Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that exists to provide aid, comfort, safety and support for children that have been sexually, physically and emotionally abused. They are dedicated to the principle that ‘one of the basic rights of childhood is to be safe and protected’. When a child’s family or environment has failed them, B.A.C.A. stands ready to help.

One of the greatest and most unique assets of B.A.C.A. for children is their “biker family attitude”. Bikers are a tightly knit group. The brotherhood and family values are not just a way to live, but a way of life. One for all and all for one is not just a quote but it is their reality. After children have been introduced into the B.A.C.A. family they are not helpless or powerless anymore.

NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE MEETING - Congressman Pete King (R-Seaford) recently met with members of the National Urban League of Long Island to discuss issues of particular interest to the African-American community including healthcare, education and job opportunities.

The Long Island B.A.C.A. Chapter had their 100 Mile Ride Event on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Thousands of B.A.C.A. members from around the world participated in this event in various countries and states on the same day! They raised awareness of child abuse and of the services they provide for abused children all over the world.

Some requirements are that you have a desire to help abused children, you have regular access to a motorcycle, you are 18 years or older, you can pass an NCIC fingerprint check and you can attend monthly meetings and Chapter events (their meetings are held the second Sunday of every month at the American Legion Hall in Bohemia at 9:00AM unless it’s a holiday). You can also donate to this organization at anytime on their website. If you want to make a donation to the Long Island Chapter directly, please contact the Long Island B.A.C.A. WOOD BAT TOURNAMENT - Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony D’Esposito (right) attended the Wood Bat Tournament in memory of NYPD Officer Anthony Dwyer, a resident of Elmont and graduate of Sewanhaka High School, who was killed in the line of duty on October 17, 1989. Proceeds from the tournament – which was held on May 4, 2019 at LSW Cuomo Field in Seaford – will benefit the Anthony Dwyer Foundation, an organization that provides assistance to police officers and their families in their time of need. Also attending were Anthony’s family; NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill; NYPD Chief Terence A. Monahan; John Flynn of the NY PBA; NYPD 9th Precinct Captain Brendan Timoney; NYPD Chief of Special Operations Harry Wedin; and NYPD Chaplain Rev. George Anastasiou.

Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE) held a Meet the Artists Reception to honor special needs artists participating in their Fine Art and Art Therapy Programs. Those artists have their collection entitled “Ascension” exhibited at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post through June 12, 2019. “The way the individuals we are privileged to serve express themselves through their art is truly moving,” said Robert S. Budd, CEO, FREE.

“Exhibitions, such as this one, are so important. They allow the larger community the ability to see the talents each of the artists possess, and realize that art truly has no limits,” he continued. FREE, a leader in the field of human services dedicated to helping individuals of all abilities realize their full potential believes that Art Therapy provides a powerful means for healing and communication for anyone, but especially for people who find it difficult to express their thoughts

and feelings through spoken words alone. You are witness to the enormous courage and strength needed to take on the challenge of creating a free form abstract painting. Throughout the eleven months it took to complete our process, weekly emotional and spiritual self-revelation spiraled our artists to ever mounting artistic heights allowing them to find their voices and “talk to us” through the mystical, hidden language of images, colors and symbols.
