AQUARIUM VISIT - The third graders from Birch Lane Elementary School went on a class trip to the Long Island Aquarium recently. It was the perfect day to watch the sea lion show, walk in the water with the crabs, enjoy the penguins and see all the educational things that the aquarium has to offer. After the sea lion show had finished, some of the children posed for a photo with the almost 14 year-old 385-pound sea lion named Java and his trainer Genna. The Gift of Time By: Jamie Lynn Ryan Time. It’s the one thing we never seem to have quite enough of. There is always a deadline, a constant reminder of what we have yet to accomplish within a given period. From the moment we are born, there is a schedule to follow, a time frame to adhere to, expectations to be met – rarely a moment of peace. From classroom bell schedules and term paper due dates to newspaper and magazine press schedules, my life has pretty much been one giant revolving deadline from kindergarten on
up. And, while generally on time for such things, my reluctance to be a “morning person,” coupled with a (slightly) over-the-top sense of perfectionism, occasionally creates obstacles, self-imposed as they may be. Sometimes, you just need to take a collective deep breath and let things go. Choose your battles wisely; smile and accept the rest. It’s not giving up. It’s not even giving in. It’s simply making a conscious decision to rise above with an eye on the greater goal, whatever that may be. It’s not always easy. And
for those like me who tend to micromanage and overanalyze, it can be nearly impossible to let go and relinquish control of the day-today monotonies which, together, make up the great majority of life. But once you set the wheels in motion, it’s amazing how truly freeing it is. Simply live and let live. We can only control ourselves; not others, not our surroundings. The sooner we realize this and stop trying, the better. At the end of the day, you might even find you have more time to do the things you truly want to. Imagine that.

Fourth-grade students at Eastplain Elementary School in the Plainedge School District have immersed themselves into their unit on the American Revolution. Students have been reenacting the American Revolution through hands-on activities and
have taken on the rolls of colonists living through the events that happened in the 1700s. In addition, during the Lunch & Learn workshop students explored the art of quilt making using geometric shapes to understand what it was like for colonial women to make clothes

Memorial Day In Massapequa
The Massapequa American Legion Post #1066 and the Sgt. Peter F. Colleran Post #776, in cooperation with the Village, will conducted the annual Memorial Day Parade in the Massapequas. The parade began on Front Street and traveled north on Park Boulevard, west on Clark Boulevard and ended
at Klestinec Park. Congressman Peter King, (NY-R), joined Mayor Jeffrey Pravato, alongside village trustees Teresa Spinosa, Dan Pearl and other village representatives in the parade. Veterans, Firefighters, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts, all walked
to the music played by the marching band memorial service was held there to pay tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice in the defense of our nation. Events were followed by refreshments served by the American Legion on Veterans Boulevard.
