RAISING FUNDS - Sienna Perino, age 7, and her family raised over $21,000 for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) toward research for a cure of Type 1 Diabetes, an auto-immune disease which she has had for nearly three years now. The JDRF One Walk was held this past Sunday at Eisenhower Park, where over 5,500 people walked to raise awareness and raise funds for a cure.

The perfect dress. Is there even such a thing? Perhaps. It’s just that, when pressed for time, the search becomes seemingly more futile by the day. Store after store, scanning the racks for something – anything – that stands out and screams you... I suppose I’m atypical in the sense that I’m part of a rare breed of girl that doesn’t enjoy shopping; that is, not when I need something specific, anyway. Send me on a random shopping spree with all the time in the world, and I have no problem dropping several hundred dollars in a matter of hours. But give me an occasion, a short window of time to find something appropriate and,

well, let’s just say that window closes most of the way before I can motivate myself to venture out. Couple that with my deep aversion to being forced to navigate an entire mall, that endless, sprawling layout of department stores and dress shops, and my options become increasingly limited. More often than not, I find myself on the complete opposite side from where I need to be, standing in front of one of the gigantic maps, vainly trying to ascertain the quickest route to my destination. Once in the store, there’s the matter of locating which floor the department you’re seeking is on, which, oddly enough, some employees don’t even seem to have a handle on. So

Massapequa High School’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department, in conjunction with its Child Study course, will once again sponsor a Preschool Program for district residents. High School students enrolled in the Child Study course have successfully completed the Parenting and Child Development course and are now ready for a hands-on approach to learning. The students will plan, prepare, and implement interdisciplinary activities within a thematic unit for the preschool students. Preschool will begin around March 12th, 2015 and continue for approximately 11 weeks, to “graduation.” There are two sessions – Tuesdays and Thursdays or Wednesdays and Fridays, each from 9:55 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children must attend

both days of the session chosen. A donation of $60 per child to help defray expenses is encouraged.
