Readers have been writing in lately, inquiring as to my whereabouts, my wellbeing, my latest exploits… So I’m here, as requested, to fill you all in on my comings and goings – well, as much as one can come and go in the confines of a one-gallon aquarium, but you know… The latest bit of exciting news – potentially, anyway – is my Human’s impending purchase of a friend for me! Yes, that’s right, Buddy the Betta will soon be accompanied by the likes of a small, colorful (but not too colorful), aquatic snail. I’m thinking purple, to
complement my gorgeous aqua fins. The best part is that, in addition to having a companion for those ohso-long days when my Human leaves me to my own devices, my new little friend can also serve as a portable vacuum cleaner of sorts. With my larger residence, the maintenance can be a bit much, and I do like immaculate living quarters. I’ve even picked out a name – “Squeegee.” Oh what fun we will have together, so long as he keeps those long tentacles off my delicate fins, of course... and away from my food… and off of my favorite bedtime leaf… and, well, we’ll see how it
goes. This could be shortlived. Other than that, life in the bowl is pretty much status quo. I’m going on 15 months old, still as vibrant and beautiful (and humble) as ever, and my Human has graduated to feeding me twice a day – small portions, but still, I’ll take what I can get. It’s a good life – especially when Grammy comes to visit and makes kissy-faces at me. ‘Til next time, this is Buddy, anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new googly-eyed roommate. Island Harvest Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) are again joining forces for the 24thannual Stamp Out Hunger campaign on Saturday, May 14th as part of the nation’s largest single-day food drive. Postal carriers throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties will collect nonperishable food items left by caring Long Islanders who want to be part of the solution in ending hunger in our communities. All food collected will benefit Island Harvest in providing supplemental food support to the more than 316,000 Long Islanders at risk of going hungry every day. Participation in the Stamp Out Hunger food drive is simple. Residents are asked to leave nonperishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, boxed juices and shelf-stable milk (please, no glass items) next to their mailboxes before regularly scheduled mail delivery on Saturday, May 14th, 2016. The postal
carriers will do the rest. Food donated will help replenish food supplies at Long Island’s food pantries, soup kitchens and other feeding programs served by Island Harvest. “The longstanding partnership we have forged with the NALC, the United States Postal Service, and our corporate partners is making a difference in providing much-needed food to the scores of men, women and children who often don’t know when their next meal will be,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest. “I’m confident that, as in years past, generous Long Islanders will answer the call and leave food donations next to their mailboxes on Saturday, May 14. Every donation, no matter how small, helps Island Harvest serve our neighbors struggling with hunger.” “The National Association of Letter Carriers is proud to partner with the United States Postal Service and many

As part of the camp’s S.T.E.M. related programs and activities, the scouts built their own interactive robots before bringing them to life, giving their robots the ability to pick up and launch balls, trail paths and follow instructions.
Scouts also conducted various experiments and learned about science through numerous displays that not only included robotics, but also chemistry, aviation and flying machines as well as catapult constructions and theme park engineering.
The Theodore Roosevelt Council’s S.T.E.M. Camp is a follow up to the grand opening of the Council’s S.T.E.M. Center that was celebrated earlier this year with hundreds of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and others along with Congressman Peter King.
