The opioid epidemic has highlighted that all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and all communities can be profoundly vulnerable to addiction. YES Community Counseling Center has been providing both addiction treatment and prevention services for the past three decades with the understanding that the needs of each individual is uniquely different and therefore, treatment must also be individualized and utilize a variety of approaches.
YES Community Counseling Center’s addiction treatment services are comprehensive and approaches are based upon the developmental stage and readiness of each individual. Under the supervision of the agency’s Medical Director, specializes in evidence based services which are available for adolescents, young adults, adults and family members, including: •Adolescent Family Program (AFP) •Young Adult groups •Impaired driver evaluations and treatment •Moral Reconation Therapy for those who are legally involved (MRT) •Recovery groups •Trauma focused therapies •Parent and significant other support groups •Educational groups
It is also understood that most often, family members are deeply affected by addiction and require support and well as an understanding the complexities of the disease and how to support a loved one through their recovery. Early education about addiction is critical along with early interventions that build individual, family and community protective factors to reduce the likelihood of young people resorting to substances to cope with life’s challenges. In light of marijuana legalization, it is so important that parents learn the detrimental effects of all substances on the developing brain. In addition to prevention services within the local schools and community, YES CCC offers early intervention

A Musical Fantasy Comes To Seaford Middle School Stage

Theater returns at Seaford Middle School, as the drama club will stage its first musical production in three years with “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” The show is based on the 1968 musicalfantasy film. A cast of 32 is preparing for two performances on April 1 and 2. Lead actors include Brandon Bombardier as Caractacus Potts, Kathryn Malone as Jemima Potts, Harrison Feitzinger as Jeremy Potts, Madison Spinella as Truly Scrumptious, Roran Cassidy as Grandpa and Lord Scrumptious, and Zachary Dyckman and Olivia Ferrara
as Baron and Baroness Bomburst. Musical numbers include “Chitty Bang Bang,” “Me ’Ol Sweet Bam-Boo,” “Toot Sweets” and “Bombie Samba.” The student-actors are led by director Barbara Sherwin, music director Nick Coacci, stage manager Matt Dolan and assistant stage manager Daniel Krueger, along with a student crew of 15. Ms. Sherwin noted that for the entire cast, this is their first show at Seaford Middle School, as the 2020 musical was canceled due the pandemic, and no show was scheduled last year
because of health and safety protocols. “This is our relaunch of the middle school drama club,” she said. “It’s an exciting moment for the student who are getting the opportunity to create something magical.” Show times are Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, at 7 p.m., in the Seaford Middle School gymnasium. Saladino Announces Paid Internship Opportunities For College Students
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced the return of internship opportunities for college students who are looking to gain meaningful work experience through an internship program being offered by the Town for the 2022 summer season. “Internship give students an advantage over other job seekers when it comes to work readiness, and I am proud that the Town will once again provide that opportunity for our residents,” Supervisor Saladino said. “This internship program provides an invaluable opportunity for students
to receive mentorship and supervision from experienced government professionals.” This federally-funded program compensates students at a rate of $18 an hour for work completed within various Town departments. Students will work 19.5 hours per week. The program will operate June 2nd through August 10th. Funds have been granted to the Town by the Oyster Bay-North HempsteadGlen Cove Workforce Development Board. This internship program offers college students the ability to gain worksite specific knowledge, learn
departmental procedures, assist with general office duties and reports, develop an understanding of worksite specific projects and apply the knowledge gained to benefit the Town of Oyster Bay. College students interested in internship opportunities must apply by April 15th. Applicants must submit a resume with their application, available at oysterbaytown.com/ internship. The Seaford Lions Club is offering three (3) $2000.00 scholarships to Seaford residents who will be graduating from high school in June 2022. Annual Spring Egg Hunt At Belmont Lake State Park The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the 29th annual Spring Egg Hunt at Belmont Lake State Park will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 12:00pm-2:00pm. There is no rain date for this event. The egg hunts will take place on the open field and will begin at 12:15pm. Additional hunts will occur at 15-minute intervals with the last one at 1:45pm. The hunts will be divided into three age categories: ages 4 & under; ages 5 & 6 and ages 7-9. There is a 3-egg limit per child per hunt to ensure everyone goes home with a special treat. Please bring a small bag or basket for your child to put their eggs in.
In addition to the egg hunt, there will be food vendors and free children’s activities including a petting zoo, pony rides, educational display by the Environmental Department, funny photos, and an inflatable bounce (weather permitting). You can also visit and take pictures with the Spring Bunny. This event is cosponsored by radio stations WBAB (102.3FM) and WBLI (106.1FM), Royal Events, NY Life, College Hunks, Ghost Busters, Long Island Suffolk Center for Speech, Catholic Health, and the Natural Heritage Trust. Spring Family Fishing Festival The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) will hold the annual Spring Family Fishing Festival on Saturday, April 2, at Belmont Lake State Park. Additional sponsors for the fishing festival include the Natural Heritage Trust, The Fisherman Magazine, New York Life, Seaford Knights of Columbus Fishing Club, Art Flick Chapter Trout Unlimited, and radio stations 106.1 WBLI and 102.3 WBAB. “Freshwater fishing is an activity the whole family can enjoy, especially on Long Island,” Regional Director Cathy Haas said. “The
Spring Fishing Festival at Belmont Lake State Park is an excellent way to kick off the fishing season and introduce family and friends to the sport with no license needed. Festival attendees can learn about freshwater fishing opportunities on Long Island and try their hand at fishing for trout while kids can participate in the casting contest and other fun activities.” “Fishing is a great way for New Yorkers to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the environment,” said State Parks Long Island Regional Director George Gorman Jr. “I encourage anglers of all ages to discover what a great place Belmont Lake State Park is to try fishing.” Festival activities begin at 10 a.m., and are provided

