Superintendent Brian L Conboy said, “Now, we all know that every library in the Nassau Library system has a children’s library and librarian and they all do things like summer reading programs, and cooking and crafts classes. The difference is, in Seaford, we have had Miss Cindy! All of her programs were led with her special brand of infectious enthusiasm; so much so, that one of the smallest communities in all of Nassau County, Seaford, had one of the best known and most well-attended Children’s Library programs around!” Not only were students familiar with the Children’s section of the Seaford Library and Miss Cindy’s infamous Storytime Hours, for many years, youngsters from the Manor and Harbor excitedly attended her school assemblies

After 20 minutes of family reading time, Miss Cindy did what she does best — entertained the crowd with one of her famous performances of the book, “Mother, Mother, I Want Another.” With eyes glued to her

Like clockwork, she came to dole out library cards to Manor kindergartners after entertaining them with stories. At the Harbor, she participated in the annual Community Read Aloud. She also came weekly - and sometimes more often - to drop off teacher-requested books that were not housed in the school collections, and she came to the Harbor every June to promote her summer reading program/ challenge. She also has been a part of the school’s Shared Decision Making (SDM) Committee for more than eight years, which promotes wellness initiatives and the importance of making healthy choices. Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney are pleased to announce that the New York Rising Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funding has approved the Town of Hempstead’s request for $400,000 in funding for areas of the Bellmore, Merrick, Seaford and Wantagh communities affected by widespread flooding caused by Superstorm Sandy. Although over two

years have passed since the superstorm devastated areas throughout the Town of Hempstead, for communities affected, the rebuilding process continues. The New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program was created to provide additional rebuilding and revitalization assistance to communities severely damaged by Hurricanes Sandy and Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Access Road Pending Seaford Harbor Elementary School is moving closer to obtaining a long-awaited access road to help alleviate traffic congestion on the only roadway that exists there. At its February 5th meeting, the Board of Education approved the language in an Intermunicipal Agreement (IMA) with Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, in which the county will provide the $650,000 needed to fund the project. The agreement was signed by the Board president and returned to Nassau County

for approval. Once approved by the county, the district will be able to start the bidding process for the project. District officials estimate that the road will be constructed in about two months after breaking ground. “Our community has waited more than 30 years for this roadway and we are thankful that our legislators, our Board of Education, and our administrators, PTA and parents at the Harbor School have been able to move this project closer to fruition,” said Seaford Superintendent

Brian L. Conboy. The 310-foot access road would be constructed on county-owned land running from Bayview Street just east of the school to Iona Street. The road is expected to be gated at both ends, but would be opened to alleviate traffic and provide an emergency exit if necessary. The only roadway that exists at the 51 year-old school is heavily clogged with traffic, particularly during morning and afternoon dropoff and pick-up periods.

Signing On To Play Seaford High School senior Danielle Pearse has signed a Letter of Intent on National Signing Day, February 4th, to play Division I soccer for the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils. The Center Forward, who scored 18 goals in her senior season, said the decision to attend the university was easy. She made her choice last May after being scouted at a California tournament. “They made me feel at home and the coaches are really great,” she said. “They make you feel like

part of a family.” Part of the Northeast Conference, the Blue Devils were conference champions eight times, most recently in the 2014 season. The team advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament where they played against Harvard University. “That was impressive,” said Danielle, who has played high school soccer since seventh grade and captained the team in her junior and senior year. In addition to school teams, she has played with the

traveling team Albertson Fury ECNL all through high school where she played in venues all around the country. She was All-County as a sophomore and All-Class as a junior and senior. She also has used her soccer skills to run a charity event that helped raise $1200 for breast cancer, in honor of her neighbor who is battling the disease. Outside of soccer, Danielle ran track for two years, was in the Best Buddies Club where she partnered with special needs students to

promote social skills, and taught Sunday school and participated in numerous community service projects through her church. She also worked as a waitress, babysat and tutored. “Danielle has all the qualities of a great player,” said Soccer Coach Suzanne Mooney. “She’s dedicated to her team, works hard to be the best she could be, she’s a leader and a great role model. She’s a high scorer and a high assist and does whatever is needed to be done to win
