Dear valued readers,

On November 17, 1953 the very first issue of the South Bay’s Neighbor - then known as South Bay’s Official Shopping Newspaper - was published. Our company has evolved over time, yet has always remained privately and locally owned. We continue to stand by our commitment to delivering positive, hometown news, along with special features like reader contests and puzzles, and of course, advertisements from your favorite merchants.

Through both challenging and prosperous times, we’ve continued to publish every single week, always strongly believing in what we do. The wonderful feedback we consistently receive from our readers reminds us that the publication is valued and wanted.

In an age when information is available at our fingertips, the simplicity of a printed publication filled with trusted, upli ing stories is truly unmatched. There’s something special about turning the pages of a physical paper and reading about the people and events that shape our local community. We’re deeply grateful for your continued support, which has allowed us to keep doing what we do week a er week.

Over the years our company has expanded to also publish a monthly magazine, provide digital marketing services and offer a full range of printing solutions - helping businesses of all sizes create menus, post cards, flyers and more.

Keep an eye out for next week’s newspaper issue, themed for the holidays, featuring hosting tips, festive recipes and more. And don’t forget to shop small this Small Business Saturday - supporting the very businesses that serve as the backbone of our community.

Sincerely,

Broadcasting Class Premiers At Seaford High School

A group of Seaford High School students are learning how to be both informative and innovative in a new broadcasting class this year. The art elective, open to freshmen through seniors, allows them to explore the entire news gathering process from story idea to finished product.

Teacher Curtis Tripoli

first introduced students to the editing software, Adobe Premiere, by having them break down and put back together existing news packages and recording their own dialogue. They mastered the editing aspect so they could create their own original content. Students work in small groups to generate an idea, go around the school to film

and conduct interviews, and edit their footage.

Senior Aidan Haug said he enrolled in the class because he is interested in the editing process and enjoys creating content.

“I like the filming process and editing, especially cutting up a video package,” he said. “I’m learning a lot about how to organize news packages.”

Some of the stories students are working for the first show include the Drama Club’s new leadership and policies on cell phone and food in classrooms. The ultimate goal is to create a biweekly broadcast on their own YouTube channel. A broadcasting room is also in the works, but for now they are working in the digital art

room and have equipment such as microphones and Canon cameras available for field reporting.

use new technology while also enhancing important skills like writing, public speaking and teamwork.

Dr. Patrick Kennedy, coordinator of fine and applied arts, said development of the class began last year and he is thrilled to see it quickly become a success. The benefits are numerous as students learn how to

“A class like this provides new career opportunities for students to explore,” Dr. Kennedy said. “It’s projectbased, hands-on learning, and it’s a blend of different content areas. It’s a great cross-section of a lot of different skills.”

On Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, upwards of a thousand runners, walkers, and baby stroller pushers will be traversing the roads of Seaford! They will each be participating in Seaford’s famous Hot Chocolate 5K Run/Walk, which this year marks its 20th anniversary! The community event will start that day at 9:00 AM. The race will be conducted with the starting and finishing line in front of Seaford High School at 1575 Seamans Neck Road, Seaford.

Complete information about participating in the Run/Walk can be obtained directly from the Seaford Wellness Council website (www.seafordwellness. com). All participants receive a high-quality T-shirt with a uniquely designed event logo. Hot chocolate and bagels are served afterwards, and an awards ceremony and

extensive raffle are held post-race.

Mike DiSilvio, Council President, stated, “This event is a wonderful way to start the holiday season in Seaford. Every year, I see nothing but smiling and happy faces from the folks who participate in the Run/ Walk.”

The two Honorary CoStarters were chosen, as is tradition, from both the general community and from the Seaford Chamber of Commerce’s designated Businesspeople of the Year.

John Scaparro is this year’s community representative.

Scaparro is a retired NYPD Detective Sergeant. Scaparro is the President of the Board of Trustees of the Seaford Public Library and the President of the Board of Trustees of the Nassau Library System. Scaparro is also active with the Seaford Knights of Columbus Memorare Council and is a

Past Grand Knight, former Financial Secretary, and served on the Board of Directors of the Memorare  Caterers. Margaret Grub was recently honored jointly by the Seaford Chamber of Commerce and the Nassau County Chambers of Commerce as the Seaford Businessperson of the Year. She currently serves as the President of the Seaford Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Seaford Public Library Board of Directors, holding the position of Secretary. Grub is a real estate salesperson for Century 21 AA after having retired as an Assistant Principal from the New York City Board of Education. Ken Nersesian, Council Vice President, commented that “The Council is extremely proud to name John Scaparro and Margaret Grub as 2025 Honorary Co-Starters. They are both perfect examples

of the caring community spirit of Seaford.”

Proceeds from this year’s event have been designated to support the Seaford Public Library’s Summer 2026 Children’s Reading Program. The Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and those individuals who may wish to donate to the Run/Walk can do so very conveniently

through the Council’s website. Council Treasurer

Donna de la Bastide states, “The Run/Walk is the Council’s sole fundraiser. The varied projects that the Council is annually involved with benefit Seaford’s school children, our senior population, and the public library.

The Seaford Hot Chocolate 5K Run/Walk has been recognized in running circles as the third largest community-based 5K run/ walk on Long Island. It is anticipated that this year’s event will surpass the fun-filled experiences of previous years.

In addition, we organize general wellness programs and conduct beautification efforts throughout the hamlet.”

A parody play based on a well-known, fictitious wizard school is coming soon to the Seaford High School stage. The Drama Club will present “Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” Nov. 21-22.

The show features a total cast of 26 students and lead roles include Kathryn Malone as the narrator, Max DiMola as Wayne Hopkins, Olivia Ferrara as Megan Jones and Fin Kirrane as Oliver Rivers.

The story follows the Puffs, an ordinary group of students at the magic school who just want to make it through seven years of chaos.

“I’m looking forward to the audience seeing all the work we’ve put into this,” said Max, a ninth grader.

“I’m excited for people to enjoy a new spin on a classic story.”

Elyse Cruz is making her directing debut

with the Seaford drama program and is supported by producer Dr. Anthony Romeo, set designer Grant Weber, sound director Daniel Krueger, lighting director Frank O’Reilly and backstage manager Caroline Feryo.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to present ‘Puffs’ alongside such as talented and dedicated group of students,” Ms. Cruz said. “Their hard work, humor and creativity have made this experience truly unforgettable and will make the show a tremendous success.”

Show times are Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Seaford High School auditorium. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for Seaford faculty and staff. Children under 6 can also get into the Saturday matinee for $5. For tickets or additional information, call (516) 592-4337.
