Bethpage Federal Credit Union, New York State’s largest credit union, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, announce the performer line-up for the much-anticipated 18th Annual Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach, taking place on Saturday, May 28, 2022 and Sunday, May 29, 2022, from 10 AM – 3 PM. Returning for their 9th headlining performance, with two native New Yorkers on the jet team, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels return to Long Island following the cancellation of their last scheduled performance in 2020, due to Covid. Military performers joining the Blue Angels are the United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, which will be making their 16th appearance at the Bethpage Air Show; the Air Combat Command

F-22 Raptor; the U.S. Navy F-35C Tac Demonstration Team; the U.S. Coast Guard; and the 106th Rescue Wing NY Air National Guard HC - 130 / HH 60 Demonstration Team. Civilian performers include the world-famous Skytypers and their flight squadron of five vintage WWII aircraft; Mike Goulian, North America’s most decorated aerobatic pilot; Jessy Panzer, a highly recognized female aerobatic pilot making her second Bethpage Air Show appearance; the American Air Power Museum Warbirds; Long Island’s own David Windmiller; and the SUNY Farmingdale State College Flying Rams, who will fly several of their 22 college-owned aircraft. “This year’s highly anticipated show is going to be spectacular! We are very pleased to welcome the Blue Angels

card that can be shared within a household and not assigned to a specific vehicle. Grace and Rabeya said that being part of Model Congress helps with public speaking skills while also allowing students to meet other people from different backgrounds and with different points of view. The events also include entertainment and spirit activities. After months of preparation, the Robotics Club attended the FIRST Robotics Competition at Hofstra University from March 20-23. It was the first in-person event since 2019. Last year, the team had to submit a video of its robot in action. Team members Paul Anzelone, Kailly Nocera and Kyle O’Hagan, said teams form alliances with other schools for different events. There were nearly 40 teams from across the New York

Metropolitan area as well as other countries including Brazil and India. This year, each team had to build a robot that could pick up balls and shoot it into different targets. Seaford team members said the building and programming process took about six weeks. At the competition, everyone had a different task including driver, human player, safety captain and technician. Seaford’s team nickname is the Mechanized Mafia. The students noted that although it is a competitive event, there is also a lot of camaraderie. “In the robotics community, everyone helps out everyone else,” Paul said. “It was fun to see all of the robots competing again.” Kailly added that she enjoys the in-person competition because she can meet new people with similar interests and see the different robot designs.

Hope for Youth is an Amityville-based, notfor-proﬁt organization that works to facilitate positive change in the lives of Long Island children, youth and families. In this article we focus on their vital role in promoting foster care across Long Island. As next month is quickly approaching, it is appropriate to mention that May is National Foster Care Month, an initiative conducted through the US Department of Health and Human Services. The month is devoted to “ensuring a bright future for more than 407,000 children and youth in foster care.” The average age is 8 years old for those children, and there is just about an event split between how many of them are boys and how many are girls. The month acknowledges foster parents, family members, volunteers, policymakers and others who help children and youth in foster care ﬁnd permanent homes and connections.

Nationwide, 45 percent of foster children reside in a foster family home with a nonrelative, while 34 percent are with a foster family home with a relative. For 54 percent of foster children, the goal is to reunite the child with a parent or primary caretaker. The goal is adoption for 28 percent.

On Long Island, Hope For Youth is a central player in the identiﬁcation and training of foster families. All Hope For Youth foster families receive multiple certiﬁcations in parenting skills. Foster parents take part in mandated educational workshops throughout the course of the year.

The team members at Hope For Youth are keenly aware of the unique role that kinship caregivers play in working to achieve reuniﬁcation for children and youth in foster care. This focus helps to keep moving the system toward one that truly supports families. The organization also participates in “Wendy’s Wonderful Kids,” part of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Under this program, Hope For Youth has two adoption recruiters who bring children waiting to be adopted from foster care closer to safe, loving and permanent homes. The Foundation’s adoption recruitment model has proven effective nationwide in serving children who’ve been in foster care the longest. Hope For Youth is always looking for new foster parents. Hempstead Town Lifeguards Wanted

