Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson announced the Town’s S.T.O.P. (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) and Homeowners Cleanup Days this summer, at the Town’s Solid Waste Disposal Complex. Residents can drop off materials at 101 Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Road in Old Bethpage, on the following dates and times:

The Charity of the Month for July is

Blue Umbrella Experience www.abcommunityclasses.org

Blue Umbrella Experience (BUE) is a local nonprofit organization that offers a variety of interactive and engaging community classes for youth, young adults and individuals through their Above and Beyond Community Class initiative. Their goal is that students will enjoy learning while also connecting with others. The importance of community should never be overlooked, and Blue Umbrella Experience definitely understands that! The classes that this nonprofit offer either take place at their new location, which is 150 Motor Parkway, Suite 11, Hauppauge, NY 11788 or online! Some classes they offer are: Yoga, Martial Arts, Acting and Improv, Music Appreciation, Art, Digital Design and Technology, World Cultures, History of Walt Disney, Languages and Humanities, Personal Development, Finances and Math for everyday use, Communications, Animals & Nature and Cooking for all abilities and all levels. “We know we are our best selves when we have that safe space to feel accepted in, to help give us courage to try new things and practice using our voices to comfortably advocate for ourselves. We started our nonprofit Blue Umbrella Experience, Inc last June with the hope of thoughtfully and skillfully helping youth, young adults and individuals of all abilities to grow by learning, connecting and belonging during the pandemic and beyond,” says Executive Director Christine Hawkins. “We honestly could not bear the thought that individuals might otherwise face even more isolation, adversity and less options. We have been blessed with a team of instructors that have professional teaching experience in a Comprehensive

Transition Program and first and foremost, a love of supporting positive growth in their students; and so, through our Above and Beyond Community Class initiative, BUE’s community has grown to an incredible group of over 80 individuals from all over and ranging in age from 14 into their thirties.” Since September, this nonprofit has had 100% retention and everyday their BUE community continues to expand, while keeping their interactive classes small and personalized for optimum learning. To nurture the incredibly important sense of belonging, they also make sure they incorporate free lunch meetings, a weekly wrap up community meeting, as well as social events to integrate learning and help students nurture their bonds with each other. Students and professionals are always welcome to visit their new location to see what its all about! Additionally, if you are looking to get involved with BUE, they welcome professionals that have teaching experience and a lot of heart to reach out and propose classes that they can run that will support skillbuilding and increase quality of life for others. Also, if you would like to volunteer your time to help fulfill their mission, you can! Lastly, donations are always appreciated. RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY - On June 23, 2021, the Adventureland family celebrated the Grand Reopening of Adventureland with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. were tasked with creating a system for contact tracing, setting up testing procedures, facilitating the administration of vaccines and establishing protocols for each and every employee in the Town. Graduates Celebrate Their Seaford Pride The 64th graduating class of Seaford High School had a senior year like no other, but students shared the same enthusiastic spirit as the classes that came before them. The 181 members of the Class of 2021 were recognized for their accomplishments over the past 13 years during a ceremony at the Tilles Center on June 26. Principal Scott Bersin told graduates how lucky they were to grow up in Seaford, a community that welcomes people with open arms. “I think the greatest thing about Seaford is its inclusivity,” he said. “It is a part of Seaford Pride to make everyone feel like they belong.” Valedictorian Julia Gambino also spoke about the tight-knit community that she and her classmates proudly call their hometown. She said big or small, everyone has made an impact on each other’s lives. She values Seaford’s traditions and is grateful for the people who provide a strong and constant support system. “Seaford is how we got to where we are today, and as we all close this chapter and embark on this new journey of our adult lives, I encourage us all to remember the importance of the people who are a part of our lives, and

the impact that we can have on them,” she said. “Seaford is our home. It’s where we’re from, who we love, and most importantly, who we are.” Salutatorian Kaylee Sanderson said that high school, particularly the last two years, taught her to “expect the unexpected.” When faced with adversity, the Class of 2021 rose to the occasion, she said, and demonstrated its adaptability and resilience. “Despite the ups and downs,” she said to her fellow graduates, “I’m grateful to have shared this chapter of life with all of you and I’m proud of how much we have accomplished and overcome together.” Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora noted that the graduates experienced anything but a typical senior year with a hybrid learning model through mid-April and fewer celebratory events. She said that fortunately school began to look a little more normal the last few months and the seniors even got to celebrate their prom. John Brooks, Nassau County Legislature Steve Rhoads and Town of Hempstead Christopher Carini. “I welcome you all to a great club, Seaford alums,” said Sen. Brooks, a member of the Class of 1968. Legislator Rhoads asked all of the graduates to rise, turn around and give their parents a big round of applause for all their years of support. Councilman Carini said the ability to overcome the challenges of the past year has made them “tough as nails Vikings.” Senior class officers presented their class gift, a donation of more than $1,000 to purchase artwork to beautify the high school. Dr. Pecora acknowledged students who will join the military after graduation. The ceremony also featured a photo slideshow of seniors and the presentation of several awards. Board of Education President Bruce Kahn, along with Dr. Pecora and Mr. Bersin, handed out diplomas, as names, future plans and high school activities were read aloud by assistant principals Jennifer Bisulca and Nicole Schnabel.
