Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto recently announced that residents who regularly receive recycling/yard waste collection in the Town of Oyster Bay may dispose of their Christmas tree on regular recycling/yard waste days, ending Friday, January 15th. “We all love the beauty of Christmas lights and trees during the holiday season. After the celebrations are over, it is important to discard the tree in a timely manner as Christmas trees can pose as a fire hazard, especially after drying out,” said Councilman Imbroto. “Proper and prompt disposal of a dried out tree is very important, and you can dispose of your tree at the next scheduled yard waste collection day.” For questions, call (516) 677-5848.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Lou Imbroto and Town Clerk Richard LaMarca recently joined with The Nature Conservancy, Pew Charitable Trusts, and Friends of the Bay to provide an early holiday gift to Mother Nature as 50,000+ surplus commercially-grown oysters were entered into the harbor. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shuttering of local restaurants for long periods of time, commercial oyster growers have been faced with a larger than normal surplus of mature oysters. Rather than discard these perfectly healthy bivalves, they will be placed in protected areas of Oyster Bay Harbor, where they will help naturally clean and filter local waterways while spawning additional shellfish to help build back the depleted Oyster

population. “Rather than land on dinner plates, these oysters are headed into the harbor due to the lack of demand at local restaurants during this public health pandemic,” said Supervisor Saladino. “By placing these oysters in protected areas of the harbor, we strengthen the resiliency of our waterways and boost shellfish reproduction. These oysters will also help to naturally absorb wave action for shoreline stabilization while cleaning and filtering local waterways and spawning additional shellfish to help build back the depleted the oyster population.” This project partners the Town with the Pew Charitable Trust and the Nature Conservancy as part of their Supporting Oyster Aquaculture and Restoration (SOAR) Project. Under this initiative, more than 100

shellfish companies will be supported during these tough times, and over 200 critical shellfish farming jobs will be preserved across the country, all while simultaneously planting over 5 million oysters across 7 states! In addition to all the environmental benefits, commercial growers will also be reaping the economic benefits of this partnership during a time where most people and businesses have been struggling, with sales decimated within the last 9 months due to the global pandemic. Councilman Imbroto added, “Protecting our natural assets is critically important for the Town, and by restoring our shellfish populations, we ensure that we are working to keep our waters clean. Quite simply, there is no Oyster Bay without oysters!”

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Louis Imbroto recently announced that Session 2 of the Town’s 2021 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program will begin on February 6th. This youth hockey program features hockey development, skill programs and a seasonend skills competition over the course of 10 weeks at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. The program is open to girls and boys ages 6-16. “Youngsters enrolled in the Town’s Youth Ice Hockey program are given the great opportunity to improve their skating and hockey skills as part of a program that has earned recognition by the National Hockey League for its high level of quality,” said Councilman Imbroto. “The Town of Oyster Bay’s Youth Ice Hockey Program is among the best around,

with a dedicated coaching staff ready to teach this sport to the many boys and girls enrolled in our program.” Registration will take place at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage on: • Wednesday, January 20th from 5pm - 8pm (residents only); • Thursday, January 21st from 5pm – 8pm (residents only); • Sunday, January 24th from 8am – 12pm; and • Monday, January 25th from 5pm – 8pm. The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. Individuals interested in registering for the 2021 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check,

money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted. All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration. The program is held on Sunday mornings, and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The registration fee is $150 for 10 weekly sessions. All participants must provide their own equipment, and should have some skating ability. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500 donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Prior to the pandemic, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations, but nearly all high schools, colleges, offices and other community groups have had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19. Blood donors can now make appointments to visit donor centers, but donations are at just 65% of pre-pandemic levels well below what is needed by hospitals and patients in our area. “The entire foundation

of the way people donate blood has changed. The convenience factor of walking down the hallway while at work, getting out of class or donating after religious services is gone. Instead, we have to rely on people taking the extra step of proactively seeking out a place to donate. So far, that isn’t happening at the level we need,” said Andrea H. Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director of Recruitment & Marketing for New York Blood Center. “In normal times, announcing a blood emergency would create a short-term increase in blood donations, but this will not solve this particularly difficult shortage long-term. This is an incredibly challenging time for our communities.”

Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Michele Johnson announced that the Town will begin accepting credit card payments at its Planning and Development Department. Credit card payments, including American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa, will be accepted for all Departmental fees pertaining to building permit applications, building permits (including Same Day permits), electrical and plumbing licensing, multiple residence and public assembly licenses, surveys and document reproductions and Zoning Board of Appeals fees. “Once the economy began to reopen from State-mandated closures, the Town Board and

The organization has provided personal protective equipment and other forms of relief and support, such as lunch meals, for medical staff and frontline workers across Long Island since its founding in March.

The campaign is a tribute to “Rosie The Riveter,” the cultural icon representing women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II.

Pickups at your residence are available for large quantities of recyclables. Additionally, they accept other donations, such as new or gently used clothing, housewares, home decor and furniture. All proceeds from this store go directly to help Long Island residents in need. Angels of Long Island is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that somewhat formed itself back in 2015. Debbie and Brittany, a mother and daughter duo turned a small Facebook group into a fast growing nonprofit organization that helps countless Long Islanders in need. Six years ago these two ladies knew of someone in need of clothing and simply wanted to see if they could be of help. They decided to start a Facebook group in hopes of spreading the word and receiving donations for this person in need. They posted a message and went on with their day, later checking in to find themselves overwhelmed with the response. Whoever doubts that there aren’t people with good hearts that are willing to help a neighbor in need is wrong, fortunately! Debbie and Brittany named the Facebook group Angels of Long Island and members would post about ways they could help others in crisis on Long Island. The group continued to gain in momentum and members, so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience. I did not expect to be running a thriving non-profit organization that has a storefront on Long Island and helps so many in need when I made that Facebook group years ago. What has come since that group was formed is truly a miracle.”

patch and anti-virus software are updated regularly. criminal underground where identities are bought and sold and instantly alerts you if your Social Security number or up to 10 credit card or debit card numbers are posted by thieves.
