PUBLIC NOTICE OF COUNTY TREASURER’S SALE OF TAX LIENS ON REAL ESTATE Notice is hereby given that I shall, commencing on May 05, 2021, sell at public on-line auction the tax liens on real estate hereinafter described, unless the owner, mortgagee, occupant of or any other party-in-interest in such real estate shall pay to the County Treasurer by May 03, 2021 the total amount of such unpaid taxes or assessments with the interest, penalties and other expenses and charges, against the property. TERMS OF SALE Such tax liens shall be sold subject to any and all superior tax liens of sovereignties and other municipalities and to all claims of record which the County may have thereon and subject to the provisions of the Federal and State Soldier’s and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts. However, such tax liens shall have priority over the County’s Differential Interest Lien, representing the excess, if any, of the interest and penalty borne at the maximum rate over the interest and penalty borne at the rate at which the lien is purchased. The Purchaser acknowledges that the tax lien(s) sold pursuant to these Terms of Sale may be subject to pending bankruptcy proceedings and/or may become subject to such proceedings which may be commenced during the period in which a lien is held by a successful bidder or the assignee of same, which may modify a Purchaser’s rights with respect to the lien(s) the property securing same. Such bankruptcy proceedings shall not affect the validity of the tax lien. The County Treasurer reserves the right, without further notice and at any time, to withdraw from sale any of the parcels of land or premises herein listed. The rate of interest and penalty which any person purchases the tax lien shall be established by his bid. Blood Donations Critically Needed to Help Replenish Low Supplies Residents Encouraged to Donate Blood

To help hospitals meet the ongoing and pressing need for blood during the coronavirus pandemic, Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto and Town Clerk Richard LaMarca invite residents to attend a Blood Collection Drive on Saturday, April 24th from 10am to 4pm at the Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 S. Broadway in Hicksville.

Councilman Imbroto stated, “You can save lives by donating blood this April at the Hicksville Athletic Center. Blood supplies have seriously dwindled during this COVID-19 health pandemic and are critically needed for local hospitals to meet the demand and continue saving lives. Please consider participating in this blood drive on April

24th.” Appointments are preferred for the Town’s Blood Drive. Social distancing and sanitary protocols will be in place to maintain the health and safety of all donors. To qualify as a blood donor, a person must between the ages of 17 and 75 years old (16 with parental permission and 76 or older with a doctor’s note), weigh

at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Anyone who received a tattoo within the past 12 months is ineligible to donate. It is recommended that volunteers eat well (low fat) and drink fluids in the days before the Blood Drive. Clerk LaMarca added, “It’s quick, easy, and safe to donate a single pint

of blood which can save up to three lives. If you have family members or friends willing to donate, please ask them to support our effort this year, as this initiative is more vital than ever to help make sure that our local hospitals can meet the excessive demand during the coronavirus pandemic and continue to save the lives of as many people

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others financially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Contractors For Kids is local to the core. They know our Island well and they love to help locals. Their office is located in Holbrook and they have no plans of going anywhere. The

pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed afloat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Recently, CFK helped a 12 year old boy who suffered from a traumatic brain injury. He is now blind and he has a history of Wilm’s tumor and craniotomy, among many other complications. This little boy was put into the foster system and was adopted by the nurse that fostered him. CFK was able to provide them with a special chair to hold him, car payments and rent! Additionally, they assisted a 6 year old girl with Fibromatosis soft tissue sarcoma who lives in Holbrook. Due to intensive Chemo treatments, her mom had to stay home with her. CFK helped with several month’s mortgage payments, water and electric bills, as well as car payments to help keep this family afloat during difficult times! So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Want to help make a difference? You can do so by learning their mission, spreading awareness, referring families to CFK, distributing handouts/electronic materials and representing CFK at health fairs, open enrollment or employee meetings. SPECIAL AUTOMOBILE ISSUE Why Is Tire Rotation So Important? Vehicle owners need to keep maintenance on the mind to ensure their cars and trucks are operating at peak capacity. Various components should be checked and serviced at key intervals. Oil changes and fluid topoffs are part of routine maintenance, but it can be easy to forget about other important parts of the vehicle, including tires. Rotating tires is vital to their upkeep. Bridgestone Tires advises that tire rotation involves routinely repositioning a vehicle’s tires in specific patterns from front to back and side to side. According to Big O Tires, the front tires tend to wear on the outside edges because the tire leans over when a driver turns a corner. The rear tires just follow the front ones, so they usually wear more evenly. By leaving tires in place, the outside edges on the front tires will wear

