CUTTING CEREMONY

PERLITA'S

JUICE BAR

On Wednesday, November 19th, the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce, together with the Town of Babylon, welcomed Perlita's Juice Bar, located at 306 35th St. in Lindenhurst, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Town and Village officials and LCOC President-Elect Marie Seaquist, LCOC President Emeritus JoAnn Boettcher, Chamber Members, and Suffolk County Legislature representatives gathered to congratulate their newest community business.

The new Good Samaritan University Hospital is coming. And our South Shore community is about to get a whole lot better.

Girl Scouts Of Suffolk County Host 2025 Holiday Lights Show

The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County (GSSC) will host its annual Holiday Light Show, which returns to Camp Edey in Bayport for an expanded, magical walk-through experience, Thursdays through Sundays from November 28 to December 21, 2025. The winter wonderland will open with a celebratory countdown before the first night of the show on November 28 @ 5 pm. Camp Edey is located at 1500 Lakeview Ave., Bayport, NY 11705.

Launched more than 20 years ago, the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County Holiday Light Show has grown into a Long Island tradition — transforming the scenic grounds of Camp Edey into an “Enchanted Forest” of lights.

The highlight of the show will be “Girl Scout Way,” an area where the five winning creations from the 2025 Girl Scouts Holiday Light Design Contest will be on display. Each design was drawn by a

Girl Scout and then custombuilt by the groundkeepers at Camp Edey in creations spanning six to twelve feet tall.

The 2025 Girl Scouts Holiday Light Design Contest winners are:

• Penelope Alambra, Smithtown, Troop 358, Brownie

• Amani Bradley-Coleman, Sienna Lebron, Teresa Cortez, Natalia Ciborowski, Kaylee Jimenez, Kiera GreenWilson, Maggie Ericson, Bomi Oyewo, Hanmi Oyewo, Lindenhurst, Troop 506, Multi-Level

• Ciara Weisbecker, Babylon, SU 14 (Juliette), Senior

• Olivia Castelli, Patchogue, Troop 1400, Cadette

• Sadie Ciesinski, Melville, Troop 103, Junior

“This event is a beautiful example of how Girl Scouts combine imagination, leadership, and community

spirit to shine light— literally and figuratively— on the holiday season,” said Tammy Severino, President & CEO of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. “We are proud to showcase these designs and give visitors a chance to see the girls’ ideas brought to life in lights.”

Among the special features at this year’s Holiday Lights Show:

• A new “Cozy Bungalow Package” with admission for up to five guests in a private winter-themed bungalow plus food vouchers, offered at a special rate. Themes include Nordic Nest (Scandinavian, rustic, snowy lodge), Holly Jolly Hut (traditional red and green Christmas décor), Gumdrop Cottage (candycolored fun straight from a storybook and gingerbread-inspired décor), and Starlight Shack (twinkle lights and a starry winter’s

night with touches of snowflakes).

• The “Chill Zone” returns, with lawn games, fire-pit warmth, and hot-cocoa treats courtesy of First-Class Food Trucks.

• Visits with Santa Claus! The event is open to the public, and ticket prices start at $12.50. Tickets and Cozy Bungalow reservations must be purchased in advance on the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County website:

http://www.gssclightshow. org.

Every ticket purchased supports leadership programs, summer camp experiences, and financial assistance for girls throughout Suffolk County.

Village Resident Robert Fantel Recognized As A 2025 “Man Of Distinction”

The Village of Lindenhurst is proud to celebrate resident Robert Fantel, who was recently recognized by New York State Assemblyman Kwani B. O’Pharrow as a 2025

“Men of Distinction” award recipient. The honor highlights individuals whose leadership, service, and personal example elevate their communities. Fantel has long been

regarded as a cornerstone of his coastal neighborhood, demonstrating commitment, compassion, and courage, especially in times of crisis. During community-impacting

floods, he is often the first to alert authorities, assist neighbors, and coordinate relief. In the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, he became a voluntary force of recovery—clearing debris, rebuilding homes, providing steady guidance to disoriented residents, and offering comfort to those struggling emotionally.

Fantel has made significant contributions to Lindenhurst’s youth— coaching Little League, building children’s skills, and inspiring confidence. Furthermore, during the COVID-19 lockdown, he tapped into his creativity to produce original music, songs, and videos, helping uplift and connect the community during an isolating time.

