The organization was formed in 1977 as a result of funding obtained from the Town of Oyster Bay, which enabled them to provide street outreach and job placement for youth. Shortly after, they expanded upon their services for youth and have grow to provide a multitude of programs for children, adults, and families through Federal, State, County and private funding streams. Some of their current programs and services are below: Counseling Services: YES CCC believe family involvement and assistance is an integral part of treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. After all, the greatest successes in treatment often occur when all family members recognize their role related to the presenting problem and are open to active participation in the healing and growing process. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. Addiction Services: Comprehensive treatment is available to children, adults and families facing the complex problems of chemical dependency, as well as DWI assessments and specialized recovery groups. Available to anyone. Early Intervention Project: This program offers prevention and early intervention services to teens and their families at the beginning stages of their alcohol or drug experimentation or abuse. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. School-Based Services: YES Community Counseling Center provides Social
Work services to elementary school aged students in various school districts. WISH Program: Women In Shared Healing (WISH) provides comprehensive services for community members who have been physically, sexually and/or emotionally abused, as well as those effected by or witness to domestic violence. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. Prevention Services: These services are provided to youth, families, parents and community groups and are designed to reduce individual, family and community level risk factors and increase protective factors. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. Parenting Programs: Various programs are offered to assist parents/guardians in raising children. Available to residents within Nassau County Catchment Areas only. YES CCC provides a financial literacy program called Commerce Plaza to students throughout Long Island at their Levittown location. This unique program immerses students in a simulated business community with hands-on experience by assigning them roles and tasks that replicate actual work experience. Students learn about leadership, budgeting, operating a business, banking skills, and teamwork. Since opening in May 2000, Commerce Plaza has hosted over 69,000 students from school districts on Long Island. Available to students in both Suffolk County and Nassau County. Purple With A Purpose

Seaford Middle School celebrated P.S. I Love You Day on Feb. 11, a national initiative that raises awareness about the importance of mental health. Students and staff showed their unity by wearing purple. The hallways were filled with purple balloons and other decorations to spark joy. There were purple sticky notes throughout the school with inspirational messages from “Be Kind” to “You Can Make a Difference.” During their Ask and Support for Kids sessions,
which are held every other Wednesday for the last 20 minutes of the day, students wrote positive messages on purple hearts, which were then hung outside of the main office and the cafeteria. This was their way of spreading kindness to each other. Teachers also fostered the important message of P.S. I Love You Day in their classes. Sixth grade coteachers Jennifer Bass and Chelsea Bianco showed their appreciation for all of their students with a personalized note for each child. P.S. I Love You Day
activities were coordinated by social worker Amanda Smith, with support from the school’s pupil personnel services staff. “We really wanted to emphasize the importance of spreading kindness and positivity, as well as recognizing the impact our words and actions have on the people around us,” Ms. Smith said. “Students and staff fully embraced this initiative and helped to cover the middle school with purple hearts and sticky notes with kind messages to help brighten everyone’s day.”
A National Nod Of Approval For Vikings Yearbook
Seaford High School’s 2021 yearbook is one of the best in the nation. Last year’s edition received second place in the American Scholastic Press Association contest in its division, which is based on student enrollment. Co-advisers Melinda DiGiovanna and Curtis Tripoli said that the school’s yearbook publisher, Jostens, recommended they submit it to the contest. The 2021 yearbook earned 715 out of 1,000 possible points for second place. It was judged for its content presentation, general page design, general
photography, publication structure and creativity. Last year’s lead editors were Madison Ahern, Giana Cesario, Kelsey Gil and Ashley Sidoti, with Leila Gomez designing the cover. The final edition of “Vikings” was 144 pages of Seaford High School content plus a year in review section. Seaford High School received a personalized critique of the yearbook from the American Scholastic Press Association. Seniors Sophia Herman and Nicole Karaman, editors for the 2022 yearbook, say they are incorporating suggestions
from the judges to make this year’s edition even better. Ms. DiGiovanna and Mr. Tripoli, who were firstyear advisers in 2021, said it wasn’t designed with awards in mind, but to reflect what seniors wanted in their final high school yearbook. They are proud of last year’s staff for creating a book that not only appropriately honored the Class of 2021, but looks good, too. On earning the award on Seaford’s first time entering the contest, Ms. DiGiovanna said, “It was a surprise but we are definitely honored by it.”

