Seniors showed up at Seaford High School empty-handed on June 22 and left with their arms of full goodies, bringing a little sense of normalcy after the last three months of school were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep gatherings small and to ensure social distancing, students were assigned one of three times slots to visit the school. They walked up to designated classroom windows where administrators and
teachers were waiting on the other side to hand over bags of items. Each senior received his or her cap and gown, yearbook, poster from the senior parade and a gift from senior class advisers Kim Flood and Shari Raduazzo – a card and a green Seaford High School Class of 2020 keychain. Nearby, Seaford Middle School English teacher Susan Steinberg had a table set up with a pile of papers and sneaker boxes. When students were in seventh

grade, they wrote letters to their future selves, which Ms. Steinberg kept and returned to them along with time capsule boxes they created. Representatives from the PTSA were also on hand to provide each senior with a gift box that included a Seaford Class of 2020 facemask, pen, graduation cap squeezable stress reliever and gift card to local ice cream shop Spoons. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. EFF provides financial education, literacy and best practices at low or no cost to individuals and groups from primary school through retirement and including life events. Rhonda Klch, Executive Director of the Equity First Foundation has taken all necessary steps to get out of her comfort zone and attack COVID with her resources. As a women entrepreneur, she used her relationships, social media and community to power through this current pandemic.

Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life.

Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. The Equity First Foundation has three different types of programs that they offer: Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:

career options by salary, understanding money management, life skills, healthy financial choices, creating a budget, creating a savings account and more. Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program focuses on independent facilities, partnering charities and nonprofits, community centers, libraries, career fairs, guest speakers, events and more for all demographics. These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit. In light of concerns about COVID-19, various health organizations have issued specific instructions on how to maintain personal safety and cleanliness. These recommendations involve using common household products to sanitize homes, offices and public spaces. As people take such precautions, many are stocking up on extra essentials - resulting in shortages. Everything from hand sanitizers to paper towels may be hard to find on grocery store shelves, leaving some to wonder what they can do to remain safe without sanitizers? The Environmental Protection Agency states that coronaviruses are some of the easiest types of viruses to kill because they have an
envelope around them that enables them to merge with other cells and infect them. If that protective coating can be disrupted, the virus can’t do its job. For those having trouble finding well-known cleaning agents, these alternatives may suffice. Hot Water And Soap The reason hand-washing is at the top of the list of sanitizing methods is because it is so effective at washing away viruses and bacteria. Friction from scrubbing with soap and water can help break the protective envelope, states the EPA. Soap and water can clean all surfaces in a home, especially when applying a little extra elbow grease. Hydrogen Peroxide As people clear isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) off the
shelves, do not discount hydrogen peroxide. The CDC says household hydrogen peroxide at 3 percent concentration can deactivate rhinovirus, the virus that causes the common cold, within six to eight minutes of contact. Coronavirus is easier to destroy than rhinovirus, so hydrogen peroxide may be effective at combatting that virus as well. Natural items can be used for general cleaning, but have not been endorsed for use on COVID-19 disinfection. In lieu of shortages, white vinegar, baking soda pastes and citrus oils and juices could fill the void of chemicallybased cleansers for other home tasks.

He placed third in the 3,200-meter race, which turned out to be his last high school race because the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the spring season. “It was a good way to end it, although I didn’t know it in the moment,” he said. “Because I thought I was good at tag” is why Seaford High School senior Jason Linzer said he first joined the middle school track team as an eighth grader. That proved to be one of the best decisions he ever made as he went on to become a standout track and field and cross country athlete, consistently ranking as one of the best longdistance runners on Long Island over the last four years. Jason recently added to his collection of hardware, earning the T. Redmond McKenna Memorial Award from the Nassau Track & Field and Cross Country Officials Association. It not only recognizes him for his athletic accomplishments, but also for displaying the qualities of scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. He didn’t even know he was nominated for the award until representatives of the Officials Association recently showed up at his house – in masks and gloves – to present him with his plaque. “I found it interesting when one of the officials thanked me for what I had done for track and field,” he said, “because I never really thought about it that way. I always thought about what track has done for me.” In four years as a varsity runner, Jason made many memories. He vividly
