the dangers of e-cigarettes to earn her Gold Award. Within her project, her goal was to address the lack of information on smoking and vaping found on social media. She hosted in-person and virtual presentations on the dangers of short and long-

term effects of smoking in any form. Giuliana also led discussions after her presentation to help answer additional questions from students. Her resources can be accessed on YouTube and related social media to continue to raise awareness on the negative effects of e-cigarettes. JULIANNA MCCARTHY of Massapequa To earn her Gold Award, Julianna McCarthy successfully set up a sensory path hallway in Schwarting Elementary School. Teaming up with an Applied Behavioral Analysis therapist, Julianna researched how different activities can help sooth a child or increase their stimulation to awaken their sensory systems. In doing so, she created a mood regulator path benefitting children with sensory issues while also remaining open to all students and teachers. She included a description and purpose of each activity along the path and created a packet for the main office to distribute to other school staff. Julianna’s sensory path is sustained by the school psychologist and continues to be utilized by the teachers and staff in the building.

MICHAELA JOHNSON of Farmingdale To earn her Gold Award, Michaela Johnson addressed the issue of the expense and access of diabetic supplies. She spoke at many seminars and national organization events as well as with local community members. Through her discussions and website, she shared available resources to help people to acquire diabetic supplies they might not be able afford. She worked closely Tami Balavage, the founder of Help a Diabetic Child Foundation and her project will continue to make an impact as her website will be available to all those who need. “On behalf of the Town Board, we commend these fine young women for earning the highest and most coveted achievement through the Girl Scouts of America,” said Councilman Hand. “What makes attaining a Gold Award even more admirable is that less than 6% of Girl Scouts achieve this accomplishment annually. These honorees express a special commitment to themselves, their communities, and their futures.”