Clothing Donations Needed For Long Island Children
Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. The South Shore Audubon Society is beginning now to accept applications for a $1000 award, the Evelyn and Jerry Bishop Environmental Scholarship 2022. College juniors, seniors, or graduate students earning a degree in areas of biological or

Benefits Of Volunteering Volunteering is a great way for individuals to strengthen their communities, but it also can be a unique way for individuals to improve their own overall happiness. A 2020 study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies examined 70,000 participants, each of whom received surveys
that asked questions regarding their volunteering habits and mental health.The study found that, when compared to those who did not volunteer, people who had volunteered in the previous 12 months were more satisfied with their lives and gave their overall health higher ratings. The
frequency of giving back to one’s community also may affect just how much volunteering affects mental health. Study participants who volunteered at least once per month rated their mental health even higher than those who volunteered but did so infrequently.
Registration Opening For Town Youth Ice Hockey Spring Program Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Louis Imbroto announced that registration for the Town’s Youth Ice Hockey Program will get underway soon for boys and girls ages 6-16. In-person registration is March 7th and 8th at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating, where the program is run. “This recreational and instruction program is designed to give youngsters a great way to learn the correct fundamentals of one of America’s most popular sports,” said Supervisor Saladino. “In addition to receiving instruction on the proper techniques of skating, stickhandling and shooting, participants will make new friends and create lifelong memories.”
Residents interested in joining the Town of Oyster Bay’s Youth Hockey Program can register for the Spring 2022 Session in person from March 7th to March 8th at the Bethpage Ice Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Registrants must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check, money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted. All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration. “Youngsters enrolled in the Town’s Youth Ice Hockey program are given the great opportunity to improve their skating
and hockey skills as part of a program that has earned recognition by the National Hockey League for its high level of quality,” said Councilman Imbroto. “Due to the great success of our new Girls Hockey Program, we are adding two sessions for this spring to allow for even more participants. Our program is truly is among the best around, with a dedicated coaching staff ready to teach this sport to the many boys and girls enrolled in our program.” All participants must provide their own equipment, and should have some skating ability. Councilman Hand Invites Residents To Apply For Picnic Permits Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tom Hand announced that residents are invited to apply for picnic permits online at www.oysterbaytown. com/picnic. As a part of the Town’s commitment to digitizing services for the convenience of all, these online reservations are valid for picnics at Marjorie R. Post Community Park in Massapequa, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach in Oyster Bay, Harry Tappen Beach and Marina in Glenwood Landing, S y o s s e t - Wo o d b u r y Community Park, and Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park. “Our beautiful Town Parks are the
perfect location for a family, school, or community group outing set in the great outdoors. Each location, from Teddy Roosevelt Beach in Oyster Bay to Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa, offers something unique for residents to enjoy,” Councilman Hand said. “Thanks to the hard work of our Parks Department, the process to apply for a picnic permit has now been streamlined to increase convenience and accessibility for residents.” Picnic Permits are required for groups of 25 or more at all Town of Oyster Bay picnic pavilion locations and include exclusive use of the permitted area from 9:00 AM - 6:00
PM on the reservation date. Some locations are covered, have access to water, and permit barbequing. To view picnic availability, residents can visit O y s t e r B a y To w n . com/Picnic and filter their preferred date, facility, specific location, and features using the page menu. They can then create an account on the same page and apply for the reservation. It is recommended that residents reserve their picnic pavilion early as spaces fill up quickly for the season. Hometown Heroes Recognition Applications Now Available
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola have announced that the Town will begin accepting applications for the 2022 Hometown Heroes’ Community Recognition Program. This initiative recognizes the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces – both living and deceased – who are current or former Town of Oyster Bay residents. “My Town Board colleagues and I were amazed by the outpouring of support this program received in its first year by our incredible residents, businesses and local heroes,” said Councilman Labriola. “We are proud to return this important initiative to our communities and we look forward to further recognizing our
veterans, active duty service members, and their families for their commitment to defend our freedoms and democracy.” Banners bearing the nominated individual’s name, rank, photograph and area of service will be unveiled throughout selected park facilities across the Town of Oyster Bay in the months leading up to Veterans Day in November 2022. Any interested individual or organization who would wish to sponsor a banner can remit $75 to sponsor the production of a banner. No profit is made from this program. Once the banners are displayed, the Town will maintain the banners, and will remain on display until Veterans Day, where they will then be taken down to avoid any inclement winter weather and returned to the service family or their loved ones.
Those who sponsored a banner last year are reminded to submit a new application in order to be included in the 2022 season. Applications must be received by March 11, 2022. Supervisor Saladino added, “This is an especially meaningful way to honor those who bravely and selflessly served our nation.
