As the only sixth-grade participant, she received a first-place ribbon for her project. Seventh-graders Julianne Crawford and Sarah Keane took first place for their project, “Are Righties Always Right?” which analyzed if right-handed people always use their right hand to complete tasks. Second place went to Julia Gambino and Madeline Kollar for “Got Gas in Your Glass?”, which determined how much gas is in carbonated drinks and the impact they have on your stomach. Third place was given to Dominique Bettina and Sarah D’Orio for their project, “Soda vs. Teeth,” which explored which types of soda were worse for your teeth. They found that the artificial color and sweeteners in diet sodas were the most damaging to your teeth. Eighth-grade students tied for first place. Luke Sulli’s project “Is Bottled Water Really Better?” faired equally as well as Katelyn Winter’s and Sofia Cangialosi’s project “Does Chewing Gum Help You Concentrate Better?” Their findings concluded that bottled water isn’t better than tap water and that chewing gum, does, in fact, help your concentration. Second place went to Hailey Galison for her investigation on “Liquid Evaporation” and third place was awarded to Jessica Kofod and Madison Montperious for their project, “Self Inflating Balloons.” “The students were very proud of their work and enjoyed sharing their projects with their peers and their teachers,” Zeblisky added. “Congratulations to all the participants for a job well done.”

The New York State Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Program provides a full SUNY tuition scholarship to the top ten percent of students in New York high schools if they major in a STEM field and work

in a STEM job in New York State for five years after graduation. To qualify for a STEM award, a student must be attending a New York State high school and be ranked in the top ten percent of his/her graduating class and enroll in full-time study at a SUNY in the fall term following high school graduation. DELIGHTFUL STORIES - Mrs. Harris’ Pre-K class at Our Redeemer Nursery School in Seaford celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday this month, where children enjoyed listening to Dr. Seuss’ delightful stories. Their activities for the day were all about Dr. Seuss’ fun characters, and they even had a birthday party for the legendary author!

Seaford Manor Elementary School kindergartners in Susan Henle’s class got a little help from students twice their age. They buddied up with fifth-graders in Candice Kaplan’s class who assisted them with a fun, interdisciplinary project with infused lessons in English Language Arts,

math and science. The students read books about letters, such as “Chick Chicka Boom, Boom” and “LMNOPeas;” practiced their math skills, including counting, adding, measuring and using fractions to complete a recipe for play dough; then they rolled, stretched and shaped the dough into

different letters that were featured in their books. Fifth-graders Paige Burch and Connor Lochner said the project was “really fun” and that they enjoyed helping the kindergartners build their skills. “We had GOING TO WORK - Dressed for success and ready to learn, Seaford Harbor and fun and I think they had Manor elementary school fifth-graders spent a day at Commerce Plaza in Levittown fun, too!” Connor said. to experience what it’s like to be a scientist, a doctor, a banker and a manager, among other professions. Commerce Plaza offers students hands-on, interactive ways to explore careers in a simulated professional environment.
