Unless you’re traveling to some remote Third World country, chances are you will be able to purchase anything that may have been left behind. It just may not be quite like the comforts of home that we’re used to, that’s all. By the time you read this, I will have (hopefully) figured out how to condense the mountain of “stuff” piled in the corner of my room into my suitcase and carry-on, preferably in a TSA-approved, somewhat convenient manner so as to not give myself a hernia when picking it up. One can only hope.

When did packing become such a source of stress? Used to be, you could throw whatever you wanted into a suitcase, head to the airport shortly before flight time, have your family see you off at the gate and be on your way. Not so much anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the added security. It just seems like, in an effort to make air travel safer for all, it has become extremely inconvenient for most. But, short of taking a transAtlantic cruise, it still serves as the quickest, most viable option to get where you want to go. So that leaves us to suck it up and deal with whatever

hassles come along with our “relaxing” vacations. Having never flown before, this process has proven to be quite complicated, what with all the new rules and regulations – carry-on vs. checked baggage, ounces of liquids, Ziploc bags, and on and on… I must say, this is one time when the wealth of information available on the Internet has proven to be pretty useful. Nothing like hearing tips from those who have been there and done that already. But still, at the end of the day, once all the criteria are comprehended, there is still the small matter of fitting everything into one suitcase, preferably one that weighs

The Councilman noted that all blood types are needed, especially O positive and O negative. The Town will provide refreshments for everyone who donates. Councilman Muscarella added that anyone requiring additional information should contact Nancy Haarstick at 516.624.6304. “And remember, there are many people out there hoping you are the type to give blood,” Councilman Muscarella said. “More important, you may also be the ‘right type’ for a patient waiting for the gift of life.” “I can think of few more important gifts a person can give than a pint of blood,” Supervisor Venditto stated. “And if you want to talk about making a difference, one pint of blood could be the difference between life and death for one or more recipients. Unfortunately, there is an almost constant critical need of blood in our area due to an increase in the number of medical procedures that require blood transfusions, coupled with the fact that the United States can no longer rely upon blood shipped in from Europe because of concerns about Mad Cow Disease and other diseases. More of us must start giving blood on a regular basis. Please help us make this blood drive a huge success. If you are not able to give, perhaps you know someone who can. Every person donating blood at the Town of Oyster Bay’s semi-annual blood drive slated for Thursday, August 1st, will have the opportunity to win two tickets to this year’s Super Bowl, according to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto. “Thanks to a great partnership that we enjoy with the New York Blood Center, all presenting donors at our blood drive will be entered into a sweepstakes for one pair of tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII slated for February 2nd, 2014 at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey,” Supervisor Venditto said. “All blood donors are heroes, but here is a rare chance for a lucky winner to see their football heroes in person at the Super Bowl.” Oyster Bay Town Councilman Joseph D. Muscarella said the unique promotion is part of the Town’s efforts to build the response to its summer blood drive. “With summer in full swing, our attention tends to focus on barbecues, going to the beach, taking a vacation and the other pleasures of the season, so donating blood is not generally on our minds,” said Councilman Muscarella, who has worked closely with Supervisor Venditto for many years on the Town’s blood drive. “The need for blood is continual, though, and the summer usually puts a strain on supplies. Donation drives, such as the ones sponsored by the Town, account for a large percentage of the blood collected by Long Island Blood Services.
