he Seaford Lions Club again locally sponsored the Lions International Poster Contest, which encourages children ages 1113 to creatively express what peace means to them. The 2012-2013 contest theme was “Imagine Peace.” Each winner was awarded a Certificate and Prize. Sunshine & Socializing By: Jamie Lynn Ryan As I sit here on deadline, writing my column at the eleventh hour – as usual – is it wrong that the only thought I have is how I would rather be lying on the beach, soaking up the sun, on this fine spring day? Nothing against work – it just tends to conflict with the nice weather, you know? Sure, summer isn’t even officially underway yet, but the signs are everywhere. Concert schedules are out, vacations are being planned, baseball is in full swing – before you know it, it will be time to break out the
BBQ and open the pool for the first summer soiree. School? Work? Eh, plenty of time for that in the winter. Now it’s just a matter of coordinating all those fun summer plans, which is often easier said than done. Is it just me, or has it become increasingly difficult to set anything in stone? No matter the amount of advance notice, things always seem to fall through at the last second. Me, when I make plans, I stick with them. Barring an unexpected emergency, there is really no legitimate reason to cancel on someone. Call it a pet peeve, but there’s nothing worse
than looking forward to something only to have it cancelled. Kind of makes you not want to even bother. It’s almost better to play it by ear, see how it goes… and if things fall into place – great. If not, at least you didn’t waste your time getting your hopes up, right? I think that will be my mantra for this summer. Nice and relaxing. No stress, no aggravation, just enjoyment. And if, when all is said and done, that means lying on the beach by myself…so be it. I can think of worse things. See ya on the sand!

For 2013 NYS Empire Passport holders, there is no vehicle use fee charge. For those looking to take public transportation to the air show, NICE Bus has increased its summer service and will run the n88 out of the Freeport LIRR station to Jones Beach every half hour from 8:35 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Also, the newly reinstated N87 out of the Hicksville LIRR station, will run hourly to Jones Beach on Saturday and Sunday, from 9:20 a.m. until 7:20 p.m. Both routes will make stops at Jones Beach’s two Bathhouses and the Central Mall. FIELD TRIP - Seaford Manor’s fourth graders took a field trip to the Raynham Hall Museum in Oyster Bay. The museum “transported” the students back in time to colonial times, a time period they have been learning about. Raynham Hall was the former home of the Townsend family. The students got a tour of the home and leaned all about how during the American Revolution, the home housed British soldiers and how the owner’s son Robert Townsend was a spy for General George Washington.
