Oyster Bay Town Councilman Louis Imbroto recently announced that Session 2 of the Town’s 2021 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program will begin on February 6th. This youth hockey program features hockey development, skill programs and a seasonend skills competition over the course of 10 weeks at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. The program is open to girls and boys ages 6-16. “Youngsters enrolled in
place at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage on: • Wednesday, January 20th from 5pm - 8pm (residents only); • Thursday, January 21st from 5pm – 8pm (residents only); • Sunday, January 24th from 8am – 12pm; and • Monday, January 25th from 5pm – 8pm. The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster. All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board certified Veterinarian. Angels of Long Island is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization ran by Debbie and Brittany, a mother and daughter duo. They turned a small Facebook group into a fast growing non-profit organization that helps countless Long Islanders in need. Their non-profit continued to grow so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience.” The mission of this non-profit is to assist and advocate for people in our Long Island community who are in need of assistance. Their goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live prosperous lives. They truly provide a wide range of services and goods to people in crisis, however anyone can come shop at their Patchogue store, which has recently expanded, located at 350-23 East Main Street. The store is proud to take many types of donations. They now accept bottle and can donations every Monday-Saturday from 9AM-3PM, where you can simply pull up curbside, pop your trunk and a team member will take the donations for you. All bottles and cans must be marked New York state deposit and no broken glass bottles are able to be accepted. Please remember to separate glass items from plastic items before you donate them. Pickups at your residence are available for large quantities of recyclables. Additionally, they accept other donations, such as new or gently used clothing, housewares, home decor and
furniture. All proceeds from this store go directly to help Long Island residents in need. If you have some free time on your hands and are comfortable volunteering at the store, please contact Debbie at 631.205.3458. During this pandemic, Angels of Long Island is short staffed and looking for help. Their store is cleaned every morning and masks are required there. Please only consider volunteering if you are not showing any covid symptoms. Everyone’s safety is their first priority. Lastly, every Saturday until further notice, Angels of Long Island will team up with Carroll’s Kitchen, another Long Island based non-profit. Together they will be handing out gourmet to-go meals for free to anyone who stops by the Angels’ Patchogue store when the meals are available (please visit the Angels of Long Island Facebook page for meal arrival updates). Anyone is welcome to come and let a team member know how many dinners you need. The meals are distributed via curbside pickup. “So many people are out of work,” says Debbie. “If we can help their budget a ltitle by providing a meal for their family, it thrills me!” I personally would like to thank both nonprofit organizations for making a difference on our island, touching the hearts of those in need and having a smile on your faces while doing so! “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17

Buyers are not staying home watching football on these cold January 2021 days. In fact, Buyers never stopped looking during the holidays and are continuing to attend Open Houses to purchase a home. I had an Open House Jan 3 and 21 families waited patiently while social distancing to see the home. An offer was emailed to me before the end of the Open House. Two additional offers came in that day. I verified all information provided with each prospective Buyer’s lender. I presented all offers to the Sellers. They chose the Buyers that they believe are most financially qualified and could move within the Sellers timeframe.The moral of the story is have your credit in good shape, get preapproved and find the right realtor to work with you. Don’t waste your time, so before looking at homes, view the pictures and video, if available, and look on a map to see where the home is located. If you can, drive by to see if the home is on a high traffic street or a passive steet where only those living on the street are driving by. Know your most important criteria. With your agent, do your home work including verification of the taxes, prior to seeing the home.