For All Town Of Hempstead Pools, Beaches And Bays Town beaches don’t open for another two months, but it’s never too early to start assembling our lifeguard team! We always have the best lifeguards on Long Island, and we’re excited to bring back many of our longtime team members and welcome some new faces as well. The Town of Hempstead is currently scheduling interviews for interested lifeguards. Several dates have been set aside to

interview candidates. Being a Town of Hempstead lifeguard is no “day at the beach.” In addition to keeping swimmers safe, our lifeguards took on additional responsibilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also were tasked with keeping an eye out for sharks, which came dangerously close to our shores on multiple occasions. Lifequards start at $18 an

hour, so there’s no better time to become a Town of Hempstead lifeguard! Lifeguard interviews will be held on April 30th, May 7th, May 14th and May 21st at 8 AM at Echo Park Pool in West Hempstead. Hempstead Town Announces 2022 Volunteer Beach Cleanup Schedule There are SEVEN beachside cleanup events scheduled for 2022. The complete schedule, organized by the Town of Hempstead in conjunction with AMSEAS and All Our Energy, is as follows: Sunday, May 1 Saturday, June 4 Sunday, June 26 Sunday, July 31 Sunday, August 28 Sunday, September 25

Sunday, October 30 Collection bags will be provided to participants at all cleanup sessions, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves. Town To Host The Special Olympics Spring Games In Farmingdale Over 500 Athletes To Compete In An Olympic-Style Contest On May 21st

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Town will again host the prestigious Special Olympics Spring Games in partnership with Special Olympics New York. Held at the Farmingdale Athletic Complex on Saturday, May 21st, the games will include a full-day of competitive track and field events for over 500 athletes supported by more than 300 coaches. These athletes - children

and adults with intellectual disabilities - have dedicated months to training for an Olympic-style competition that will culminate with the contest during these Spring Games. “Special Olympics are an opportunity to showcase the hard work, dedication, talents, and tremendous athletic achievements of athletes, while also paving the way to eliminate social barriers and stereotypes differently-abled individuals

face,” said Supervisor Saladino. “The Town of Oyster Bay is very proud to be a partner with Special Olympics New York and the Farmingdale School District in making this important event a reality. Town Clerk LaMarca Reminds Residents To Hire Licensed Landscapers With the spring season just around the corner, many residents may be looking to hire a landscaper to care for their yard. For their own protection, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Rich LaMarca reminds residents to only hire Town-licensed and insured landscapers. “The Town has a local law mandating that all persons, companies or corporations doing landscaping for hire in the Town of Oyster Bay be licensed by the Town,” said Town Clerk LaMarca. “Residents can identify a Town-licensed landscaper by the identification decal affixed to the driver’s side door of each vehicle and to the left rear bumper of any trailer used in the course of business. They are also required to carry the license or a photocopy signed by the licensee at all times.” Town Clerk LaMarca noted that the law provides several other regulations. These include restricting landscapers to working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. No work is permitted on Sundays. Also, landscapers are prohibited from

blowing debris into a street or any public property without removing or cleaning it up immediately thereafter. In addition, landscapers are required to use a drop cloth or other device designed to collect spillage when refilling oil or gas tanks on equipment. “The landscaping field has always attracted unlicensed individuals who are often not familiar with Town regulations,” Town Clerk LaMarca said. “Whether you are looking for a landscaper to simply cut the grass and trim the shrubbery or to install the landscape of your dreams, hiring a Town-licensed landscaper is the best form of protection. The Town checks to ensure they are properly licensed, have all insurances and that their vehicles are properly registered. The Town of Oyster Bay license assures that the contractor is accountable and that the Town is there for you should you have a problem.” Residents who witness an unlicensed landscaper operating or in violation of Town Code can contact the Town’s Department of Public Safety at (516) 677-5350.

Town Seeks Counselors For Summer Recreation Program Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently announced that the Town is seeking counselors for its 2022 Summer Recreation Program. The six-week program provides a rewarding employment experience for counselors as they work with children and make a difference. “This great summer job is ideal for residents age 16 or older who are looking to build their resume. Our summer recreation counselors get realworld experience while having fun, making memories, and making a difference in the lives of others,” said Supervisor Saladino. Applicants must be available for the duration of the program, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday

through Friday, beginning July 5th through August 12th. Summer Recreation Program participants take part in trips, tournaments, shows and athletic events, including the TOBAY Games, making being a counselor a great first job for many residents. Employment opportunities are offered at Marjorie R. Post (Massapequa), Plainview-Old Bethpage and Syosset-Woodbury Community Parks, Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park in Farmingdale, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach in Oyster Bay, and Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing.
