Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) is partnering with the Nassau County Department of Assessment to bring the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) to the Farmingdale Public Library on Monday, Nov. 9, and the Hicksville Public Library (in partnership with Legis. Viviana L. Russell) on Thursday, Nov. 12. During HELP events, Department of Assessment staff provide homeowners with individual assistance with completing and filing applications for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability exemptions. Enhanced STAR applications will also be processed for

homeowners already enrolled in the STAR program prior to Jan. 2, 2015. All HELP sessions are from noon to 2 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event, and to bring copies of their 2025 federal and state income tax returns and other required documentation for completing the application. “Nassau County residents deserve every opportunity to lower their taxes and reduce their cost of living, and the HELP program is an outstanding opportunity to receive personalized assistance and file your applications in one convenient visit,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “Whether you are filing for the first time or renewing, I

Acompora Memorial Foundation held a dedication ceremony at the Howitt Middle School Athletic Complex to unveil a new 24-hour outdoor SAVE Station. The station houses a temperature-controlled automated external defibrillator (AED) on the exterior of Howitt Middle School, ensuring immediate protection in cardiac emergencies for students, staff, and community members. Funded through a grant from the foundation and the SAVE Station corporation, the unit extends lifesaving access beyond standard school hours for athletic events and

local programs. The Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation was created following the tragic death of 14-year-old Louis Acompora from sudden cardiac arrest during a high school lacrosse game in 2000, driving its ongoing mission to place accessible AEDs in public spaces. “Karen, your tireless work with the foundation has saved countless lives, turning profound personal tragedy into a lasting shield for so many families,” said Director of Athletics Don Herr. “On behalf of the entire district, we express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering dedication.’ “Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time,” said Foundation President Karen

Farmingdale will celebrate Halloween with its annual Halloween Parade and Family Fun on the Green on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 1 p.m. The event will feature an afternoon of festive activities for children and families throughout the village. The Halloween parade will travel down Main Street

before festivities continue on the Village Green, where families can enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, and costume contests. This year’s celebration will also feature the first annual Trunk or Treat, presented in partnership with Coldwell Banker American Homes. The event will offer families an opportunity to enjoy

Halloween fun and collect treats in a festive community setting. Trunk or Treat and the other festivities will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and families are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes and join the community for an afternoon of seasonal fun.

Long Island Hiking Trails Great For The Fall Cold Spring Harbor State Park, Cold Spring Harbor Cold Spring Harbor State Park is located within Cold Spring Harbor Village. The hiking trails are perfect for beginners and moderate hikers. Pets are welcome! The park is at 95 Harbor Rd, Cold Spring Harbor. Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale Bethpage State Park is on the border of Nassau and Suffolk County. Bethpage State Park is most known for golf and has hosted several national championships. There are many trails of varying lengths, perfect for leisurely hikes or biking. The park is at 99 Quaker Meeting House Road in Farmingdale.

Sands Point Sands Point Preserve is filled with local history and scenic vistas. Sands Point Preserve has several different areas available for hiking. This includes a mile-long beach as well as forays into the woods. Sands Point Preserve is at 127 Middle Neck Road in Sands Point. Hempstead Lake State Park, West Hempstead

Hempstead Lake State Park is a great destination for hikers. The area’s natural beauty and relaxed trails make it a perfect spot for waterside hiking. The Hempstead Lake trail brings you throughout much of the park, around the central Hempstead Lake, Nassau County’s largest lake. Sands Point Preserve, Hempstead Lake State

Park is located at Eagle Ave. in West Hempstead. Sunken Meadow State Park, King’s Park Sunken Meadow State Park is one of Long Island’s most wellknown hiking and beach spots. The three-mile waterfront is a beloved hiking area both for its views as well as the variety of the nearby terrain. Connected to the Long Island Sound with views of Connecticut. The most popular trail will take hikers nearly four miles through the local wildlife. Sunken Meadow State Park is located at New York State Reference Rte 908K, Kings Park.