Two Virtual Boating Safety Seminars Offered This Winter

AMERICAS BOATING CLUB of the GREAT SOUTH BAY POWER SQUADRON is proud to offer the public two virtual boating safety seminars this winter – “Mariner’s Compass,” on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 and “Introduction to Navigation,” on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Both seminars are from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Even in the electronics age, a compass is essential for safe boating. In the “Mariner’s Compass” seminar, Learn how to select and install a compass on your boat, which features are most important and what will work best for you, how to deal with variation between true and magnetic north, and how to adjust your compass to remove most of the deviation caused by local magnetic influences. This
is an essential seminar for all boaters. The “Introduction to Navigation” seminar will introduce you to using nautical charts to determine safe routes, creating waypoints in your chart plotter and other GPS devices, and basic electronic navigation and planning. This seminar is a great foundation for advanced courses that teach piloting and celestial navigation skills. Pre-registration is required for both seminars, with a supply and registration fee of $33.00 for the “Mariner’s Compass” Seminar and $30.00 for the “Introduction to Navigation” seminar. Town Accepting New Applications for 9/11 Walls of Honor Memorial Honors Victims of 9/11 Illness
Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently announced that applications are now available for families to add the names of loved ones to the Town of Oyster Bay’s 9/11 Walls of Honor which recognize all those with a connection to the Town who gave their lives and succumbed in their battle against 9/11 related cancers and illness. Each September, the Town unveils newly inscribed names into the Walls of Honor which recognize the family members, friends and neighbors lost to this toxic legacy. Supervisor Saladino stated, “We remember and give thanks to those who ran into danger in order to help the victims of a cowardly act of terror. This includes first responders, downtown workers,
residents, students and so many others with cancer certified to be 9/11-related. The events of 9/11 continue to take our heroes and survivors – and members of our community will continue to face darker days ahead. We watch each week as more of these heroes pass, in an everincreasing and unending number. Just as many of these rescue and recovery heroes raced to the Towers the first minute the plane hit, and stayed until the last brick was turned, their memorial stands with and lead us to those we lost that tragic Tuesday morning.” Reports from the World Trade Center Health program indicate that we are approaching a terrible milestone, in which approximately 43,000 people are being treated for medical problems and
10,000 people have suffered cancers linked to the toxic exposure at Ground Zero. More than 2,500 responders and others affected have succumbed to their illness. The 9/11 Walls of Honor were constructed under an initiative led by Supervisor Saladino, the Town Board and a volunteer committee that includes retired FDNY EMS Lieutenant Bill Gleason, Retired NYPD Detective Tom Luberto, Deacon Dave White, Jericho Fire Commissioner Frank Sammartano, North Massapequa Fire Commissioner Ralph Raymond, Massapequa Fire Commissioner Justin McCaffrey and Rescue & Recovery Worker Joseph Pinto. The Safe Center LI, which is located in Bethpage, provides a fast and easy path to resources that assist in saving and changing the lives of the victims of domestic or dating abuse, child abuse, and rape and sexual assault. “The Town is proud to partner with The Safe Center for this important initiative, and we are dedicated to addressing the needs of children atrisk of or victims of human

Saladino Illuminates Town Hall for Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Buddies Club, which pairs general education and special education students, and hopes to be a leader in organization in the future. Taylor DiFondi was a winner of the Lions Club Award in eighth grade for her work with a peer tutoring program which not only provided academic help to other students but also assisted with organizational skills. Last year she was a captain of the junior varsity cheerleading squad and was a captain of her middle school softball team. Billy was a captain on his middle school football, basketball and wrestling teams and treasurer of the National Junior Honor Society. After suffering an elbow injury before his freshmen year, he still joined his junior varsity football and basketball teammates on the sidelines to provide encouragement. He is also involved in Best Buddies and Key Club. In her freshman
year, Taylor Purcell was involved in several service events with the Key Club including making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the less fortunate and participating in a cleanup of the Tackapausha Preserve and a breast cancer awareness walk. She has also played volleyball and lacrosse since seventh grade. Students attend the HOBY conference at the end of sophomore year, because it is as juniors and seniors that they take on expanded leadership roles. The four students say they plan to take what they learn in June and share that knowledge with others, because there are so many leadership opportunities at Seaford High School within clubs, sports and student government. “That’s how you live your life, you learn it, you do it and you hand it down so other people can do things with your knowledge,” Will said,
adding that he recognizes he was chosen for a reason and wants to deliver on those expectations. Billy said that he hopes to be the same role model that older students were for him and hopefully lead projects that will make a positive difference at the school. Taylor DiFondi explained that she has always been inspired how those in the grades above her have made a great impact through their leadership responsibilities. “It’s a great honor to be picked for HOBY,” she said.
“I am determined to be a great leader. I won’t let my fellow students down.” Taylor Purcell said she is looking to connect with up-and-coming student leaders from all over the region and hopefully get some ideas she can bring back to Seaford High School. She is thankful for the opportunity and honored that teachers and other students see her leadership potential. The four students have already been tasked with a leadership role as they, along with past HOBY
attendees, comprise a committee to plan virtual events to make the 95 fulltime distance learning students feel more connected to the school. Assistant Principal Nicole Schnabel said that this is a student-led committee and they have already come up with some ideas including a virtual escape room team-building event and a Flashback Friday featuring elementary and middle school teachers.