down much faster than the rest and those tires will need to be replaced sooner. Rotation may be required by tire warranties. Rotation also keeps the tires working properly. Experts generally advise tire rotation every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, even if they do not show any signs of wear. It is challenging to determine if weather treads are uneven or how much wear has been sustained just by looking at them. Rotating tires can prolong the life of tires and decrease how frequently they need to be replaced. Rotating tires keeps the tread depth uniform and helps maintain traction and consistent handling across all four tires. Bridgestone says the tire rotation pattern that is best for a particular vehicle depends on the type of tire being used. Patterns are recommended by the standardizing body of the tire industry, called The Tire and Rim Association,

Inc. Individuals can consult with professional mechanics about the proper way to rotate tires. Many tire manufacturers or automotive stores that have sold customers tires also will do tire rotations — some free of charge. In addition to proper traction, minimizing uneven tire treads causes the vehicle to be more balanced, advises Wrench, a mobile auto repair and maintenance company. This enables the driver to have more control even when roads are slippery. Many auto service centers will then align and balance tires after they have been rotated. At this time the mechanic will likely check brakes as well, since it is easy to see and reach them when the tires are off. Tire rotation is an important component of vehicle maintenance. Check with a qualified automotive professional to see if it’s time to have your vehicle’s tires rotated.

Auto insurance is a must-have for drivers. While it might seem hard to believe, as of 2019 there are still some places in the United States where auto insurance is not mandatory. Auto insurance is mandatory in Canada, though each province has its own requirements in terms of the minimum amount of coverage allowable by law. Many people, even those in places where auto insurance is not mandatory, recognize the importance of being insured before they get behind the wheel. However, that doesn’t mean those same drivers would not like to cut the cost of their auto insurance policies. A 2019 analysis from the online financial resource NerdWallet found that the average cost of car insurance in the United States is $1,621 per year. Average insurance costs vary significantly in Canada, where data from the General Insurance Statistical Agency found that, in 2019, the average annual insurance premium in British Columbia exceeded $1,800, while drivers in Quebec paid slightly more than $700 annually. No matter where drivers live, chances

are they would love to lower their auto insurance costs. While there’s no onesize-fits-all solution to cut auto insurance premiums, drivers can try various strategies to save money on their policies. • Raise your policy’s deductibles. Higher deductibles may sound scary to drivers, but raising the deductibles is a great way to lower the cost of auto insurance. The

auto insurance provider Progressive notes that deductibles typically range from $100 to $2,000. A driver whose policy has a $100 deductible will pay considerably more on his policy per month than a driver with a higher deductible. In fact, the Insurance Information Institute notes that drivers who increase their deductibles from $200 to $1,000 can save 40 percent or more on

their coverage costs. Drivers who choose this option should always be sure they have enough money in the bank to cover the cost of their deductibles. • Bundle your policies. Some drivers save money on their auto insurance policies by buying two or more types of insurance from the same provider. For example, homeowners may save money by buying homeowners insurance from their auto insurance providers or vice versa. • Research potential discounts. The III notes that many companies offer discounts to policyholders, even if those discounts are not necessarily promoted. Drivers can contact their insurance companies, or shop around with other providers, to ask about various discounts that can save them money on their policies. Anti-theft devices, defensive driving courses, low annual mileage, and a strong credit record are just a handful of the many potential discounts drivers may be eligible for. Drivers can reduce the cost of their auto insurance policies in various ways, potentially saving themselves hundreds of dollars each year as a result.

Artists Earn Regional Recognition

Seaford High School once again found its students on the list of regional winners in in the national Scholastic Art and Writing contest, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. Seniors Leila Gomez and Sophia Labrador, and sophomore Katerina Perlegis, all received honorable mention awards.. Leila’s digital art piece, “Stuck,” is a visual representation of the psychology behind the reasons people develop certain fears and an exploration of her

own fears. She is an Advanced Placement art student with teacher Curtis Tripoli. Sophia created an image of a sunrise using Adobe Illustrator, based upon a picture she took in Florida. The piece, appropriately named “Sunrise,” was created last year in her digital imaging class with teacher Melinda DiGiovanna. “Sweet Treats” by Katerina is a picture of donuts that she took on her phone and later edited for her photography class with Ms. DiGiovanna.

