he Hagedorn Little Village School, Jack Joel Center for Special Children, held its annual Sleepy Hollow 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, October 26th, at Brady Park in Massapequa Park. If Market Linked Broker CD’s are sold prior to the maturity date, they may be liquidated at a pre-maturity sales price which may be less than its original price. This will be particularly true if interest rates have risen since the original sale. The secondary market for Market Linked Broker CD’s may be limited. Market Linked Broker CD’s may include a provision that allows issuing banks or other depository institution to “call” or redeem the CD prior to maturity at a given price. These features are typically exercised when a brokered CD is trading at a premium to its call price in the secondary market, and is exercised solely at the discretion of the issuer. Market Linked Broker CD’s may employ a “step-rate” feature which may be below or above then-prevailing market rates. FDIC Insurance insures the CD holder for a total of $250,000 at the issuing financial institution. The $250,000 amount is a total, and not per product. Meaning, if the customer has other deposits at the bank and decides to invest $250,000 into a structured CD, the entire CD principal will not be federally insured and covered under FDIC.

Past Peak Well there it is. I hope you enjoyed autumn. Did you savor the glorious foliage on your drive to work? Did you pick enough apples and pumpkins to last you through your winter hibernation? Did you take in the requisite corn mazes and haunted houses and eat far too much Halloween candy in the process? Like it or not, once those leaves begin to brown and flutter to the ground en masse, autumn is officially past its peak. Forecasters are already beginning

to utter that dreaded four-letter word as the temperatures drop each evening. Heck, even some retailers seem to have hit fast forward, starting their “Black Friday” sales the day after Halloween this year. Um… did we miss something? As far as I’m concerned, “winter” is still a few weeks out. There’s still plenty of turkey and trimmings to be enjoyed, leaf piles to jump into and mum plants to admire. The shopping and decorating and wrapping and cooking can wait a bit. There will be plenty of time for all that over the next

month or so. And then… well, then it’s just plain old winter. Slow down. Savor. Repeat for next season. It’s not that difficult. Perhaps if everyone wasn’t in such a great rush, there would be more time to accomplish things. Mindset is everything. In the meantime, enjoy the cool, crisp autumn air as you rake your leaves and plan the Thanksgiving menu for next week. Be thankful we have four seasons to enjoy, and be thankful for all those whom you are blessed to share them with.

Field Of Honor

School District. Prior to Veterans Day, a special dedication ceremony was held to honor those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Local officials and veterans, as well as school administrators and students, were present to commemorate the event.

The Field of Honor included approximately 200 flags which will be on display through the beginning of December. Proceeds benefit local veterans of the community who are in need of support.

8th Graders from Grace Day School in Massapequa, participated in a Veterans’ Day Service for local servicemen in honor of this year’s upcoming Veterans’ Day. The students conducted a chapel service from beginning to end,

Adopt-A-Soldier The staff, residents and families of Island Nursing and Rehab Center collected food and other items to send to their new friends at the 106th Rescue Wing of Westhampton as part of the Adopt A Soldier program. The facility collected candy, gum, magazines,

stamps, sunflower seeds, beef jerky, crossword puzzles, energy bars and granola bars, as well as financial donations to cover the cost of shipping. The items were collected and delivered this week to the 106th Rescue Wing so they could be mailed by the base to soldiers at a

location that cannot be revealed due to security reasons. In addition to the goodies, residents of the facility wrote letters to the soldiers, praising them for their work, saluting them, and offering them words of encouragement, comfort and gratitude. The 106th Rescue

Wing deploys worldwide to provide combat search and rescue coverage for US and Allied forces. They are a world-class team of diverse, adaptable personnel recoveryfocused war fighters. Island Nursing and Rehab Center, located at 5537 Expressway Drive North in Holtsville, is

With over 30 tables of local vendors, including a sampling of local restaurants and beverage merchants, shoppers will experience a real Holiday delight! The day will be overflowing with kid’s activities, entertainment, fabulous raffles and a grand prize TV & BluRay giveaway. Santa will be there for pictures, and swag bags will be handed out to the first 250 people through the door. Massapequa Business Network is proud to be working with Island Harvest to collect nonperishable foods for one of the charity’s final food drives. The Massapequa Business Network will also donate all proceeds from the Chinese raffles to Island Harvest in a special check presentation, date to be determined. President Robin Hepworth, who is also a local photographer, has provided a formula and has a proven track record for local business networking. She is aided by a team of hard working volunteers, Lisa Mener, Chere Urgo, Marilyn Rich and Tracy Koenig. Together, these local businesswomen are setting a standard for teamwork, volunteerism and professionalism, adding to the growth and support of local businesses in the Massapequas and the surrounding area.

The Massapequa Business Network launched the 2014 Fall/ Holiday season with a

community were treated to delicious and fun-filled excitement on October 29th. The Massapequa Business Network partnered with its member, Dairy Queen of Massapequa, to offer the community an exciting afternoon of Halloween fun for local children. The event ran for two hours and was held in Dairy Queen’s Grill and Chill fireplace room. Each child was given delightful goodie bags, enjoyed free Face Painting by Athena, a wonderful magic show by John Lepre and a Halloween dance party provided by Dance Parties to Go. Dairy Queen generously donated a free Dilly bar or complimentary cone to each child. Two hundred local families were in attendance, and the spooky afternoon was a tremendous success. The community Dairy Queen event was followed up by a Halloween Costume Party for the Massapequa Business Network Members, hosted by Zona. Forty five business members representing a myriad of local businesses showed up in costume for the evening’s events. Not only was the food delicious, but Zona’s staff was amazing! Zona distinquished itself as a premier location for events, small conferences and personal parties. The Massapequa Networking Group will be hosting its second annual Holiday Shopping Spectacular on Sunday, November 23rd, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seaford
