Parents who want to encourage their children to volunteer may find their efforts at doing so are more convincing if they volunteer themselves. A 2013 study published in the Journal of Adolescence examined the effects that parents who volunteer and talk about volunteering have on children. Researchers found that the children of volunteers were 27 percent more likely to volunteer than children whose parents did not volunteer. WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA DAY - Dozens of PSEG Long Island employees recently participated in the nationwide Wreaths Across America Day at both Calverton National Cemetery and Long Island National Cemetery at Pinelawn. PSEG Long Island also donated 500 wreaths to the Calverton site for the group to use at this event in years to come. Every year on a Saturday before Christmas, PSEG Long Island employees join hundreds of other volunteers laying wreaths on military gravesites. This takes place at more than 2,500 locations across all 50 states and many U.S. territories, including Long Island’s two national cemeteries, and on working military vessels. This annual campaign honors fallen service members by laying wreaths at their gravesites for the holidays.

Notice is hereby given that commencing on February 20th, 2024, will sell at public on-line auction the tax liens on certain real estate, unless the owner, mortgagee, occupant of or any other party in interest in such real estate shall have paid to the County Treasurer by February 15th, 2024 the total amount of such unpaid taxes or assessments with the interest, penalties and other expenses and charges against the property. TERMS OF SALE Such tax liens shall be sold subject to any and all superior tax liens of sovereignties and other municipalities and to all claims of record which the County may have thereon and subject to the provisions of the Federal and State Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts. The Supervisor recognized Rallye BMW’s General Manager Matt Carlson, who is receiving a kidney donation from his daughter Stephanie, for their efforts in spreading the word about how simple it is to sign up to be an organ donor. “Thousands of people

die each year due to a lack of available organs for transplants. Everyone can help change this statistic by pledging organ donation through their New York State driver’s license or through other initiatives such as the New York Organ Donor Network,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Unfortunately, New York is at the bottom of the list as far as the number of people willing to be donors, and we have the opportunity to change that statistic. Working together, we can save the lives of family members, friends and neighbors who

are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and a second chance at life.” In New York State alone, nearly 8,500 people are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants, while 2,500 New Yorkers receive transplants each year. Sadly, about 500 New Yorkers die waiting for a life-saving transplant. One organ donor can save eight lives and heal 75 more through eye and tissue donation.
