Linder Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities. The Walk, now in its 12th year, will take place on Saturday, September 21st, at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa. “Autism can present itself in a wide range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences,” Supervisor Saladino stated. “It is estimated that the condition effects 1 in every 68 people in the United

Jackie works at Walmart and would walk to work and assist residents at her local nursing home while she wasn’t working. Her friends wanted to make it easier for her to get around. After the wish was received, James Ciervo and Barbara Ransom of the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce helped get Jackie a beautiful bicycle. The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the foundation’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. This organization truly makes a difference in the lives of seniors nationwide. Often the elderly gets overlooked or they simply can’t seem to achieve their goals on their own. This is where Twilight Wish steps in. Although their headquarters are located in Pennsylvania, the foundation has chapters located around the nation. James Ciervo, who devoted much of his life to helping seniors, created their Long Island Chapter 15 years ago. His career was in the senior health care industry for many years and he continues to help seniors through the Twilight Wish Foundation today. The process of applying to be a wish recipient is fairly simple. You can visit their website at www.twilightwish.org and click on the “Wishes” tab followed by “Request A Twilight Wish”. From here you can start the process. Applications can be submitted for yourself or on behalf of someone else. The recipient of the wish must be 65 years of age or older (or a permanent resident of an eldercare facility), a legal US citizen, have an annual income of less than 200% of current federal government published poverty level income, or be unable to grant your own wish (not including financial reasons), have a history of giving back to others, be cognitively and physically capable of communicating and

Fall Cultural Enrichment Classes Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Department of Community and Youth Services, Cultural and Performing Arts Division (CAPA) will be once again offering exciting cultural enrichment programs for the fall 2019 season, and registration for all applications is now open. “I am pleased to announce that the Town’s Cultural Enrichment Program will return once again this fall, as these enrichment programs offer residents the opportunity to develop a new skill while having fun in the process,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Whether you’re an emerging artist or writer looking to sharpen your skills or a resident looking for a new hobby, these classes offer a wonderful opportunity to broaden your horizons, and provide not only education but enjoyment as well.” All of the classes will be held at the SyossetWoodbury Community Center, located at 7800 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, except for the Astrology and Meditation and Spiritual Awakening workshops, which will be held at North Massapequa Community Center, 214 N. Mr. McKillop greeted the incoming students on Sept. 6, the first day for all kindergarten students in the Massapequa School District, while reminding
their families that there are many years to enjoy before high school graduation. Many kindergartners arrived with their parents for first-day photos and one more hug before beginning school. Others came by bus, where they were greeted by teachers and students from the Safety Patrol to direct them to their classrooms,
