The 9th Annual Pink Rock Classic golf tournament will take place Monday, October 5th, at the Port Jefferson Country Club at Harbor Hills. The annual golf tournament benefits the Fund for Uninsured at the Fortunato Breast Health Center at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital. The Fund for Uninsured was established to provide access to state-of-the-art breast screenings and diagnostic procedures for patients without health insurance. Jean Larsen of Stony Brook, a breast cancer survivor who faced a huge personal debt from battling the disease, came up with the idea of the Pink Rock Classic to help others in a similar situation. Staff members throughout North Babylon School District gathered at North Babylon High School for the annual Superintendent’s Conference Day prior to the start of the 2015-2016 school year. The program, comprised of a series of professional development workshops and inspirational messages, was designed to reinforce the ideals of hard work, patience, perseverance, dedication and enthusiasm among teachers. The educators were praised for all that they do with their

crafts, and encouraged to continue challenging their students to reach new heights and follow their dreams. Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach introduced the district’s new teachers and spoke about the importance of all faculty members believing in their students. Eschbach presented a motivational video to complement his presentation, and said he is delighted to be at the helm of a district that offers so many opportunities to its students. “During my first two

months here, I have had the opportunity to meet several teachers and administrators, and to also look at programs and policies, and I have to say: there are a lot of great things going on here at North Babylon School District,” he said. “I know that our teachers and educators work tirelessly to help out students be the best they can possibly be. It’s been days, and still no sign of my human. No light on in the kitchen. No food pellet delivery at dinnertime. No – dare I say it – bath time. Nothing. Where did she go? Alone in my bowl, I swim my solitary laps, counting down the hours, days, weeks… it must be weeks by now. Just me and my plant (which, by the way, is starting to look pretty tasty at this point). I should’ve known something was up when I found a few extra ﬂakes in my bowl right after the last human sighting. And the suitcase… what was that for? Come to think of it, I heard something about “vacation,” whatever that

is, and then this giant bettashaped vitamin was placed in my bowl with promises of food coming shortly. When? It’s already been at least a month. Time tends to fast forward when you live in a bowl. But, wait… here it is – a ﬂake. And another. Where did they come from? No human in sight, but this little vitamin seems to be melting into food! Oh thank goodness! She didn’t forget about me after all. I wonder if she’ll ever be back? {826 Days Later…} I hear a noise! The front door… the light… MY HUMAN HAS RETURNED! Oh boy, oh boy! If I had longer fins, I’d give her the biggest hug ever! Oh, and here comes the good food,

The pain of losing a child is life changing. Many bereaved parents find solace in helping others through similar circumstances. After suffering the loss of her newborn, Michele Khan decided to give back to others whose babies are critically ill. In memory of her son, Dylan Joseph, who was born prematurely at Good Samaritan Hospital on January 6th, 2015, Michele decided to bring care packages to other moms staying at their babies’ bedsides in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The support and compassion from the NICU staff helped get her through her loss. Michele has made several visits to Good Samaritan with thoughtful gifts for patients in pediatrics and NICU. She is already planning her Christmas donation.

Some packed crayons and some packed laptops, but all students in the Babylon School District returned to school on September 2nd, reuniting with friends and sharing their summer stories. At Babylon Grade School Principal Steven Goldberg and Superintendent Linda Rozzi greeted students as they disembarked and welcomed them back. At Babylon Elementary School, first-graders learned where to unpack

their school supplies and worked on beginning of the year arts and craft projects, while second-graders got a chance to visit old teachers and find their new classrooms. Principal Jessica Kemler greeted the students outside the main entrance as they walked in to start the new year. It was the beginning of a new chapter for incoming seventh-graders at Babylon Junior-Senior High School, and the final first day of school for incoming