She also works with more traditional art materials in her drawing and painting class. Ms. DiGiovanna said that the contest was open to artists who completed their pieces in 2020 during the spring and fall school terms. She noted that it is very competitive and that judges look to award work that demonstrates a student’s passion for art. Photo courtesy of the Seaford School District Seaford High School’s new principal is already well known to the community, as the board of education appointed Assistant Principal Nicole Schnabel to the position, effective July 1. She will replace Scott Bersin, who will become an assistant superintendent in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, after nine years at the helm of Seaford High School. Before coming to Seaford, she was an English teacher for 11 years at Massapequa High School, her alma mater. As a teacher, she helped develop a broadcasting program and a college essay workshop that were both recognized as “Programs of Excellence” by the New York State English Council. In 2017, she traded in her blue and gold for green and white, embracing “Seaford Pride.” During her time as assistant principal, Ms. Schnabel has served as liaison to the art, English and math departments, chaired the school safety committee and led the instructional support team with fellow assistant principal Jennifer Bisulca. She has been involved in the planning of many activities including the Curriculum Fair, an annual showcase of the high school’s academic program, and the “Choose Your Future” Fair, an exhibit of post-secondary options as alternatives to college. “From creating the master schedule to expanding course opportunities for students, every project at

Seaford High School is done collaboratively,” Ms. Schnabel said. “We bring students, teachers and staff into almost every project, because their voices often lead to some of the best ideas.” To enhance the school’s connection with the community, she established a social media presence, launching the @ seafordhspride Instagram and Twitter accounts. As liaison to Class of 2020, Ms. Schnabel worked with seniors, class advisers and administrators to plan last year’s graduation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Four ceremonies were held on the school’s front law in August. Ms. Schnabel holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a master’s degree in English education from New York University, as well as her school building and district leadership certifications from Stony Brook University. She is a member of the executive board for the Nassau County High School Assistant Principals’ Association. Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora described Ms. Schnabel as a cerebral and talented educator, a kind person and someone who brings “that little extra flair” to the high school. She said one aspect of Ms. Schnabel’s tenure as assistant principal that stands out was her ability to keep students connected to the school during the shutdown at the beginning of the pandemic,

and her continuous desire to involve students in planning for various events. “Ms. Schnabel is passionate about creating an optimal learning environment for our students and is going to do a fabulous job as our new building principal,” Dr. Pecora said. “She has a vision for how we’re going to provide enhanced opportunities for all of our students, and will continue the traditions established by Mr. Bersin. Seaford Pride is going to reign even stronger.” She will become the 11th principal of Seaford High School since it opened in 1958, and the first female to hold the position. Ms. Schnabel said she looks forward to continuing her work with a talented team of teachers as well as an active and engaged student body. As principal, she wants to focus on continuing to expand academic opportunities for students, new college planning initiatives and social and emotional learning. The latter, she said, is an important priority with the challenges students have faced in the last year. “I truly respect the traditions of Seaford High School,” she said. “We are a big family and the community is very supportive. The school is in a great place because of the hard work of so many. I want to use the energy that already exists to create new and exciting opportunities for students.”

Going Mad For Books At Manor Seaford Manor Elementary School’s third annual March Madness: A Tournament of Books had a new twist this year, with guest readers throughout the district sharing the 16 books entered into this year’s bracket. The literacy initiative was coordinated by librarian Samantha Riebling and fourth grade teacher Jill Egan. When last year’s March Madness event went virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Manor staff created read aloud videos of the bracket books, which were then shared on the school website for students to view at home. That was so successful that they decided to do it again even though school is back in person, and expanded

opportunities to read to others in the Seaford school community. Manor teachers played the videos in class, but students could also rewatch at home from the school website, with many making it a family activity. Readers this year included central office administrators, Seaford High School students, and principals, assistant principals, teachers and staff from Manor, the middle school and the high school. The 16 books were paired up and students voted on their favorites until it was down to the final two – “Picture Book By Dog” by Michael Relth, which was read by Assistant Superintendent John Striffolino and his pet companion, and “If I

Built a School” by Chris Van Dusen, read aloud by Manor Principal Debra Emmerich. Ms. Egan said that 16 new books were chosen, so they were no repeats from last year, and the bracket also included a mix of titles appropriate for both younger and older elementary students. She and Ms. Riebling announced the winners in each set of the bracket after students cast their votes using Microsoft Forms. The book bracket was hung in the main hallway so students could see the competition unfold as it went from initial 16, to the Elite 8, to the Final 4, to the Top 2. “Picture Book By Dog” was revealed as the winner on March 26.