free of charge. Activities include open fishing, casting instruction, rod use, fish identification, fishing instruction, flycasting demonstrations, and a fish cleaning station. DEC and local fishing clubs will host informational displays and loaner rods and free bait will be available to participants. The supply of loaner rods is limited and participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing tackle if possible. Children’s activities include the “Spring Fling” casting contest, as well as hands-on educational displays by DEC’s Education Unit. Children participating in the casting contest will have a chance to win prizes supplied by DEC’s I FISH NY Program. This event will be held rain or shine. The Spring Fishing Festival is designated as a Free Fishing Event, so the freshwater fishing license requirement for anglers ages 16 and older is suspended for this event only. After 4 p.m., anglers will need a valid State freshwater fishing license to legally fish. All fishing regulations will continue to apply. A vehicle use fee of $8 will be in effect. Parking is free for Empire Pass holders. The 2022 Empire Pass can be purchased for $80 at State Park offices or online. The festival highlights DEC’s spring trout stocking program in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Prior to

the festival, DEC will stock Belmont Lake with nearly 1,000 brown and brook trout. Additional brook and rainbow trout will be stocked by State Parks. DEC will also stock Upper Twin Pond in Wantagh, Oyster Bay Mill Pond, and Massapequa Creek and Reservoir, along with 14 other Long Island lakes with trout before April 1, providing excellent prospects for spring fishing. In total, DEC’s spring stocking program, conducted by regional freshwater fisheries staff, staff from DEC’s Catskill Fish Hatchery, and volunteers, will place
20,000 brown trout and rainbow trout in ponds and streams in Nassau and Suffolk counties. A complete list of DEC fish stocking can be found on DEC’s website. Anglers are reminded that trout fishing season on Long Island is year-round for most lakes and streams. There is a daily limit of three fish per person. Spring trout stocking begins in mid-March and will be completed by early May. 2022 Trout Unlimited Fly Casting Clinic The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that “Fly Casting Clinics” and instructional courses will be offered at two Long Island State Parks. The Long Island Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be conducting two clinics on “Basic Fly Casting”, one on Saturday, April 2nd at Connetquot River State
Park Preserve in Oakdale and one on Saturday, April 9th at Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown. The clinics will be held rain or shine, from 10:00AM – 1:00PM, and are open to everyone 16 years and older. If you own fly fishing equipment, bring it with you, but it is not required to attend. Clinic topics will include basic casting instructions, equipment
needs and selection, conservation, and safety techniques. Reservations are required and accepted beginning two weeks prior to each clinic. There is no registration fee, however, there will be an $8.00 vehicle use fee in effect. The Long Island State Park Region also operates Nissequogue River Fly Fishing School at
Caleb Smith State Park Preserve. The school offers a series of ongoing instructional classes for groups and individuals in basic to advance freshwater and saltwater fly fishing and casting techniques, stream entomology, and still water (pond) techniques.
