www.fcali.org With locations across Nassau and Suffolk, Family & Children’s Association (FCA) is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to providing help and hope to Long Island’s most vulnerable children, families, seniors and communities. FCA envisions a Long Island where a legacy of optimal health, educational success and economic security passes from one generation to the next; each year it serves 30,000 individuals and families in Suffolk and Nassau counties. Its mission strives to make our island a better place for all of us to live, work and raise a family. FCA has served Long Islanders since 1884 and today its more than 40 programs fall into five big areas of need: Addiction Prevention, Treatment & Recovery Taking on addiction from every angle, beginning with prevention. Recovery support services are offered Islandwide with offices from Hempstead to Westhampton Beach. Children’s Mental Health & Wellness This division offers an array of services and supports designed to promote the health and wellness of children and their families. The services are for individuals up to 21 years of age who have or are at risk of developing a mental health diagnosis. Services are always free to clients, voluntary, family-driven, strength-based, and culturally competent, with location and scheduling tailored to each family’s needs. They also provide support for the families of individuals with mental and/ or behavioral health issues. Prevention & Family Support FCA’s prevention team provides critical services to at-risk children and families including a nursery co-op program,

alcohol and substance abuse and gun violence r e d u c t i o n program, and more, through collaboration, education, and advocacy. Residential Care FCA operates four residences that focus on quality care, seamless transitions and well-managed aftercare services for youth. Nassau Haven and Walkabout provide emergency shelter and longer term transitional housing for homeless, runaway and trafﬁcked youth. Two other residences support children and young adults with serious emotional disturbances or mental health issues. Senior & Adult Services FCA believes that every senior deserves to live with dignity, safety and independence. FCA helps more than 10,000 seniors a year with meal deliveries, caregiver support, home visits for companionship, elder abuse prevention and advocacy. The number of people who turn to FCA for help is growing and with it, the need for donations to close gaps in government funding. FCA’s programs and services are greatly enhanced by the involvement of others, whether through donations of time or money, and welcome the help of all Long Islanders to further its mission. Entertaining is a great way to show good will and friendship to others and to celebrate special occasions. Many people can successfully throw parties, but hosting a great party takes a little extra effort. By following some tips, hosts can ensure their next party is one to remember.

Stick To A Theme

Many party hosts ﬁnd that themes help in the planning. Themes make it easy to coordinate invitations, decor, food, and music. Guests also may enjoy dressing up according to the theme.

Start Making Lists

Make lists regarding which foods you plan to cook, what you need to buy, who you plan to invite, and any other details that are ﬂoating around in your head. Getting things on paper and checking off the list can help keep things moving.

Have A Seating Plan

Have ample seating available and consider assigning seats at formal affairs so guests can sit next to friends or like-minded fellow invitees.

Do As Much You Can In Advance

When hosting at home, spend the day prior to the party getting the house in order and making any food if the party will not be catered. If it will be catered, conﬁrm with the catering company the delivery time and ﬁrm up any other details. You’ll be far less frazzled if you space out your tasks than trying to squeeze them in a few hours before guests arrive.

Expect Early/Late Arrivals

Some people just aren’t punctual. Some may leave home too early and arrive well before the party starts, while others think “fashionably late” is showing up long after the party starts. Have some easy-to-grab snacks so that early and late guests can munch while you ﬁnish your tasks.

Stick To What You Know

A dinner party or other event may not be the best time to get creative. Lean on recipes you’ve made before and can guarantee correct timing and ﬂavor.

Spread Out Foods And Beverages

Guests tend to bottleneck around the goodies. Ensure mingling and avoid trafﬁc jams by having drinks and snacks in different locations. These are just a handful of ways hosts can throw memorable parties where everyone has a good time.

TERMS OF SALE Such tax liens shall be sold subject to any and all superior tax liens of sovereignties and other municipalities and to all claims of record which the County may have thereon and subject to the provisions of the Federal and State Soldier’s and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts. seven days. Customs and traditions from around the world were celebrated at Seaford Manor Elementary School from Jan. 10-14, which hosted International Week. The annual event gives children a chance to share their heritage with their peers and teachers. Students from kindergarten to fifth grade created culture-gram projects, with everyone selecting a country to spotlight based on his or her ancestry. They shared information about the country’s food, holidays,

language, traditions and some fun facts, along with a drawing of its flag. Guest speakers participated in video conferences with different classes throughout the week. There were approximately 20 presenters who represented countries including China, Czech Republic, Greece, Guatemala, India, Ireland, Italy, Czech Republic, Trinadad and Tobago. They shared stories and showed artifacts related to their country of origin. International Week

was also celebrated in special area classes. Art teacher Jamie LaSota used inspiration from her trip to an art village China three years ago to have third graders paint cherry blossom trees with ink and different size brushes. In physical education, students played Ver Ver Aras Lama, a game from Papua New Guinea in which students had to get three balls inside a hula hoop on the floor before the balls were stolen by opponents.

As the payment deadline approaches for the first half general tax collection of 2022, Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll has announced the continuation of contactless payment options while encouraging residents to utilize the readily available resources implemented through her office.
