NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM - Pack 339 of St. David’s Church in Massapequa Park spent a Night at the Museum at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan. This was the first trip for this brand new Pack. The boys had a blast roaming the museum and visiting the different attractions, including exploring the dinosaur wing in the dark with flashlights. By: Jamie Lynn Ryan In all the hype over our dear Buddy the Betta’s first birthday last week, another momentous occasion got lost in the shuffle – my opportunity to attend an intimate Q&A with Billy Joel at my alma mater, C.W. Post. It was designed to give the students of the Long Island High School for the Arts an opportunity to learn from the master, one who happened to make a rather sizable donation to their school in an effort to keep it up and running for the next generation of promising performing artists. Of course, officially, I was “covering” this event in my capacity as a journalist; however, the opportunity

to be a part of such a small audience in front of one of my idols had its own unique appeal on a personal level – at the very institution where I obtained my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree over a decade ago. While not a full-fledged concert by any means, there was “a little music” to go along with the anecdotes, making for an afternoon of memories to last a lifetime. In the weeks since, I had occasion to peruse my college portfolio, where I came across an essay I had written on the hopes and aspirations I had for my career. “Countdown to Commencement,” it was called, covering everything from grad school to loans to the job search to that endless search for fulfillment.

As much as anyone thinks he/she has life all mapped out, it is nearly impossible to rely on a set blueprint. Because, every now and then, life itself beckons, with all its unanticipated twists and turns. Such was my sentiment in the Spring of 2004, and so it remains. If you had told me 12 years ago that I would be back in the Tilles Center theatre, as an editor and columnist, mere feet away from the likes of Billy Joel… well that would have fallen under the “unanticipated” category for sure. I can only imagine the thrill it was for those high school students, those with the world at their feet, endless opportunities stretched before them. Oh, to have that feeling once again…

A crowd of over 800 Long Islanders attended the 15th Annual Long Island Go Red For Women Luncheon on Wednesday, February 11th, 2016. The sea of red could be seen throughout all the rooms at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. This year’s honorees included Linda Ressa, Sales Manager, New Construction Specialist, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and Community Honoree-Premiere Cardiology. Those in attendance also heard from heart and stroke survivors Julie Lycksell, Robin Musmanno and Nancy Magrini-Cavallone.