Fantel’s professional achievements reflect the same level of excellence and dedication. He previously

served as Assistant Officer in Charge at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Farmingdale, and his exceptional service led Major General Patrick A. Murphy to promote him to Francis S. Gabreski

Air National Guard Base (ANGB) 106th Rescue Wing as NYS Facilities Maintenance Supervisor 4—the highest facilities

maintenance position at the state level.

Mayor Michael Lavorata praised Fantel’s example, stating, “Robert Fantel represents the very best of Lindenhurst. We are fortunate to have individuals like Robert who step up, lead with heart, and make this community stronger every single day.”

Pictured here (left to right) are: NYS Assemblyman Kwani B. O’Pharrow, Trustee Douglas Madlon, Honoree Robert Fantel, and Mayor Michael Lavorata.

Knights of Columbus Host Fourth Annual First Responder Fundraiser

The OLPH Knights of Columbus Council 794 recently held their 4th Annual First Responder Fundraiser, honoring the men and women who serve and protect our communities.

This year’s event featured Honorary Chairman and Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature, Kevin McCaffrey, along with Grand Knight Patrick Corcoran, in support of the Suffolk County Police Foundation, headed by Louis Tutone.

The Anthem Corner event brought together leaders from across all levels of government,

including Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, as well as representatives from law enforcement, fire, and emergency services. Their attendance reflected the shared commitment to community partnership, service, and appreciation for those who keep our neighborhoods safe.

The fundraiser was once again graciously hosted by Dave Crowe and Robert Fortier, owners of the Belfast Gastropub in the Village of Lindenhurst. For four consecutive years, Belfast has opened its doors to this charitable cause, providing not just a venue, but a welcoming community atmosphere

that embodies the spirit of Lindenhurst.

Organizers expressed heartfelt thanks to all attendees, sponsors, and supporters for their continued generosity and engagement. “Each year, this event grows stronger,” said Grand Knight Corcoran. “It’s a testament to the unity and goodwill that define our village and the men and women who serve it.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Suffolk County Police Foundation, supporting programs that strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community.

How To Participate In Giving Tuesday

The excitement of the holiday season is palpable. Many people look forward to this time of year so they can deck their homes in lights and find gifts that will delight friends and family.

The spirit of giving that pervades the holiday season extends to Giving Tuesday, which comes on the heels of the busiest shopping days of the year. According to the Giving Tuesday website, Giving Tuesday is a movement that “reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity.”

Organizers feel that generosity is the avenue through which humanity can collectively strengthen its social fabric. Those who would like to harness the spirit of charitable giving can explore these ways to give back.

The tenth annual Giving Tuesday is on Tuesday December 2, 2025.

Get involved where it started

Giving Tuesday started with a team from the Belfer Center for Innovative &

Social Impact in New York City. In November 2012, these individuals implored nonprofits, influencers, and businesses to inspire others to get involved with acts of giving. The organization has many initiatives that people can support in addition to the original Giving Tuesday. Learn more at www.92ny. org/belfer-center.

Plant

a community garden

Food insecurity is a problem in many neighborhoods across the country. Petition local city councils for a portion of green spaces to devote to a community garden to grow produce for those who may need it. Doing so can foster a sense of camaraderie in communities.

Start

a

caremongering movement

Caremongering began as a community-led social movement to address health and social needs during the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. Caremongering is designed to help vulnerable people and can include anything from grocery shopping

for those with mobility issues to virtually or physically socializing with others to combat social isolation. Those who want to caremonger can do many other things, like run emergency errands or help with childcare.

Donate goods and supplies

Areas of the southern United States experienced extreme devastation with the one-two punch of hurricanes Helene and Milton in early October. Natural disasters can displace families and push individuals to the brink as supplies become scarce. It is likely recovery efforts in areas wiped out by these storms will take months, underscoring the importance of continued support via donations and volunteer efforts.

Getting involved in Giving Tuesday is easier than one may imagine. Let this day sow the seeds of generosity for the entire year.

The National Football League (NFL) was formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA). The firstever NFL game was played at Triangle Park in Dayton, Ohio, on October 3, 1920. In that contest, the hometown Dayton Triangles defeated the Columbus Panhandles 14-0. Though the Dayton Triangles were eventually purchased by a Brooklynbased syndicate and relocated to New York as a result of that transaction, the team’s status as the host of the first NFL game continues to pay dividends for residents of the southwestern Ohio city where the franchise ushered in the now wildly popular league. In recognition of the place the city of Dayton holds in NFL history, the NFL Foundation, in partnership with FieldTurf & Vasco, pledged to fund the installment of a new artificial turf at the city’s Kettering Park.
